Situated a 5min walk from the beach but for a more "vibrant" neighbourhood you'd have to go further down the beach (more towards the marina). It was evident we were more in the locals area than the touristy area. Not necessarily a bad thing but we struggled to find a simple "corner shop/mini mart" for water, nibbles etc Very nice entrance lobby. Very arty, clean, modern... Not wow but nice! Good start. Reception The staff were friendly on arrival. Checked in (and out) with no issues. Hoorah! Bedroom We were in room 210. I have slept on floors more comfortable than this bed. Absolutely no give in them whatsoever. Squeaky metal frame that resembled that of a camping bed. It was clearly the same in most rooms as we could hear squeaks throughout the night. Uncomfortable is an understatement. If we hadn't prepaid we would have looked at another hotel and we did in fact consider it after the first night when waking up with major neck and backache... With that said the room was clean. Air con and spare bedding available. Not the greatest view but not overlooked. Bathroom The bath had seen better days. Around the edges were quite a bit of mildew/black mould. The bin lid was broken (minor but you think they'd replace/fix it as they're emptying it everyday?) and the shower gel dispenser on the wall decided to fall off on day 2. Whilst showering the water felt the need to get REALLY hot sporadically. The unit made a strange buzzing noise as a warning that this was going to happen which mean I only got burnt once; other half got burnt a couple times as he forgot... Annoying but he'll live. Just be careful. Hair dryer provided and toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste). There was also a bidet opposite the toilet. So close that if you're tall your knees will knock it. We took a couple bottles from the minibar costing only €2ea which I think is very reasonable for a hotel minibar. Side note Don't order from the bar downstairs unless you have an hour or more to kill! Snacks are limited and it is usually unmanned so you have to phone the reception (which is only a few steps away) to tell them to come over. If you go over to the reception face to face they tell you to phone... We ordered a couple cups of tea and a couple sandwiches which took nearly 45mins to come. To top it off, one of the sandwiches was the wrong one! After waiting so long, we couldn't be bothered to change it. I must clarify, there are quite a few options on the room service/bar menu but what is actually available is a different story. For us on that evening it was only pizza and sandwiches. Eco observation Daily turn down service and fresh towels provided. Again I think with most up to date hotels, to be kinder to the environment, they give you the option to keep the same towel throughout your stay. This wasn't an option here- random but just an observation. Recommend? It hasn't been the worst hotel overall but I value my spine and a good night sleep so in that respect it wasn't great. Then again it was clean which I suppose for just a long weekend "top trumps" the rock hard bed. Be prepared to sightsee with a stiff back. If we were staying for 5 days or more I'd say go elsewhere. The hotel was looking very 'tired' and I would not describe it as 4 star. The staff were helpful and friendly. On arrival the air con was not working and the maintenance man told me I had set it too low, only to be advised on my third trip to reception that the air con had failed on the whole floor. This was fixed by the time I returned that evening. Breakfast was reasonable with a good choice. The price was cheaper than other four star hotels in the area so I guess you get what you pay for. There is nothing special about this hotel or its location. We thought the dinner price was reasonable at 18 euros per head for three courses drinks excluded but were then charged 15 euros per head for breakfast which was pretty basic and self service. On leaving the hotel we were then charged 2.20 euros per person per day 'tourist tax', so Barcelona want you to visit their city but then charge you for the privilege of doing so! We found the nearby restaurants poor quality food, poor service and high prices. Not impressed! Collapse
