Happy hour ends at 6 30 rigid even if you are halfway through buying a round ....? At evening meal time... tea, coffee and drink machines are all switched off ? so unless you buy water or alcohol from the bar you are going to dehydrate very quickly eating the poor quality salty food on offer the waitress even took water jugs away from diners and returned with bottled water and a bill for 2 euros ...some of the staff had a strange look on their face all weekend ? possible death in the family ? or just hate the job ..? we certainly noticed it . The hotel however is very clean and our room was ok ...a bit dated shower door leaked on the floor , the walls are paper thin so you can hear every sound either side of you . pool area is lovely loads of room and a bit of a sun trap £1 ew for a bus to civilisation . I would recommend ...accommodation only ...and get a room at the front of the hotel as the view at the back is a brick wall Collapse
Simple but comfortable

Very good location, seaview from each window. Beach is just one minute walk. Big apartment - 40 m2, helpful staff, they recommended a nice restaurant and a perfect flamenco show. It features an outdoor pool with a bar. Very good free wifi.

Very disappointing Just returned home from a weekend at this hotel.......We went half board.. Wish we hadn't the Food was the worst we've ever had and not very much to choose from. Plus we had to share the small resturant with around 100 school children. Our Room 708b had the worst view over looking residential flats also had a see through glass door on the bathroom so no privacy! We asked to move but was told NO without receptionist even checking if other rooms were available. Bar staff were rude, be mindful of the happy hour 5.30-6.30 we started to order round of drinks at 6.15pm. Halfway through our order the lady started to serve another couple. By the time she finished our order it was 6.35pm and we were made to pay full price even tho we started the order 15 mins before cut off!.. A long way out of town and nothing around the hotel unless you walk for 20-30 mins to closest bar....FREE WIFI was only for the first 100 to log on. Would not recommend this hotel Collapse

Booked this hotel as a birthday treat for my daughter and was pleased to arrive to friendly staff at reception and a lovely spacious suite that was so big you could live in it. We had everything we needed including fully equipped kitchen, iron and ironing board, hairdryer and shower gel. Wi-Fi was also included throughout the hotel. Bathroom spacious with large walk in shower with normal or rainfall showers, wall mounted hairdryer and extendable mirror. Clean towels and shower mat provided. Bedroom was large with twin beds including light switches and plugs next to the beds (Handy for charging phones). Off the bedroom was a corridor with large fitted wardrobes leading to the bathroom. Large lounge with wall mounted t.v. (Spanish channels only) dining table, comfy sofa bed and room lead out onto a balcony with lovely views of the sea and the hills. Ate in the bar the first night and food was ok but not exceptional. Buses stop right outside the hotel which is handy as hotel is some distance from the main bars and shops so nothing to all to in the near vicinity within a half hour walk. Collapse

There was a lot of grumbling about this hotel as many people had stayed at Sunset Beach in the past. It is true that it is a litlle farther out than Sunset Beach, but once you figure out the buses, it doesn't make much difference. We used the train station called Torremuelle and found it a bit of a walk to get there, but fast transit to Malaga and less crowded than the bus. Get your Tarjeta Dorada (Senior's Card) at Malaga Station and your train trips are 1/2 the price. We connected at the Station for trips to Seville and Cordoba - wonderful scenic trips and so cheap compared to tours. Flew to Barcelona using Vueling Airlines (pay for extra legroom) from Malaga Airport. Our apartment at Flatotel was very nice - spacious and clean, with a nice balcony view (Rm 1005)., a big bedroom (Sunset Beach is the size of a small walk-in closet). We shopped at SuperCor and we found Mercadona too late in our trip. It is in the opposite direction to Benalmadena. It is not true that there are no restaurants nearby, just walk up the hill to the Mercadona Shopping Centre and there is a nice coffee shop El Gato Negro, I think. Turn left at tge hitel entrance and go up the hill and there is a little British pub/restaurant. Best of all go downhill and turn left when you are opposite the casino and you will find La Traviatta where the owner Maurizio makes great pizza and Tiramisu and loves to kibbitz with customers. He treated us to limoncello and made a special appetizer the last night we were there. There is a Dutch bar and another restaurant on this block and a great little Market which is great to shop in on Sunday when the markets are closed. The restaurant in the hotel had no eye appeal so we didn't eat there at all. We always had breakfast in the room when not travelling and we had dinner in the room a few times. Easy to make Bolognese and cook spaghetti and have some excellent Rioja with it. We enjoyed nicely prepared fish at the restaurant next to SuperCor and really good Indian food on the main street opposite the entrance to the Malecon - take a bus down here. The elevators in this hotel are a serious problem as only one was available most days although we had seen all of them working at least once. There are hotel guests who seem to be getting physio treatments in an office in the building so often there is a guest in a wheelchair and their family on the elevator so there is no room to get on. Another elevator seems to be reserved for cleaning staff. It seems that some rooms are renovated and some not. It seems the hotel is in a transition stage. I really enjoyed my stay at Flatotel and I missed it when back in Canada - it and Maurizio's pizza. Collapse
