We just checked out of our 16th floor suite at The Fairmont in San Francisco after a 6 nights stay and we loved every minute of it. The suite in the tower building had a spectacular panoramic view of the city from the Golden Gate Bridge to the illuminated Bay Bridge with the Marina, Fisherman's Wharf and business district in between. The suite even had a telescope to hone in on the streets below. There was a separate living and dining area with a flat screen TV, a desk, ample seating and a coffee table. The bedroom had side tables equipped with lamps with power and USB outlets on its base and reading lights attached to the headboard. A closet and 3 large drawers in the bedroom provided ample storage in addition to the closet in the entryway. There was also a wall mounted TV in the room. The king size bed provided restful nights sleep. Pillows and bedding were fresh and clean as you would expect. The bathroom was large with a separate tub - deep for those who like to soak and a glass encased shower with a convenient ledge for your shampoo bottles. The single sink vanity didn't have the counter space I would have expected for a large bathroom however I did take advantage of the ledge at the foot of the tub for extra ledge space. The hotel boasts its history with framed photos of its past famous guests throughout the corridors along with artwork and display cabinets. You can't help but take a closer look. There are plenty of places to sit and relax on the main floor especially at the front lobby. During the day we took some time to sit out on the garden terrace with the soothing sound of the fountain and whispers of the leaves. At night, the garden is covered with a soft glow from lights stringed from the trees. The Laurel Court Restaurant & Bar offered a pared menu. We dined there once for dinner and twice for breakfast. We were out touring the city so we missed afternoon tea during our stay. We dined at The Tonga Room one evening and had a great time. They offered an island inspired menu to match thier drinks and tiki decor. The live band played from a "boat" in the middle of a pool of water sheltered from the rain and thunder during their set. It will teleport you to the carribean if you let it ;) Conveniently located south of the business district, the Fairmont had many transportation options from the cable cars steps away, taxis waiting at their post and a Hertz rental desk right off reception. Parking is available but for a fee. We paid $70+ per night. Many tour companies provide free hotel pick up and drop off services at this hotel. Overall, I would consider our stay a success. I would suggest those who wish to stay here join the Fairmont club and book early for better nightly rates. Monitoring their website pays and they honour promotions if it betters the one you've already booked. Collapse

They surprised us with a chocolate plate our first night. What a treat! Special thanks to Jennifer at the front desk. Collapse
Grandiose setting; slow bar

The obvious lack of professionalism and apparent lack of bar experience appeared awkward at this upscale bar. When compared to professional bars, this one was surprisingly slow and elementary. Plenty to improve.

This accommodation is simply stunning but the service that we received did not match the environment. It is in a fabulous location (particularly if you like hills) with public transport very easily accessible. We had a few disappointments like needing to phone room service three times for linen for a pre-arranged fold out couch. Even then, it was delivered by one staff member who stated that he wouldn't make the bed but could call a member of the house keeping team. Needless to say, after waiting for two hours, we did it ourselves. The rooms are grand, the beds are comfortable but the walls are rather thin with the couple in the next room arguing while their baby continued crying well after midnight. Overall, we had a lovely stay but things such as the main lifts not working for three days did surprise us in a hotel of this calibre. Collapse

I was in SF for meeting in the Financial District so location was ideal. This is one of the nicest properties in SF. Historical feel and old school luxury hotel ambiance. I was there for 4 nights and felt as if I was home. Most staff referenced me by name and made sure I knew I was appreciated. The room was large for SF and both bedding and bathroom were awesome. I spent some quality time in the bar and can vouch for their whiskey selections. There are more modern hotels in SF but, in my experience, this one is the best all around choice. Fairmount does a great job in catering to business travelers. The gym is decent, with nice locker rooms. They even had a pair of New Balance running shoes for me to borrow since I forgot mine.
