I couldn't have been more impressed by the Elms - it has a 3 star rating, but we have stayed in many 5 star hotels which are not as good. Wonderful facilities, so family friendly with great attention to detail. The children wanted to stay a fortnight, but our one night seemed more like a short holiday as it was so relaxing. We will definitely return - one of the best hotels we have stayed at in the uk. Collapse

Old, tired & generally run down hotel. Evening meal was good but breakfast average. Staff were friendly and helpful.

At 7 pm we had NO water, hot or cold and had to wash our hands, brush teeth etc with bottled water. Reception said too many people had used all the hot water from the tank so we were unable to shower or bath before dinner! Didn't give a reason for having no cold water though, not even a trickle which was bizarre. Spa facilities are small, 4 people can squeeze into either the sauna or steam room. Lockers in male changing were temperamental when locking and soap holders in showers were hanging from the wall. Along with missing tiles in the jacuzzi, stained carpets on stairway, this hotel was generally run down. We were partly compensated financially on checkout but would of preferred to have the quality stay it promised. Collapse

We visited the elms on sunday 12th March. Was shown to our table immediately even though we would have preferred a drink at the bar first, we were half an hour early after all. We were seated and had our meal which was nice but a shame the vegetables consisted of one carrot baton. Yes one. Two pieces of broccoli and one crispy piece of parsnip. Thank God we had at least three small roast potatoes. We had to ask for bread rolls even though there were bread plates on the table. We also had to ask for a wine menu. When we paid our bill. My father was paying as it was his treat. He unfortunately did not look at the bill and when he got home he realised he had been charged a service charge. He also gave the waiter a £10.00 tip which he very unprofessionally stuck in his pocket immediately. My father asked if that tip was going to be shared with the waiting staff. He did say it was. I have been in the catering business for years and my father for at least 50 and I am pretty sure the service charge should have been pointed out to us before hand and written on the menu. Will not go back there again. Such a shame, was such a nice place to go. The staff looked miserable except for one Chinese (apologies if I have got wrong part of the world) lady who was very welcoming and excitable as she showed someone round hotel. Collapse

Visited recently for a half-day spa experience for my sisters birthday. Facilities were lovely and staff all very helpful and everything very organised, but a serious lack of space to do any relaxing between treatments or by the pools. There just weren't enough loungers by the pools to accommodate everyone using the facilities so unless you were having a treatment, or were in the pool, you couldn't sit with your group to chat and relax as planned. There were only 4 of us so not a huge group! We stayed in the relaxation/post treatment room for a while which was lovely but plenty of other people similarly looking for a place to relax popping in. Perhaps it was just a particularly busy day. Changing rooms also very busy and not really big enough for the number of people using them. The table with your name card on arrival was a lovely touch. Very nice, but for the price needs a few more loungers so the experience can be enjoyed to the full as planned, or limit the number of bookings. Collapse

I attended the funeral of a friend who had lived in the area for some time and assumed as this was their local well known hotel that the management and staff would go out of their way to provide a suitable wake. On arrival at the hotel after a lovely service in the beautiful nearby baroque church at Great Witley we were welcomed with tea and coffee. A short while later the sandwiches and French fries arrived. The French fries were fresh and warm but what had happened to the sandwiches since they were made? I can only assume they had been made the previous day, refrigerated overnight and the taken out into a warm room. They were dry and tasteless on very poor quality bread. Eventually small cakes were brought in however by that time a substantial number of mourners had left to go home. I felt really sorry for the German gentleman in the party who had come such a long way to attend the funeral and was about to return to the airport. What must he have thought of a well known English county hotel with a star rating? Collapse

I've just returned from a lovely 3 day break with my 8 year old daughter. We loved every minute of it! The room was beautiful and spacious, the food was delicious, the spa/pool was wonderful and the whole break was just lovely. But the thing that made the holiday so wonderful and relaxing was the staff. They were so friendly and welcoming and they really made our stay. My daughter was particularly delighted with Bailey the puppy, Bella the gorgeous little dog and George the cat. Being able to take Bailey out for a walk round the grounds absolutely made the holiday for us. Thank you so much to everyone who made us feel so welcome and relaxed. We will most certainly be back again! Collapse

Superbreak star ratings are given as a guide to help you choose between our hotels and do not necessarily relate to those awarded by other organisations.
They symbolise the level of service and range of facilities that you can expect at the property; ranging from 1 star - hotels with the simplest range of facilities, to five stars - luxury hotels with a wider range of facilities.
Please note that different countries have different standards and star ratings may differ according to the country where the hotel is located.
