Recently returned from a six day vacation in New York. Couldn't get a better for location as a base for exploring the city. Almost right on the door of the Grand Central Station. Hotel was warm, clean and friendly, has its own traditional Irish bar attached, cosy and private. A special thanks to a hospitality student from Ireland - Thomas who made our stay all the better with local information and advice. An old head on young shoulders who has a friendly enquiring manner without being intrusive allowing him to pin point guests needs inorder to assist with their stay. Has to be said an asset to the hotel and I'm sure he'll do exceptionally well in his chosen career. The exchange rate at the moment makes New York expensive, as the city's prices are high in the first instance. $15 for a pack of 8 AA batteries so make sure your camera is charged! Wine that you can buy in the UK for £3.50 - £5 per bottle will set you back $ 16 to 27 for same. A pint in a bar will set you back $ 8- 12 although you can get a happy hour deal ranging from $ 3 to 6. Food in general is just as expensive, so much so that if your on an average budget it will put a damper on where and what you can eat. Most of the exhibits are priced around $ 20 - 35 per head ( although some such as the Natural history museum suggest you pay $22 per head when in fact it's a donation an amount of your choice) Statin Island ferry is free and gives a very good view of the Statue of Liberty with a great back drop of the city. Walking over Brooklyn bridge just as it starts to get dark and the city starts to light up is a must. Rocker fella centre gives a great view of the city, again start in daylight and let it change to dusk - fantastic. ($ 34 a head no time limit). The train / subway service is easy to use ( read up on this before you go) a $13 return from Grand Central (GC) for two to Ground Zero will leave you with 10cents on your travel card. If walking, you can walk one way from Grand Central to ground zero in about 1 and a half hrs, zig zag from GC to Hell's Kitchen area via Little Italy and China town set aside at least 4 hrs. Overall whole atmosphere was great. Collapse

A lovely, small, clean and friendly hotel in a very good location near Grand Central Station. The staff there at the front desk, the concierge and the housekeeping staff were so good to us. Will be back there again!

Lovely hotel across the street from Grand Central NYC .... checking us in was a very sweet young lady... she could not have been any nicer. The lobby is decorated tastefully… I like that the hotel has regular desk at the check-in as opposed to the high top counters… Feels more personal.... especially since they offer you a delicious cup of hot chocolate complete with marshmallows while you check-in. It was cold outside so it was much appreciated. When checking in we had originally been upgraded – complementary… To a Junior suite from a regular king-size room… there was some mechanical problems of some sort (which did not affect us in the least ) so they were out of Junior suite rooms but gave us two complementary breakfast to make up for it… Which was not expected (since our upgrade because complementary anyways ) but once again appreciated… my breakfast was delicious! I had the American breakfast which consist of 2X delicious bacon, bread, homefront potatoes… And a bowl of fruit alone with a pot of coffee. This is an Irish hotel… So they also offered Irish breakfast. Once we got to the room we were not disappointed… Very nice pretty spacious room… one other nice touch in his hotel… We were greeted with a small tray of cookies, chocolate covered strawberry and fruit. Also three bottles of Stillwater and one bottle of sparkling at no charge. The bed was quite comfortable… Very nice linens… Only thing I did not like on the bed was a flat sheet and not a fitted sheet was the bottom sheet. So halfway through the night The bottom sheet was wrinkled and a bit uncomfortable because of the sheet not being fitted. I probably would not have even noticed the sheets except… At 2:30 AM a street cleaning truck of some sort was right outside and make tons of noise and I do mean tons for about an hour and a half… So that woke me And my husband.... I could not get back to sleep because of the noise and then of course I became uncomfortable because of the sheet… But the noise is not a hotel issue… After all it is New York City and you're going to have some noise which is expected. Bottom line to that if your light sleeper asked for a room not facing street. Overall a very nice hotel… very nice and personable style checking in and in the restaurant. And the price is excellent for the area in the city… I believe with tax it was around $150. My husband and I agree we would definitely stay here again. Collapse

We stayed here in December, my first time in NYC! Boy it was fantastic! My partner had informed the hotel it was my birthday and we received a complementary bottle on champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries. The hotel was lovely and well decorated for Christmas! The location was brilliant and within walking distance of lots of the main attractions. The staff were always on hand to assist. The rooms were spacious and more than fulfilled our needs. We ordered breakfast in bed on the morning of my birthday which was lovely. It was slightly on the pricey side but we were in NYC for my birthday, it would have been rude not to! The bar attached to the hotel was also good! It could be quite busy but was a nice atmosphere. The concierge was always helpful and gave us advice when trying to book a table for my birthday dinner. They also hailed a cab whenever we needed it whilst we sat in the warm! Would most certainly stay here again and the Fitzpatrick Grand Central will always hold a special place in my heart for my first trip to NYC which in itself is an awesome city! Collapse
