I stayed at the Gala Hotel from Jan. 8 – 15, 2017. The hotel is across the street from the Atlantic Ocean. I found the hotel clean, the rooms modern and comfortable with a coat of fresh paint. I was a single traveler from the USA, however this hotel accommodates people of all backgrounds: solo travelers, couples and families as well, since there are playgrounds for children and activities for adults and children offered during the day. Customer Service I found the staff at the reception quite friendly and helpful speaking several languages fluently and answered my questions with patience and a smile, except for one lady in the spa area. Accommodations I had booked a room with a view of the sea but when I checked in and saw that my room was mostly facing the swimming pool with a limited view of the sea, I asked for a different room and got one with a better view of the Atlantic Ocean. The room was brand new with modern furniture, TV and nice size balcony. Since I enjoy reading on a balcony with a nice view, this was perfect for me. TV The TV stations broadcasted in Spanish of course, but also offered several stations in German, English, Dutch, Italian and French. Also, I like to listen to classical music and found a station with classical music (#63) Wi-Fi Wi-Fi is free in a designated area, however if you want to have it in your room there is a fee depending how long you want to use it, by the minute, hour, days, weeks etc. The reception is usually good, however once in a while it slows down. Food: I thought the food was plentiful and excellent and something for every taste and also for health conscious people (although the food was usually warm rather than hot) Exercise/Activity: There are several activities scheduled during the day. There is fitness center with treadmills, bicycles and some machines for strength exercises. Every day there was a course offered either in Stretching, Yoga, Zumba and once a week there is one entitled Postural Fit which I especially enjoyed and was impressed by the teacher, Giorgio, who is Italian and speaks English fluently. He practices holistic health and his thorough explanation and the health benefits for each one of the exercises was very helpful and how some also contributes to better sleep (Chinese squat). He also told me that the hotel was changing to be a more health conscious hotel. The activities were posted close to the dining room, however my frustration was trying to find where the activities were offered so I have some suggestions to consider for better customer service: • Have a map of the facilities available upon check-in or one in everyone’s room • Putting the day’s activities on everyone’s door like the cruise lines do for people traveling on a cruise OR • Have the weekly schedule and the location inside the room since it seems the schedule does not change much OR • Have the schedule displayed on TV for every day and the location and perhaps a sample of the activities so people have an idea what to expect OR • Send the activities/entertainment schedule of the day to the email address and/or smart phone for those guests who are electronically connected Spa/Swimming/Bath There are two swimming pools and new lounge chairs around the swimming pool. Even though one of the swimming pools was supposed to be heated it certainly did not feel that way the water was cold – so several times I swam my laps in the spa area where the water was quite warm. When using the spa make sure you know what is included in your tour price if you booked a tour, otherwise there is a fee for using the spa and also a fee for using the towels (or take the towels from your room). If you like to take a relaxing bath, the bathtub in the room was quite deep. Entertainment The hotel posts a daily schedule of the entertainment near the dining area. Every evening there is a band playing dance music and usually at 21:30 there is other entertainment scheduled. I enjoyed the Flamingo dancers and the acrobats. Since my room was right above the dance floor and I could hear the music, I was concerned about the loudness, but the music stops at 23:00 every night and it was quiet after that. Other guests Coming to a place like Tenerife from the USA, it is always fun to talk to other people, I speak German and English fluently and also tried to practice a bit of Spanish and French or try to figure out what language other people speak and start a conversation, since it seems there are people from just about every European country visiting here. All in all I enjoyed my visit at the Gala hotel and would come back. Collapse

This is our second visit to the Gala, and this time we opted for a Club Alexandre room. A lot better than the one we had last year. So many people on Tripadvisor have mentioned the staff rudeness. We have not experienced any of that. One problem could be in the restaurant which is completely understaffed and the poor people there are overwhelmed and don't have time to chat, or whatever. The hotel has recently refurbished the restaurant and it looks lovely, but they have reduced the number of tables and so on most evenings, you have to queue for dinner. The food has not improved that much, but sometimes you get lucky and get something like freshly carved turkey or sirloin steak, both of which were excellent. Breakfasts are a bit of a bunfight and unless you get there in good time, a lot of things have gone. Everything is clean and they are doing a lot of upgrading at the moment. The main complaint from my point of view is the maid service. Don't get me wrong, our maids did a good job and the room and bathroom were spotless. They are just not always on the case regarding replenishing toiletries and shower caps are non-existant, but all this can be rectified by a call to reception. Would probably go back. Collapse

Stayed here for a week from January 8th. The hotel is not as bad as some people make out. Hotel is spotless, rooms large and spacious, maid service exceptional, plenty shower gels and shampoo left in bathroom not that we used them we brought our own as you do, restaurant staff didn't really talk probably because they were so busy, entertainment wasn't for us but we didn't spend time in the hotel at night. Pool area and sunbathing areas were lovely and seating areas, great views. Reception area was lovely and always clean.Always plenty of choice of food at mealtimes, some people are fussy and never happy. To the restaurant manager. ..keep those spectacles clean lol. Would use this hotel again if the price was right, had a good stay. Collapse

Should be maximum 3 star. Pillows rock hard. No conditioner. Had to request shower cap at reception. Three days had no shower gel ( 2 adults and strapping 15 yr old requires more than one tiny tube!) Tiny slab of hand soap not replaced regularly.Had to steal toilet paper from restaurant loo as not enough in room. Only one spare blanket for a 3 person room. No tea/coffee facilities. Vending machines throughout for drinks. Evening entertainment poor (will excuse this cos of location but more of an effort could have been made especially with teenagers in the hotel). Really disappointed but should have believed other negative reviews so we live and learn! Collapse

The Hotel was clean. Well appointed for things to go and look at and do . Evening entertainment was pretty good too. The meals were the only trouble we had. Everything, apart from an omelette or fried egg with tour breakfast, was either tepid or stone cold. Not one hot meal was HOT!!! We also had to pay for every drop of drink that passed our lips, except tea/coffee at breakfast. No facilities in the rooms. You were even charged for the water in the room. It worked out very expensive being thirsty!!!! Collapse
