I couldn't have been more impressed by the Elms - it has a 3 star rating, but we have stayed in many 5 star hotels which are not as good. Wonderful facilities, so family friendly with great attention to detail. The children wanted to stay a fortnight, but our one night seemed more like a short holiday as it was so relaxing. We will definitely return - one of the best hotels we have stayed at in the uk. Collapse

The Elms looked picture perfect when we arrived as the Christmas lights & decorations had just been put up. We were given a warm welcome & shown to our room & informed about the recent & ongoing refurbishments. The reception area, bar & restaurant have lost the chintz of older Trip Advisor photos and now look sumptuous. We enjoyed the spa facilities before dinner, particularly the outside hot tub. Then a drink in the gorgeous bar with complimentary appetisers including oysters. The service at dinner was friendly & professional and the food outstanding. A lovely stay & we would definitely return for another visit. Collapse

We had our wedding at The Elms hotel ten years ago yesterday. We had exclusive use of the house and thoroughly enjoyed our day. It seemed fitting that we should book our tenth anniversary at the hotel. We booked our stay in January 2017. On arrival yesterday (14.45), the entrance parlour was being decorated for Christmas. There was nowhere to sit and relax and begin our stay. However we were allowed into our room early. After depositing our bags to our room we ventured into the Library Bar. This room was also in a state of disorganization, getting ready for Christmas decoration. We were advised by the new owner to take a seat where we liked, all would be sorted shortly. The lovely lady behind the bar invited us in and took our order. Eventually, all calmed down and we had a beautiful afternoon and evening at The Elms. Our dinner was served on the opposite wing to the dinner room. This was due to the new owners holding a private function in the usual dining hall. This did not affect our evening's service in anyway. We were congratulated on our anniversary by all staff although none had realised we married at The Elms. The next morning I was thoroughly looking forward to breakfast. Sadly, this is where it all went wrong for the hotel. The new owners arrived in the breakfast hall shortly after we had. We had already given our tea/coffee order but waited 15 minutes for this to arrive. The breakfast maitre de had checked we had given this order but failed to check we had received it. She came and asked if we were guests' of "last night's fish supper" to which we responded "no". We were then ignored again whilst she merrily sucked up to the new owners and their guests. We had to ask for someone to take our order, after 20 minutes waiting. 25 minutes later our breakfast arrived after having to chase where it was. After such a lovely day yesterday the breakfast service was poor beyond belief. I understand the new owners need to build up their new clientele but please respect your other paying guests in the process or ensure your staff do! We have always praised the venue for being fabulous but you fell short of this by a long way this morning! Collapse
Hopefully will be 5 stars soon

We just returned from a two night break at The Elms. On arrival we were greeted at the door and got a very friendly welcome and tour of the facilities by the Sicilian gentleman on reception. We used the spa facilities which were very nice and not too busy during our visit. The food is a real highlight at this hotel. We dined from the a la Carte menu on the first night which was excellent. Aiden was a great host. The second night we had the seven course taster menu. The chef is clearly very talented and put together a very interesting menu. The highlight was the oyster course. There was a good selection at breakfast and we can recommend the pancakes. The room was a little bit tired (torn curtains, faulty refrigerator and bathroom door wouldn't close) but the hotel is undergoing renovation. This did mean that some areas were inaccessible during our stay, which was a bit limiting at times. However we understand that these works are almost complete. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. Once a few issues have been resolved, we hope to be back. Collapse

An excellent Sunday lunch. Perfect service, amazing food in lovely surroundings. At the front door there was a ramp up to the first step but no ramp at the next step of the same height, WHY? The steps were about 2 inches and for anyone pushing a wheelchair, self propelling or on a disabled scooter they were still steps. The disabled toilet was near the restaurant and very accessible. I would love to return and make use of the Spa facilities. Collapse

We had a very enjoyable weekday family lunch in he restaurant. Good food and good service in pleasant surroundings. A few weeks later I received my card statement and was rather concerned to find an amount debited from a company called Gemini Properties UK Ltd, whom I had never heard of. After tracking back on my movements around the time the account was debited, I finally checked The Elms website. Right at the bottom of the page in small letters it said Gemini Properties UK. Unfortunately as the bill had been split three ways I had no receipt check against and for some reason I had not picked up the card payment receipt. Come on guys surely its not that difficult to set up a separate account called The Elms or are you changing your name to Gemini (probably not good for business)? Collapse
