Disappointing and not worth the price.

I booked it online as a treat for my partner. I wanted a quiet, double room as I'm pregnant and wanted to get away from it all and relax. Check in was smooth and the lady at the desk asked about my pregnancy etc so I was very impressed. However, the room was basic and I felt it was because I had gotten a discount online when booking perhaps? It needs painting and an update. The view was lovely from the room. However, I noticed when I lay down that it wasn't a double bed but two twins pushed together with an uneven bump in the middle. This is not what I paid for and I couldn't change as the hotel was full. I think hotels that do this are a complete cop out. It's hard enough to sleep when you're pregnant but impossible when the bed is uneven and lumpy. I mentioned it to the reception staff and was told 'I'll put a note on the system'. That evening there was an awards ceremony down the hall from our room but I was assured it would be finished by 11pm. Roll on 1am and there are guests still walking to their cars and talking loudly outside our room. Breakfast was lovely the following morning but my partners eggs were cold which he returned to the kitchen. He also wasnt happy with the coffee but got a new one and some cheek from the waitress too. I felt the staff were a little unorganised as a few different waiters came to take our orders which we'd already placed. I would have loved a table by the window but twas not to be as none were cleaned at the time.I really enjoyed my breakfast though and it was the highlight. When checking out I was never asked how my stay was and the 'note on the system' wasn't even mentioned!!! I was livid to be honest and very disappointed. Im glad we decided not to stay for a second night as I dont believe its worth the price. Yes, if youre a golfer or going for a spa treatment but not for one night. The jacuzzi was lovely but its a hazard to the likes of me as theres no mat between the sauna/steam room area and the pool. It would have been a potential disaster if I slipped. All in all, a bit too far from the city for the price you pay and the quality of room you get unfortunately. Collapse
Very friendly staff and beautiful rural location. Bar food disappointing.

The room was what you would expect from a hotel of this class, well appointed, comfortable with a touch of class in the furnishings and general atmosphere. I arrived quite late in the evening so I didn't see much of the hotel other than the lounge area near reception where bar food was served. The bar itself was closed due to renovations, and painting. The only disappointment was the food I ordered in the evening (breakfast was wonderful). I ordered a 10 oz steak from the bar menu. What I received was a 6 oz. steak at most. A 6 oz steak before cooking in case of any doubt, and as I had it medium rare it wouldn't have reduced too much in the cooking anyway. I was tired and hungry so i didn't bother complaining. It left a poor impression and I wouldn't go back. Small things matter. Collapse

Checking in and out was quick, pleasant and smooth. Based on my stays, I prefer the rooms on the higher floors. Rooms are large, well maintained and looks good. Bathroom is excellent, smells fresh and clean (both are very important criteria to me as some hotels don't put much effort on this), with high-end toiletries. My main favorite part here is the breakfast, as they have a nice selection of hot breakfast, with a great view of the garden. I love their (possibly home-made) peanut butter, and after a few days, the guys there already knew that I would be asking for this. Also got a well-priced corporate rate after the first stay. Very impressed with the overall condition of the place. Will I be back? Definitely! Collapse

This is a lovely comfortable relaxing hotel with pretty interiors in gorgeous rooms and very good staff. The two areas that need improvement are the spa and breakfast. The spa area seems much smaller and older than spas in other hotels. There is a nice jacuzzi and sauna but the overall feel isn't of a luxury hotel and the changing rooms are small and definitely need a serious upgrade. I didn't have a treatment so can't speak of that. The breakfast room is beautiful, my pancakes were fab but the cold food choice wasn't great (in comparison, see the breakfast menu for the much cheaper Castlewood House Dingle!) Collapse
