Better than you might expect! No pretensions at being anything more, but still does better than many with the same rating. Accommodation is good, simple, but good size rooms and comfortable. Suits too! Staff are friendly and helpful. Poolside is busy, but never seemed to be an issue, with beds specifically. Why? Because there is a strict 10am rule. They are chained up and you have to wait, but it works. Food. Well, here is the true three stars! Dull, repetitive and a blit bland. If you stay all inclusive, consider eating out at night, but use the inhouse service for breakfast and lunch and of course the drinks at any time. However, be aware they charge a lot for proper brands and the local stuff is a bit lacking, to be polite. Drinks out are cheap! A pint of decent local grog is only a pound! The bars on the front are many and varied and will have something to suit most tastes. So, overall, far better than expected, with the exception of the food. It's not bad, just a bit school dinners. They need to re organise the food service and have it both ends as too for the coffee and drinks self service facility. The smaller, quieter pool should be adults only. It would probably improve sales! Collapse

We first stayed here June 2015 and could honestly say it was the best holiday we had ever had. The room were lovely, the staff fantastic and pools were great, I didn't think better was possible. I was so excited about coming back and I wasn't let down. This say was even better, the staff reminded us, we arrived our room wasn't ready for an hour that was fine, we stored our luggage in the luggage room and went and had a drink by the pool and then lunch and then our room was ready. Last year we were half board and this year all inclusive, it is really worth paying the extra. The pools are lovely the staff reminded us and made us so welcome back. The entertainment was better than last year and we meet a friend in Tenerife and he was allowed to visit us and come and join us in the pool and they were very happy with this. We absolutely love this hotel, the staff are amazing and the location is fantastic. Collapse

Holiday in a nutshell .. Cons: Reception staff are rude to say the least, very unhelpful and customer service is non existent, if you have any concerns or problems contact your rep! We travelled with Thomson and our rep was fab and very helpful! E block is very noisy as your balcony overlooks a very busy road, however apart from the noise the apartment itself is lovely, just a shame about its location. However my friend stayed in E106 and had multiple problems with her key card not working throughout the holiday and the delightful reception staff's response was it was her fault for not being careful and there's nothing they can do! I do recommend requesting a 1st or 2nd floor apartment as the gates don't lock next E block. Food ok very repetitive, had far better all inclusive, expect chicken, fish, pasta and rice everyday for dinner. We had one themed night which was a curry night and that was lovely, they need to spice things up a bit and get a bit more of a variety going on.. also I noticed not an awful lot of options for children. Entertainment Ok for a 3* a wide variety of shows, seating area is too small and all inclusive bar finishes at 11 which is poor in my opinion. Bar staff are great very friendly and hardworking! Pool areas Small but ok, cleanliness is great, plenty of sunbeds but in busy seasons can imagine the pool areas becoming very cramped. All inclusive Is it really all inclusive? No snack bars in the afternoon. All inclusive stops at 11 and on the day of check out they cut your band off soon as you check out which in my opinion is wrong. We paid for 7 days but as we were late arriving on the first day we only really got 5 days all inclusive. Pros Free Internet wifi which works fine, just have to keep logging back in sometimes. Beds are super comfy with plenty of pillows and fresh towels provided when your rooms cleaned. Great location central to everything with lots of free buses and excursions near by, short walk to the beach! Good size drinks and bar staff take care when serving them. Hotel and grounds well looked after and clean. Free upgrade from a studio to an apartment all though the studios are in better locations than some of the apartments (E block) Tips, don't book anything other than a studio as it saves you money and 9 times out of 10 you will be upgraded to an apartment. Just request a 1st floor room and state you don't want to stay in E block!! Overall a good holiday but be aware it's near the mountains so can become quite a cloudy spot if the weather isn't on your side. I wouldn't return to this hotel as for the price we paid we have stayed in far better but Tenerife is a must go! Collapse

greeted by a grumpy man who wouldn't leave his desk in the backroom to come and speak to us directly. The hotel felt claustrophobic, every morning we had to wait till 10am to be allowed to nab a sunbed to lie on (losing about an hour or 2 of key sunbathing time) and then to top it off our money was taken from our room by one of the cleaners, an issue the front desk could only respond with by blaming us for not using their 30 Euro Safe... Stayed for one week with family, including 2 year old daughter. Had a brilliant time and the hotel definitely exceeded my expectations. Pros Room was excellent, great size, I had ground floor in E block which had an enormous balcony. Rooms kept very clean and the facilities in the room were everything you could need. Food- excellent, couldnt fault- desserts were nicer than some ive had in 5* hotels. Lots of choice and very tasty. Hotel facilities- again very good, two good sized pools, plenty of sun lounges, nice park and kids area, the grounds were very clean and tidy. Location of the hotel is good too, right next to shopping centre. Walk to the beach is about 15 minutes (steep hill) Cons The last day rules are a bit of a joke, we paid €30 to keep a room on as we werent leaving until 5pm, we then had to pay €10pp to keep on all inclusive (thats just for lunch and drinks, if you werent leaving until later in the evening would be another €15pp for dinner)they cut your all inclusive bands off at midday which seems a bit off really especially as we didnt arrive until 9pm on the first day so technically lose a day of your all inclusive. Entertainment area isnt big enough, the acts do the best they can on a tiny little stage but can imagine in the busier summer months it is a bit manic in the evenings as the area surrounding the stage isnt big enough by far. All in all I really enjoyed staying at the el duque and would definitely return and recommend to others. Would say they arent far from a 4* rating and would be interested to know what has kept them from getting one as from what I can tell it would be well deserved. Collapse
