In an elegant district in the heart of Nice, just a five-minute walk from the beach and shopping street, the Ellington has an air of casual refinement, a subtle blend of styles. Handsome architecture, typical of 1920's Nice, a patio with a hint of southern Spain, moulded ceilings, rich wood floors and designer furniture. The Ellington Hotel opened in January 2007, offering 110 rooms in 3 categories: Classic with a Sahara or Oriental look; Deluxe, featuring red silk curtains and rosewood furniture and Executive rooms in Louis 16th-style.

Overall a very nice stay. This is a decent building and lovely breakfast room, bar and nice bedrooms and bathrooms - bathroom freshly restored. Traditional long windows and curtains and outlook to street is pleasant. The breakfast is excellent, and probably one of the better offerings we have ever seen in a French hotel. The breakfast staff are attentive. The room has some air conditioning efficiency issues - we ended up opening the window so we could breathe! I imagine this might be an issue in July/August so needs some attention. Location is amazing - 5 minutes walk west is high street shops. 10 minutes walk south is the promenade. 10 minutes walk east is the old Town. Overall, a nice place to stay (we were there 4 days). There is a disconnect in the quality of some of the staff i.e. some of the staff are letting their colleagues down by not paying enough attention to guests, checking their mobile phones etc. (this is a 4 star hotel after all, apparently). I would like to pay particular note to the young lady reception Team Leader, as well as the older Door Man - apologies for not knowing their names - they both went absolutely out of their way, above and beyond for us, and to correct a mistake that affected us on check-in. They are both the quality of staff a 4 star hotel should have, and their colleagues should perhaps look to them for inspiration. Thank you both. You made us feel like valued customers. Because of you two we rate the Hotel very good on service. Collapse
Loved it so much, we came back.

A second visit, as the first was so lovely. Availed ourselves of happy hour. And the terrace. Staff still super-friendly. Breakfast still awesome. Same minor quibbles, rooms on the small side and little tired. Explored more of Nice. Suggest a walk to the Matisse Museum and the lovely grounds of the church next door. Hire a veto bleu too. Also, many god restaurants up towards the main station. Looking forward to returning! Collapse

Stayed here for 7 nights with a tour group. The rooms are small but hey--it's an old building. The bathroom was roomy and remodeled from what it would have been originally. There was a closet with shelves and a room safe. Also a refrigerator under the desk in the room. Our room overlooked the courtyard and was very quiet with the window closed. Open for ventilation and you did hear a little neighborhood noise but nothing disturbing. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient and felt safe and we were able to walk easily to other activities. Our breakfast was included with our tour. Plenty of choices including eggs, cheese, hot and cold meats, fruit, cereal, yogurt, juices, coffee, tea and a VARIETY of breads and pastries. There is a nice bar with seating there and in an adjacent room off the lobby. Collapse
Would have been a great stay!

Arrived at the Ellington to be welcomed by two really lovely receptionists. Given key to a pleasant but small twin roon with a little balcony however, when opening balcony door was greeted by a truly massive building site adjoining the hotel to the left of our room. The noise was unpleasant as was the view however, on going back to reception we were told our room would be changed later in the day, so we took a tram and bus to Monaco which was very easy to negotiate and was about an hour from Nice. On our return we were given a larger room and although without a balcony it was much quieter. We booked breakfast at reception for our stay, taking advantage of the 50% discount offer of €9.50 which was good value for a very acceptable breakfast. We stayed in the nice bar a couple of evenings taking advantage of the long "Happy Hour" of 5-8pm! We found all the staff so helpful with advice and directions. On our departure day having paid our bill but not having our taxi for the airport booked till 5.15 we left our luggage at the hotel and went into Nice. We got caught in a rain storm so heavy it completely soaked us to the skin. We arrived back at the hotel like to two drowned rats and asked if we could use their courtesy room to dry off and change our soaked clothes, a receptionist we had only seen once before said simply "No you have checked out!" We explained we had left our luggage, were soaked and freezing but the answer remaind a firm No! We were told we could use the hotel toilet to change. We are two retired ladies, I am disabled and frankly we were disgusted as we knew they had rooms not being used as they completely overlooked the building site. My friend went to reception and again said I was soaked but they didn't even offer a towel. We will not recommend or return which is a great shame! Collapse

Nice hotel, walking distance from the sea front. Really lovely staff. They even gave us drinks on the house when we checked out because it was my birthday. We will definitely stay here again next time.
