Upon arrival the reception area was nice enough, receptionist was nice enough and informed us that the lift was just through the door. Now I am not one of those people who get freaked out by elevators but with three people and two bags in it I thought the thing was going to collapse on itself. Feeling relieved to actually reach the room (401) we were just happy to have a place to rest. However the room was far too hot and so we tried to turn on the air conditioning, we're still trying to figure out how to turn it on. Further, the TV simply did not turn on either. The decor was dated however (I hope) in an ironic sort of way and thus was fine. The main issue arose from the fact said decor was faded and peeling. Also, the apparent free wifi did not work at all in the room and having a teenager in our party the wifi was an attractive feature. The shower was small and had some of the worst water pressure I've ever seen, and I live in the north of Scotland. Breakfast was fine however there was a lack of hot food(bacon and eggs etc.) however I do understand the hotel offers continental breakfasts, despite this there was still a severe lack of varieties of cereal. There was also not a bar in the hotel which was disappointing. Overall, I do understand Rome is an old city and the hotel is an old building however there's a stage when basic standards come in to play and there is no way this hotel would pass for 4 Stars by British standards. The location is great with lots of places to eat locally and with a really great restaurant just yards away. The rooms were very clean and with a great bathroom. It is in a great location only 10 minutes walk from the Colosseum. The breakfast could be improved. Some of the staff were really nice and some not very friendly. Wi-fi was a bit hit-and-miss and air-con a bit useless. I would still recommend this hotel. Collapse

Just returned from a stay in Rome staying at the Hotel Gallia. The hotel itself is in an ideal location, 10 minutes walk to the Coliseum,Train/bus terminals and easily walkable to many of the sights of Rome and right next to Maria Maggiore Basilar. The hotel is a great base station for those that want a base for the night to sleep and want to be out all day. The hotel has a 4* rating but don't think it deserves this due to the facilities it provides and could do with some updating internally and some new features as it has a lovely terrace on the 5th floor and a ground floor area that would easily accommodate a little bar area, which it currently doesn't have. Our room was quiet (room 102) with a bathroom which was in need of an update to have a shower we had to sit in bath or kneel over bath to wash hair with shower head and there is plenty of room to have an over head shower attached to the wall over bath. The hotel offers breakfast cereals, cold meats, cheese, sweet croissants/cakes and rock hard bread rolls, their is no toaster and no toasting bread. Meals: there are plenty of eateries near the hotel for a meal of an evening. You just have to look around and see what you want and at the price you want. Cons of hotel: Lack of facilities for guests particularly of the evening. Pro's: Good location and clean Would I stay again probably not as it didn't tick certain boxes. If changes made to make more comfortable and more focused to additional factors then yes. Terrace is an amazing space and needs utilizing not just for breakfast in summer which it has not been, but a space for guests to enjoy during afternoon/evening i.e. a BAR before venturing out to dinner. Staff only saw 3 members during 4 day stay and one was more interested in smoking on front step of hotel than interacting with guests. Door Keys are keys that you hand in and out every time leave enter hotel, nice but maids don't double lock door like we left it. Safes are provided but not secured in cupboards. Collapse

Hotel staff were very friendly and the place was clean. However the room did not meet our expectations as it was very small for two people, bits needed repairing shower was not good, no safe in room, the air conditioning vent was leaking, noisy and left open apparently that's how it works. I did see couple of other rooms they seem lovely but we had a dark, small room that needed lots of repairs and personally I think is was a single room with a extra bed added. There was no place for second person to put their things. The hotel had lovely views from the terrace and close to shops and restaurants. Collapse
