The Evripides is situated in the heart of Athens close to the Acropolis, the main shopping area and within easy reach of many attractions such as museums and galleries. All the main sights are within walking distance. A great place to be when you want to sight see and walk around in Plaka. There is also a metro station nearby for those who want to explore the whole city. The hotel offers a marvellous view of the Acropolis, the Lycabettus mount and a general panoramic view of Athens from its roof garden. Furthermore, it provides comfort and graceful services for its guests in a modern seven stores building, a friendly atmosphere and very reasonable prices.

We booked this hotel because it was highly reviewed on hotels.com, booking.com, and trip advisor. After having stayed there, I do not understand the high reviews and will not stay there ever again. Let me start with the positives. Low price, good location meaning a short walk to the Plakka area and many of the historical sights, and a free breakfast. These are the only positives. Now onto the negatives. While a few reviewers had mentioned the seedy neighborhood surrounding the hotel, I did not understand how run down the neighborhood was until I actually walked through it with my wife every evening for 3 days. Many businesses are closed. There is graffiti everywhere(which is common in most of Greece). It is a low income, ethnically diverse area and we found that noisy/drunk residents would party and yell sometimes late at and into the night. This made for a poor night of sleep for us every night. While, I was not concerned particularly for our physical safety, I was still looking around at all times when walked through the neighborhood. The free breakfast served by the hotel was actually the worse breakfast we had in our month long travels through Turkey and Greece. Very limited and commercial offerings. Nothing was particularly good and this was all served in a very tight area where people had to jostle to get breakfast items since the space is so tight. I would suggest a different layout for the breakfast area so it causes less stress for customers and to offer at least a few higher quality food items. Now for the worst part of our stay at the Euripides. When we actually checked in, we were offered a corner room, I think 211, which was a nice room since it was off the main street meaning quieter at night and it offered a double door system with a separate door in between the bedroom/living area and the bathroom. This also was quieter for us since we were right across from the elevator. During our first afternoon there, my wife noticed 3 or 4 ants crawling up one of the walls. We killed them but then saw more ants crawling up the wall. When I called down to the front desk, the clerk advised that he could either switch our rooms or bring up a bug killer. We looked the room, so we asked for the bug spray. He brought it up a few minutes later while I was looking under the bed where I saw at least 25 more ants. I realized that this room had an infestation problem. The clerk did not even check to see if there were ants. He just handed me the bug spray. He actually looked irritated that he had to come up to our room. When my wife asked him why or if he was not going to spray, his sarcastic response was that he could not be in two places at once. I took that to mean that it was more important for him to be downstairs at the front desk than it was for him to help us with the problem we were having. The clerk left and I tried spraying a little bit but I noticed a huge recessed area behind the headboard that I could not spray into because it was blocked by the wooden headboard. We ended up switching rooms to a noisier room that had a particularly dank and moist odor coming from the bathroom. After a noisy and sleepless first night, I asked the same clerk if he had any empty rooms that were quieter. He advised all the rooms were booked even though I saw many available keys. When I checked the hotels.com website, it still showed at least 3 or 4 rooms available for that night. In summary, I will never stay at this hotel again and cannot recommend it to anyone else. The negatives clearly outweigh the positives. Our customer service experience involving the ants was terrible and I really believe that were not able to switch rooms even though rooms were avaialbe. Spend another 10 to 20 dollars and stay at a better location. Reviews for this place are way too high. It should be rated 2 to 3 stars at the most. Collapse

I normally stay here when in Athens, and this visit was no exception. They've now opened the rooftop, which has a fantastic panoramic view of Athens, including a great view of the Acropolis. So even when in a room that doesn't have a view of the Acropolis, it barely matters since you can come up here and enjoy the lounging chairs and the view. And as usual the staff was helpful and nice; the prices have gone up somewhat, but are still reasonable. The neighborhood still can feel iffy, but I did not feel unsafe there, and it's walking distance to the vibrant Gazi area (for weekend nightlife), as well as to Monastiraki metro. Collapse

First, I have to disagree with the reviews that disparage the location of this hotel. We never felt unsafe there. There is a lot of graffiti in the area, but that's just how Athens is. However, this hotel is just a few blocks from a great neighborhood and walking distance to everything, as well as an easy subway ride from the airport with no train changes. The staff were very friendly and helpful and fluent in English. The buffet style breakfast was very good and the coffee was great. We would definitely stay here again. Collapse

The rooms are nice, spacious enough and very clean. The stuff is very kind and helpful! We had a cancelled flight but had booked a non-refundable room. We didn't manage to visit the hotel that night but when we appeared the next day - the manager just hosted us without charging us extra money! The nice receptionist gave us detailed instructions and recommendations on places to see and visit. The view from the roof-top terrasse is awesome! If we need to stay in Athens again, would definitely choose Evripides Hotel again. Collapse
