Monday 21st was supposed to be a very special occasion for me and my family but it turned out I felt I was working for the hotel. I booked this hotel well in advance, maybe a month prior, a surprise for my partners family as they have never stayed in such 'luxury'. I booked the restaurant and organised for Champagne on arrival, there was no Champagne ready for us so I had to ask, it came after we ordered food... Wasn't to impressed about this and to make matters worse they tried to open the bottle in a classic way by Sabering it, this went terribly wrong and after more than 12 attempts they ended up decapitating the top off and a quarter of the bottle went over some other guests dining on a conference. Now I know it looks good but at least train your staff so they can make it look good. Now that bit was over the food by the way was amazing! The goose was cooked to perfection, really appreciate the food so thank you for that. The rooms are ok, beds a little uncomfortable and no tea and coffee facilities in a 4* hotel?? Strange... The bar after our food was brilliant, you don't need me to tell you they have an amazing micro brewery on site which provides beautiful beer! Service with a smile could be nice, working on a bar consists of communication, they lacked that. We sometimes felt a bit of an inconvenience to the bar and especially when they closed before 11:00pm! I manage a 4* hotel in the UK pushing for a 5 and you can not shut your bar at 11:00pm when residents are clearly spending money and enjoying them selves. really disappointing with the closing times. In the morning we checked out and I already pre paid the hotel as I don't like fussing about on check out and I didn't want any of the other party to worry about payment. The rude reception gentleman tried to tell me I didn't pay, this was embarrassing as other people were checking out also, I explained the situation and he said that's fine, so off we went to collect our car, then they tried to take payment twice so I went to the reception and asked whats going on, I then proved through emails and bank statements that payment had already gone out prior to this and now your changing me a second time? He didn't believe me and didn't have any right to charge my card a second time, my bank wasn't too impressed with a foreign country trying to charge a large amount. He then had to ring around his reservation team to try and confirm this payment had went through the week before even though I had two copies of proof... This is where attention to detail has lacked massively, and lack of communication between departments. If somebody is paying for a 4* service then you have to provide, just because you have had football teams and politicians staying with you it doesn't mean you don't provide for the less famous. Step your game up guys, you have the product there your just not using it right... Collapse

The hotel its self is nice, its well decorated, its clean with nice bathrooms and the breakfast has a good selection to chose from and the restaurant serves pretty good food, and is in a pretty good location. unfortunately we stayed in room 204, like I said everything else was ok but the noise was absolutely ridiculous, you could literally here every footstep from the room above every time they walked about there room so much so that I think the door to are room or the bathroom vibrated when they walked about there room this usually started at 6 in the morning, they also had a serious snoring problem which also virbrated into are room which you had to injure all night long and also television noise (breakfast room possibly). on the third morning at around 5.20 loud music started playing, I assumed it was also from the above room , so having had 3 sleepless nights I went down to the reception and explained the situation, they said they would send a porter to deal with it. the music never stopped so at around 9.00 I decide to go back down to reception and see what the were doing about but instead of taking the lift I took the stairs and to my amazement on my way past the breakfast room which was directly below us I realised it was there were the music was coming from (very loud). so we asked to change rooms, girls at reception didn't seem overly bothered, didn't apologise or seem overly concerned (I don't think this is the first time they have had this complaint). we were moved to the newer addition at the back of the hotel (hotel Gdansk yachting), which was much better, less noise and a lot more relaxed in general actually I think they are better rooms than the old part. on checking out again the girls didn't seem to concerned, they didn't ask if we got on ok in the second room, didn't apologise for the noise, see was more concerned if we had used the mini bar the evening before didn't even say thank you when I settled the bill. ??????????????? there is also a lot of construction going on at the min around the hotel, the hotel can not help this but its something to keep in mind Collapse

Nice hotel for couples. Nice interior, great staff. Nice breakfast, but not worth going to restaurant on supper ala carte. The location is great, just next to river and marina. Because of historic building very small windows.

One part of the hotel is an old barn from the age of the Hanseatic League and the annex is very modern decorated with naval themes and catering for the sailors calling on the port for yachts situated on the other side of the street. The first night was a bit noisy because there was a company's incentive party in a tent with a lot of music right below our window. We had dinner with a party of 64 with decent service and good food.
