I was a non-French-speaking single American woman wanting to take a weeklong shopping, dining, museum-hopping vacation to Paris. I booked my flights and my hotel … Read More separately, and was out for a personal adventure. Fortunately, contrary to urban myth, the French were nothing but helpful to me during my entire travels. I arrivedat this hotel and checked in to find a staff who spoke English; the bellman took me to my balcony room, which was clean and nicely appointed, and BTW , I could walkout onto the balcony and look at the Arc De Triomphe from the side. I was immediately smitten. From this vantage point, I could walk a half a block and be on theChamps de Elysees for primo shopping and outside dining , or walk (and I'm a walker), to La Place de Concorde (where people met the guillotine, but is now a lovelypublic park) and The Louvre or the Tuilleries..or I could just jump on the metro and go to whichever neighborhood I wanted to wind up in....and I wound up at PereLachaise Cemetary, where Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, et al are interred. I spent a day in the cemetery; it's beautiful and peaceful. And I got lost one day andwound up by La Conciergerie, where Marie Antoinette spent her last days in quiet contemplation before her ....well you know....(and BTW, I'm thinking History mighthave given her a bad rap...) I have gone far afield from a hotel review, but this hotel allowed me to walk to most of the places that were important on my trip, andwherever I couldn't walk , I took an inexpensive and self-explanatory metro ride. The hotel was clean, comfortable, centrally-located, with nice staff who spoke enoughEnglish to get me around, and there was a continental breakfast. Business center computer access/ WIFI had a charge, but it was nominal. I have plans to go hereagain. Collapse
