Booked this hotel as daughter was staying the night before her wedding at The Northbrook Park venue the next day. We did not stay the night as was held up but made it in the morning. My first impression on approaching the room from top of stairs was the linen cupboard left open next to the room not pleasant. The room was small but clean, shower cubicle was a bit of a squeeze, full English breakfast was good but forgot the toast due to one member mainly serving and taking orders as was quite busy at the time. The dinning area was a big bight area overlooking the grounds, with the bar area cosy and comfortable. Collapse

I used to use this hotel when working in the area a few years ago. We were visiting family in the area, so I thought it would be nice to revisit. The staff were friendly, but the whole place seemed run down and dirty. We had three rooms on the ground floor. The room I had been allocated smelt musty and damp. The bathroom had original leaded windows with large cobwebs around it. There was a used dirty J-cloth left on the desk. I tried the TV which had a message saying "no signal". The information pack said to log on to the hotel wi-fi, enter an email address. This information was wrong and you have to ask reception for a code to be able to access it. I tried to call reception using the phone in the room, but I found the telephone port was an empty cover so the cable was just pushed into a void in the wall. I went to reception to let them know. They were very pleasant and offered me an adjacent room. This was a little better, but the mattress was very soft and uncomfortable. In the corridors outside the rooms, there were sacks of laundry lying around and cleaning products left discarded. Breakfast was okay, but the menu said that it was cooked to order when it was actually buffet style where you serve yourself. The menu was a laminated sheet of A4, so it wouldn't take a lot to update it. There are drawings in reception showing their big plans for 2018, but they also need to work on the basics such as keeping the place clean. Collapse

It’s not a large chain hotel and being an old house you can’t expect the same finish but very un impressed. The rooms are very very dated, as with many other reviews anytime someone runs the tap, flushed the toilet it’s very loud! What makes it worse is the cleanliness.... our room had cobwebs in the bathroom, engrained dust on the carpets and dust pretty much over all the skirtings. Clearly cleaning or attention to detail isn’t a focus point! Collapse

I stayed here so I could be close to get to my 7am client (hair for bridal party) the following morning. thinking as I live four hours away I would get the good nights sleep I needed after a long journey down and be well rested for my wedding party the following day and the journey home. Oh how wrong was I... the walls are like paper you could hear every time a toilet was flushed, a tap was run and every time someone walked about. Loud bangs were persistent. Eventually got to sleep (around 2am) after enduring this for a couple of hours, only to be woken up suddenly by what seems like a running generator in the room. As it was 2:30 am and I had to be up in 3 and a half hours enough was enough. I went down to reception and was greeted by a pleasant man who was very understanding and wanted to hear noises himself so came up to the room, he agreed that he could hear what sounded like a continuous running motor sound and opted us to move room. We were moved to a room on the other side of hotel and fell asleep instantly, there were a few noises but nothing compared to what we had. I woke up 6am and went to work very very tired and feeling ill from lack of sleep. My partner also stayed with me and the icing on the cake for him was being woken up at 7:30am to the use of power tools (drill and saw) for some unexpected renovation work which was not made clear to us when we arrived. Having said that he would of been woken up by being able to hear everything that was going on in the room adjacent from conversations to shower and taps running. Having payed £89 for one nights stay we feel really let down and how it can be advertised as a hotel is beyond me. The grounds are amazing but really needs some investment put into it to make it the hotel it is advertised as. Safe to say will not be staying here again and now have a very long four hour journey home Collapse
