Stayed again at this ideal hotel. We were a group of 15 anglers, the hotel and staff did all they could to make our annual trip stress free. I stayed here recently for one night on a work trip. The hotel was reasonably priced and the staff were polite and accommodating. I was left a little disappointed by the room. There were tiles on the floor as you entered the room (which I thought was a little strange!) before being carpeted in the part where your room was. Most things about the room were ‘alright’, nothing really impressed me although some aspects of the room could do with updating; the TV was tiny and looked like it had been there for a long time, the door to the room looked like it had taken a bit of a battering in the past with chunks out of it and the frame. The bathroom was good, but nothing more than you would expect. The breakfast was plentiful and well worth booking in for. Overall I would consider staying here again if I was in the area, but wouldn’t necessarily rush back. Collapse

Stayed here early August with my wife as part of Buy a Gift Voucher. Hotel clean and tidy, nice size bedroom and friendly staff. Breakfast was good - buffet style. Had an evening meal on second night which was excellent. My wife had steak -well done and I had poached salmon. My wife is fussy with a steak and insists on well done. She commented as being on one of the best steaks she had eaten for some time. Collapse
Wedding ceremony and reception disappointment

Booked to have my wedding ceremony and evening reception here in 2019. Had a viewing with Viv who showed us the room for the wedding, the bedrooms, restaurant and bar and TOLD us how they (meaning the Gainsborough) had plenty of beautiful grounds on site for photos. After being impressed with the inside of the hotel we put down our deposit of £500. After doing some research on wedding photos taken at the hotel, I noticed that there wasn't any photos taken outside on these "beautiful grounds" which sparked a concern. After discussing my concerns with my partner we decided to contact the hotel to see these gounds they apparently have to offer. After turning up we could see a wedding was going on so went straight to reception and spoke to Pauline about where there is places to have photos, and if the little patch of grass up the side of the building was considered the hotel grounds. Paulines response left me feeling angry and very upset to say the least and was told that there is a wood a short walk up the road that the Gainsborough use for their wedding photos. Before dismissing the idea of having my wedding I decided to take a walk to this wood to see for myself. This broke my heart even more to see that is was public recreational grounds and not the "beautiful grounds" advertised by Viv during our viewing. After feeling distraught at the fact we had been fobbed off we decided to look elsewhere as public grounds is not our idea of perfect wedding memories. Emails were sent to Viv expressing how i felt and unknown to myself i received a response back from Tim who is apparently the hotel manager, which you wouldnt know from his disgusting rude manner and lack of customer service. Following this, we decided to go back to the hotel to express our upset in person and in hope of getting our deposit back as we were not getting what we had been told we were. Jill dealt with us and was very understanding of the issue and even agreed with us that the grounds on site are not what you would call ideal grounds for wedding photos, and this is coming from a wedding coordinator and duty manager. Jill even agreed that the public grounds should not be part of the advertisement for the Gainsborough as it is not their property to advertise. Unfortunately the manager (Tim) was not on site at the time so Jill left messages for him to get in contact with us to discuss the matter further. Tim eventually got back to us and told us straight away that there was no chance of our deposit back as we had signed a contract even after we told him that we had false information on the hotels grounds. Tim told me they do not advertise the recreational grounds as their own but told me in an email that THEY have a recreational park next door which implies that they own it, with a 500 year old cedar tree as can be seen from the section copied from the email: "But did you know that right next door we have a park and recreational grounds that’s very attractive and boasts a 5oo year old cedar tree, Idealistic for wedding photos of groups and more importantly those special ones of yourselves together." After a long discussion he told us we had no chance at a refund and he was very rude to both myself and my partner. How he has been made a manager is beyond me. He kept asking us to explain why we wanted a refund but kept talking over us and being quite offensive. But at the same time he even agreed that he could see why see were upset. Let this be my warning to you, if you want a perfect setting with beautiful grounds and control of your own wedding rather than being dictated to AVOID THE GAINSBOROUGH Collapse
