We booked our holiday around very specific dates and had no prior knowledge of Lanzarote and I'm really pleased with how things turned out and our choice to stay at Fariones (thank you Tripadvisors!) This is a small complex but being part of the Fariones chain is run very slickly with lots of staff doing their jobs efficiently and very friendly. We stayed on the second floor opposite the much complained about "wall". Being the second floor it wasn't quite so much of an issue for us. Our balcony was closed off each side and being opposite the wall gave us a nice sense of privacy. We stayed over Easter, when I'm certain they must have been close to full capacity, but all the walkways remained really quiet so the position for us was ideal. The room was cleaned daily and this is the first hotel I have stayed at where the enviro-friendly room towel policy is properly enforced - we could opt to leave dirty towels on the floor to be replaced, or keep hold of little-used ones until they needed to be taken. Toiletries were included and loo roll stocked up daily. We needed to buy washing up liquid and this came in massive bottles so might be worth bringing some if you intend to eat out and only need a little. A tea-towel was provided but kitchen cloth/sponge wasn't. Bed linen was crisp white. Beds fine - a bit firm perhaps but nothing uncomfortable for us. Our daughter was on the put-up sofa which wasn't ideal. We didn't have the option of a 2 bed apartment when I booked through Thomas Cook, but I wished we had as it made things feel quite cramped and she's a teen who could've done with her own space. The pool area is very well maintained and clean. There is a lower pool and then steps up to a sunbathing deck. The pool was chilly-ish, but nothing we didn't get used to, and as a boring adult I went in to cool off rather than spend too long in. The upper deck jacuzzi is warm and the top area has lovely views over the sea, mountains and the lighthouse. There is work going on a good few hundred metres away but this is not heard from downstairs at the pool, and you soon zone out when upstairs so despite prior concerns, it really wasn't a problem. Sunbeds were an issue! I'm not sure whether this was standard order but there seemed to be a huge group reserving one big area of the pool. One or two people would guard 15+ beds with towels on and no occupants, and there was also a "fence" of chairs put round the baby pool. Add in the others parties around the pool and it made it virtually impossible to get a bed downstairs, and seemed to cause an issue with the management when the poor life guard girl tried to do her job preventing this situation from happening. So, day in, day out we would see all these empty beds with towels on all day long and then on our final day, with only 2 hours in the morning to make the most of the sun, rather than waste time going to and fro our room, we put our towels on our beds before nipping into breakfast for literally 15 minutes if that, only to receive a "card of shame". These are actually fine as they give you an hour's grace (so I needn't have gulped down my breakfast so quickly!) but it was frustrating after seeing so many beds vacant where we didn't manage to get a pool bed all week and when we finally did, were pulled up on it. It also made us anxious that on the 3 occasions we had lunch, whether we would receive a ticket. I must say there was no written sunbed policy that we saw around the hotel. Maybe the situation should be clarified in writing, on a board at the pool to say you have one hour or your towel will be removed. Aside from the sunbed issue (and it's worth noting we always seemed to get beds up on the sundeck regardless of the time of day we got to the pool), the pool area is fairly calm and the pool itself really quite under-used, so we frequently had it to ourselves when we fancied a dip. Lunch at the pool area is really quite exceptional for the money. A range of sandwiches, salads, burgers and bigger meals were very good value and excellent quality, all being fresh and huge portions. Bar prices were also very reasonable. Breakfast reflected the high quality of the lunch food. There was such a good range and this varied every day. Again this was a reflection of the fact the apartments are linked to a big hotel chain. Twice during our stay I was able to have smoked salmon and eggs. Daily there was the usual cooked items and cheeses and hams. Choices of yoghurts, fresh fruits, breads, juices, cereals etc. All fantastic and again everything and everywhere lovely and clean. Location wise, it is approx. 5 mins walk from the lovely Playa Blanca beach. The sand is so fine, and the winds were so high it got on our nerves though as the sand got everywhere, and then some! so we stuck to the pool, but it was still lovely for a walk or run as it stretches quite away and the prom runs parallel to it. In the other direction it is 10 minutes to the old harbour area, which has a completely different atmosphere to the newer "strip". Directly around the hotel is other low-key apartments and residential properties. 5 minutes away is the Biosfera shopping centre including a roof top cinema. There is a Spar supermarket here, and there is another Spar directly north of the apartments. All around the hotel area are little footpaths and we managed to find a quick-ish route of this second Spar using these (through car park opp Spar, turn right, keep going round to left, down the path near the pool in the corner, then right and then left back to Fariones). What you can buy at the Spars and the kitchen facilities don't really tally though so I wish we'd had access by car or taxi to a decent sized supermarket to give us more diverse eating options. We ate out most night though, which was fine. Wifi was accessible in the room - better on the balcony than the bedroom but that's to be expected with heavy walled buildings. All in all this was a well located, quiet, clean and well run hotel and I would definitely look at staying there again. Collapse

We arrived at check in & Maria was very welcoming at the reception desk. We were helped with our luggage by the porter to our room. The rooms are very spacious and spotlessly clean. There is a kitchen & lounge and nice balcony. We had a great view of the sea. The T.V. was not working, so we called reception & within minutes they had an electrician to come to fix it. We went out for a walk and when we got back to the apartment, there was a bottle of cava waiting for us! What a lovely surprise! We had stayed there a few times before & it was their way of saying thanks for coming back. The breakfasts were perfect. Lovely buffet & the staff very friendly and helpful unlike the grumpy staff at the Fariones Hotel (which is currently being knocked down for renovation). Even for October it was very hot and we could have done with air conditioning. Some of the rooms have it now apparently. They had a fan in the room but was not much use. The pool is very nice and the rooftop terrace is great with fantastic views. There is a Jacuzzi on the rooftop but no one to stop kids from getting into it. Overall, the Fariones Apartments are a great place to stay and very central to everything. We will return again! Collapse
