Quick visit and thank god it was. I arrived around 8pm to this hotel and the weather outside was pretty cold so was looking forward to warming up in my room. How wrong was I. Walked in to room and windows wide open and it was freezing. No heating in the room and reception was unable to provide any portable ones. Suffice to say I froze all night. There are disgusting old cobwebs on the inside of the bedroom windows. The internet did not work at all so I had to use my personal hotspot on my phone to do some business emails. My room (Number 10) was obviously over a function room as I was woken very early of people moving furniture and banging around. It was awful. So, my thoughts are only stay here if you 1. like the cold, 2. don't need internet, 3. like sleeping with spider webs in your room and 4. don't mind being woken by banging and crashing Collapse

came here for lunch, only 3 other people were in dining. the lady working there saw us as we sat down then disappeared so we assumed she would come back to us. after 10 mins no staff in sight so got the menus myself. nobody came to take our order so again had to approach somebody to take our order. we ordered some butties with chips/side salad, they take 25 mins to arrive, chips were cold and the side salad was a very poor tiny portion, this was rectified with a proper serving and we did complain about the cold chips and were given hot chips. food was nice, however I wouldn't recommend coming here if your nipping out of work for a quick lunch break due to the lack of and slow service Collapse

Large room but very basic, quite dated and very noisy!

This hotel is impressive and beautiful from the outside. The main entrance is through the original Georgian building but if the door is closed it isn't very obvious as there is no sign for reception. The car park is ample though. On checking in, the staff were very polite. Our room, No.18, was up 2 flights of steps - there is no lift and no porter so you have to carry your own bags. The room overlooked the back of the hotel which is not far from a main road. It was a large room but very basic in terms of decor and comfort & the toiletries provided are seriously the bare minimum, i.e. one small shampoo and one small shower gel to share... so I'd recommend taking your own! The bed was a double, although the room would have easily allowed for a Kingsize, and it was very shoddily made. The lighting in the room is dingy but a bit better in the bathroom which is more modern than the rest of the room and a good size. We had travelled from the south coast to attend a wedding so would have appreciated a good night's sleep both on the evening of arrival and on the next night after the long day at the wedding. However, the room we were given was incredibly noisy as it was right above where the deliveries arrive. From around 6.30am on both mornings trucks were reversing right under our window and the reversing 'beep' which was extremely loud, went on for about an hour altogether. As well as the delivery trucks there was the dustcart which emptied all of the hotel rubbish - again right under our window! Just when we thought we might have an hour's peace, a chap with a leaf blower began working outside... Little sleep was had! There is an ironing board and iron, a hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities in the room. We ate in the restaurant on the night of arrival; the food and service were good overall although we were the only people there and were sat in a corner which was a bit odd. The background music was a variety of pop which didn't really suit the elegant Georgian decor. Breakfast was a meager buffet of tasteless pastries and sliced fruit, terrible coffee and the scrambled eggs I ordered were inedible, sorry. We complained when checking out about the noise but the manageress was on holiday so we were brushed off with an offer of a £15 discount - which we didn't take. However, we did ask to discuss things with the manageress on her return the following week. Our details were taken and we were told that 'Susan' would be very busy on her return so we would have to wait up to 7 days to hear from her. It has now been over 2 weeks and we still haven't heard a thing. Very unprofessional in our opinion. Overall a poor experience for us and we definitely won't be going back. Collapse

The grounds were very well kept and nice to have a walk round after the food. I would highly recommend this place. Very reasonably priced too. Collapse
