Stayed here on a business trip, unimpressed and not sure I would go back. It was not terrible, but not what I expected from a 4 star hotel. The shower head spray was wide and a thin mist which could not be adjusted so that was irritating. My mini-fridge was not working, and the room was cold and there were no extra blankets in the room. I had to turn the thermostat up to 79 degrees to get the room to a comfortable temperature in which I could sleep. I was too busy to complain. I did have a 2 decent meals in the Tap room but even the atmosphere of there was not as nice as I would expect even if it is a Pub type restaurant. Just ok. Collapse

The staff were really nice and helpful. The meeting space is not easy to navigate. Good location. Gym is really inadequate for this type of property and in a location that is not conducive for business meetings because you have to pass through areas where attendees pass. Great views from some rooms (Park and water). Lobby bar is not warm or welcoming and too public. Collapse

This hotel promised to be lovely because it is a "Farimont". Absolutely not! The property is run down, shabby and in desperate need of refurbishing and refurnishing. There was only one attendant at the front desk; unacceptable for a downtown Chicago hotel. The breakfast room was also severely understaffed. The beds were old and uncomfortable. Shame on you Fairmont!! Collapse

Note: This review reflects my most recent stay, as I was a returning guest to the property. The room was as expected, sizable with the standard amenities - large desk, flat-screen television, and sitting area and table, hidden mini-bar, safe, closet, bathroom with both tub and stand-up shower, and housekeeping did a good job overall. The problem with this stay was with the service experienced during the check-in and check-out process. Upon check-in, I asked if there was availability at the Fairmont Gold level and was confirmed for the upgrade and given a room that frankly, should have been the deepest discounted room offered to the general public. The bed was immediately next to the door and the view was of a grim rooftop. Unlike other Fairmont Gold offerings - which I have experienced in Canada, the U.S. and the Middle East - Chicago places its arguably most exclusive service and experience on lower floors with rooms (in our case) that appear to be in desperate need of renovation. After phoning the front desk to ask for a room on a high floor (30 or above), we were told that it was not possible. At least in the view of the front desk, once you are upgraded to Gold, your options actually become more limited as you are not permitted to room elsewhere but within the confines of this supposed "hotel within a hotel." Thus, if we wanted to enjoy the lounge and whatever other benefits Fairmont Gold entitled us to, we had to stay in a room on one of the 3 lower floors which housed this "hotel within a hotel" - which, judging by the carpet and hallways, was just like our room, in desperate need of an upgrade. We returned to the front desk to speak to a manager who was patronizingly obnoxious to us. Sincerity is not an attribute that must come naturally to him. He kept offering us the Millennium Park Suite as the only option by which we could access the Fairmont Gold lounge as a guest on a different floor. Clearly, if we wanted to sign up for a room that cost close to US $1000.00/night, we would have done so at the outset. We asked to forego the Gold experience simply to have a room on a high floor, which was granted. The check-out process was also disappointing in that a request for an extension of one-hour for check-out would not be honored, notwithstanding my Fairmont President's Club membership. It is easy to infer that Accor's purchase of the Fairmont brand has resulted in a decidedly downgraded customer experience, were it not for the fact that we had a remarkably different experience at our last Fairmont stay in Tremblant in January 2017. Unfortunately, we likely will forego brand loyalty on our next visit to Chicago, and try another property as there certainly is no shortage of them in The Windy City. Collapse

The main positive about our stay at the Fairmont Millennium Park was the service staff -- they were friendly, quick, and helpful. In brief, the hotel has seen better days. The hallways and rooms are very worn and a bit battered around the edges. The furniture in the hotel room, including the beds, was very weathered and well past its prime. The fixtures in the bathrooms were full of dust and dirt (they are embedded high up into the ceiling, so clearly cannot be cleaned during the every day service). The beds were comfortable, though mine was clearly bowed in the middle from repeated use. Overall, the room was quite clean, and we were comfortable, but I would definitely stay elsewhere in Chicago. The neighborhood is quite quiet on the weekend, and the nearby coffee shops serve the business community, and so they are shuttered on the weekend. Collapse
