It’s not a large chain hotel and being an old house you can’t expect the same finish but very un impressed. The rooms are very very dated, as with many other reviews anytime someone runs the tap, flushed the toilet it’s very loud! What makes it worse is the cleanliness.... our room had cobwebs in the bathroom, engrained dust on the carpets and dust pretty much over all the skirtings. Clearly cleaning or attention to detail isn’t a focus point! Collapse

I stayed here so I could be close to get to my 7am client (hair for bridal party) the following morning. thinking as I live four hours away I would get the good nights sleep I needed after a long journey down and be well rested for my wedding party the following day and the journey home. Oh how wrong was I... the walls are like paper you could hear every time a toilet was flushed, a tap was run and every time someone walked about. Loud bangs were persistent. Eventually got to sleep (around 2am) after enduring this for a couple of hours, only to be woken up suddenly by what seems like a running generator in the room. As it was 2:30 am and I had to be up in 3 and a half hours enough was enough. I went down to reception and was greeted by a pleasant man who was very understanding and wanted to hear noises himself so came up to the room, he agreed that he could hear what sounded like a continuous running motor sound and opted us to move room. We were moved to a room on the other side of hotel and fell asleep instantly, there were a few noises but nothing compared to what we had. I woke up 6am and went to work very very tired and feeling ill from lack of sleep. My partner also stayed with me and the icing on the cake for him was being woken up at 7:30am to the use of power tools (drill and saw) for some unexpected renovation work which was not made clear to us when we arrived. Having said that he would of been woken up by being able to hear everything that was going on in the room adjacent from conversations to shower and taps running. Having payed £89 for one nights stay we feel really let down and how it can be advertised as a hotel is beyond me. The grounds are amazing but really needs some investment put into it to make it the hotel it is advertised as. Safe to say will not be staying here again and now have a very long four hour journey home Collapse

This hotel is in very nice surroundings and looks good from the outside. I stay at a lot of Premier Inns normally so this looked like it was going to be a pleasant change - it was the opposite. The check in seemed fine and was quick and efficient, on entering my room I thought it looked a bit dated. That was nothing compared to what was to follow.... I had finished early that day but my opportunity for a couple of hours peace and quiet was spoiled by the fact that I was made aware of every time somebody ran a tap or flushed the toilet in the whole place as it could be heard plainly in my room. I was not too distressed so far as I have always been a heavy sleeper. Dinner was not too bad in the evening it even appeared to have been cooked and not microwaved from frozen as I waited a sensible amount of time. When I chose to get into bed for the night my peace was quickly shattered by the most horrific noise in the room - akin to somebody into a wall. I could not find the source, radiators, extractor fan etc and after about 5 minutes it stopped. I lay in bed again thinking that it will probably be alright but obviously a bit nervous when I heard somebody use their sink and 2 toilets flushed the noise came back after quickly dressing I rushed to reception quite pleased that you could hear the noise in the hallway so I would not appear mad. When me and the staff member got back to my room it had stopped quickly this time. I complained that this was the most terribly noisy room I have ever stayed in and wanted another he said they did not have one - I insisted that he must have and he relented and got me another key. I was quite happy that this room was in a little alcove with doors either side the were not rooms so should be quite quiet. The bed was even worse than the not very good one in the first room but with it now gone midnight and having been up since 4am I thought it would be OK - imagine my dismay when at 5am the following morning it sounded like a plane was taking off in my room. This time it was definitely a noise being produced in the radiator and lasted for about 20 minutes, I did not get back to sleep before my alarm at 7.30, I just lay there annoyed! I left the hotel with my bag and no breakfast as I was too angry and tired to argue with the intention of not going back - my company did not book me another hotel as asked so I returned here and explained who I was and how unhappy I was and was told that they now had another room for me - an upgrade in fact. Still on the first floor just the other side of the corridor, I have not noticed what is upgraded about it in particular and in the couple of hours before dinner have still noticed some strange noises although I have not heard any toilets flushing. What I have noticed though is the appalling noises from adjoining rooms to one side they seem to be trying all the switches and sockets out - every click is plainly heard in here. To the other side I can hear exactly what is on the television and could hear their telephone conversation like it was in my room - there is one of those adjoining doors you sometimes see in hotel rooms, it may as well be open!! This place could be very good with some investment - yes it will cost more than ten thousand pounds but in an area like this it could such a wise investment. Having read all the other bad reviews it is plainly not going to happen. Collapse

This hotel is set in lovely well kept grounds. There is a lot of parking but when we arrived they had a wedding reception and it was difficult for us to find a space. The hotel is quaint and interesting but does have a 'tired' feel to the decor. Our room was quite small as were the en suite bathroom and the bed (a double not king size) so it felt cramped. The plumbing from other rooms was audible in ours. Although the bathroom was small and had a rather old plastic shower curtain, the shower itself was very good. Breakfast was between 8.00 and 9.30 which is quite a small window compared to most hotels these days. It was buffet style with a selection of cereals and hot food. There was no fresh bread, but slices of pre-prepared toast were available. I would say it was adequate but not lavish. Collapse

Me and my boyfriend attended a wedding at the hotel, where he had the position of the best man. The wedding was beautiful, especially when pictures were taken in the grounds. Food was delicious, bar was well stocked and with friendly service! The room itself was cute, a little outdated for 2016. But room service was fast and came with big portions of food, bed was comfortable, shower was lovely. Breakfast in the morning was average, but I would recommend this stay for a couple who need a romantic getaway - nice secluded setting with horses in the beautiful fields. Collapse
