We booked this as sort of a last minute holiday using the family's RCI points (timeshare). Although not boasting their "Gold Crown" highest award, they were still highly regarded. On past experience such hotels are usually trying to make the small changes to receive that coveted award. Overall here, we felt that wasn't the case. The hotel is ideally situated between "The Strip" and Old town, has a free shuttle service (which was useful) and was on a major road meaning other modes of transport were easy (the little train, taxis, tuktuks, Uber's and excursion pick ups). Plenty of nice restaurants nearby, including the incredible stews and more. A €50 trip from Faro airport wasn't too bad, we were initially impressed by the facade but were quickly turned off by the smell of sewage. Seemingly we came in the back door and wandered around for a bit looking for reception before realizing it was on the first floor. Check in was painless and we were told where our apartment was on the top floor (423). First impressions of the apartment was good, opulent/over the top furniture filled the space well and air conditioning units in 2 rooms with a single remote to operate each individually - neat! However, first looks can be deceiving. The sofas were firm and not terribly comfortable, the odd revolving love seat was a bit James Bond and again not comfortable. In the bedroom there were two single beds, made up as single beds and pushed sort of together - for a couple this was very annoying, especially as they'd slide apart in the middle of the night leaving a gaping chasm to awkwardly fall down. Two flat screen TV's were good with 4 English channels, lacking DVD player seemed like an oversight. Other facilities within the apartment missed the mark - the kitchen was well stocked with fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine as well as a kettle, juicer and coffee machine but the pots, knives and cutlery seemed cheap. And although we were provided with a sponge and small bottle of washing up liquid, in other high rated RCI apartments we'd been provided with detergent and dishwasher soap which wasn't the case here. The bathroom again was well appointed with a bath + shower over, bidet and plenty of vanity space. The "freebies" were cheap looking sachets of stuff, a comb and a little vanity box. Not surprisingly it contained a solitary, used and clearly soiled cotton earbud. Definitely wasn't going to use that comb now! The dispensers within the actual bath were hard to use and the soap was either empty or just plain didn't work. Fortunately we'd brought all of our own stuff. The balcony was a reasonable size with a decent table and chairs and a clothes rack. Our view wasn't terrible over a car park with other hotels in the distance. We could see the sea... sort of. More than sufficient for breakfast and lunch, just beware the seagulls! Credit to the hotel staff who valiantly rescued us from said balcony after I stupidly managed to lock us out on it. Don't ask how, just know we weren't the first and probably won't be the last. I didn't really understand the cleaning schedule. Some days the bed would be made, some days not. Some days the balcony would have the bird mess cleaned up, some days certainly not. And it seems that my partner and I are cursed by towel fairies who reduce our towel allocation daily while we're abroad meaning bidet towels became bath mats and hand towels before having to give up on having a dry floor altogether. We'd read bad things about the restaurant so steered clear of that as well as the bar as we'd not paid for all inclusive. The gym was well appointed but you had to pay - another annoying thing that usually comes as standard and suffice it to say we did not use it. The pool area was clean and tidy with plenty of sun loungers for the time of year we went. For some reason it was like an ice bath which meant one dip in the entire holiday - a shame because I really love swimming on holiday. Pro: Nice, friendly staff Reasonable accommodation Great location Con: Fails on attention to detail - it's all about the small things! Odd and patchy cleaning service Cold swimming pool Price tag on the gym Collapse
Not so impressed with the smaller details

Myself and sister arrived 2 days ago, I expected the room to be 3* (not 5*) as per reviews, with basic provisions. It was correct! I'm happy with the apartment style space however there are many areas they need to rectify. Cleaning is basic, counters not wiped, bathroom packeted comb had been previously used with hair tangled on it, toilet seat not cleaned whilst watching the cleaner! and the seat wasnt fixed on properly. Another issue was the absence of a balcony in room 300, where would we dry our swimwear? The manager said we should lay it out the window on the downstairs roofing tiles!! Er I don't think so! We chose self catering because we read the food was below average, so couldn't comment on the restaurant or bar, but the choice of entertainment was quite poor. Such as karaoke and bingo - guests were returning to their rooms early evening. We bought our food from a supermarket 10 mins away with prices same as London. The cooker/microwave/fridge freezer and pots/plates/glasses/cutlery in the kitchen were all clean. The frying pan however had metal peeling off so we didn't use that. The knives were cheap looking but did the job required. There was supposed to be a hotel shuttle service which during our stay had broken down, they didn't know when the bus would be fixed and there was no other replacement provided. However since we didn't have mobility problems we walked to the beach which is 10-15 away on cobbled pavements, to the strip to buy souvenirs which was also a clubbing hangout, and the old town 20+ mins walk which is another beach with shops/ restaurants/bars. The location of the hotel is is the middle of the strip, old town and beaches. If I came again I'd prefer a balcony overlooking a beach close to the old town. Collapse

Well-situated hotel apartments, midway between the Old Town and the new town. About 10 minutes walk to the Strip (great if you likes lots of life, hen and stag parties) and about 15 minutes (downhill, so up a very steep hill on the way back) to the cliffs, and escalator, to the Old Town. There are about half a dozen decent restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, too. Collapse
