We were upgraded by Thomsons to the El Duque after they stopped dealing with our original hotel. We thought we were getting a good deal as this one cost £200 a week more to stay at. Wrong. Spending an entire week trying to sleep in a room with no air con in 20+ degree heat every night was awful. I've never had such little sleep in a week. Forced to leave the rear sliding doors open to try get some form of air flow and leaving our room exposed to anybody who may happen to walk in across the linked balconies. On top of that our bedding was never changed so we were left sweating night after night in the same sheets. Food was average, typical boring Spanish food but a couple of the evenings meals were alright when they did a Mexican or Chinese theme. The real fun to be had though was on the day of leaving and being told to check out before 12 and have our all inclusive bands cut off even though our flight was at half past 10 in the evening. Then they ask for 10 Euros a head to keep your all inclusive band and a further 30 euros to keep a room in case you may want a shower. All inclusive should mean ALL inclusive. This hotel was the only negative aspect of what was a good, fun holiday with friends. Definitely would not stay here again. Collapse

We were a group of 6 adults and 2 children. Arriving in reception the man told us to form a line so other guests could check in-we were the only ones there! We had a room on ground floor right next to pool and wanted to change as we don't smoke and as people smoke round pool we didn't want to not be able to sit on patio. Went to see manager, Jose, and when we asked to change room he asked in an aggressive manner why. He was told smoke aggravates my sinuses and he seemed not to believe what I was saying, telling me he had heard it all. He did reluctantly change the room though. We were there for a week. We have stayed in other 3 star hotels and I thought the food was really good for a 3 star hotel. Both pools were lovely. The staff on bar work really hard, the cleaners were in everyday and they were all lovely, the maintenance people were also lovely the management could learn from them. My husband developed an ear infection and we had to get a Dr. The man on reception that night, Michael, could not have done more for us he was brilliant. As per some other reviews, we were told we could not have a late check out, but we got the rep involved, as the manager was so rude it wasn't worth speaking with him, and were allowed because of my husband at a cost of 30 euros but we had to move rooms. The all inclusive finishes at midday despite the fact we had arrived late so missed the whole day of food which we had of course paid for and had paid for the last day but only got breakfast. On the day I went to reception and spoke with a lady, I had forgotten to bring the 30 euros, she said that was ok and I could do it later. We moved rooms and I went to the pool with the rest of my family whilst my husband stayed in room. He was called repeatedly for this money and he had to come and get me. I went to reception and he went back to room but it had been locked. The lady on reception looked angry as I had not had my band cut off, but I had been to reception when getting new key and checking out old room and the same woman had not done it. My husband then came in as he had been locked out and we had asked to speak to manager. He said that they needed the 30 euros befor midday, I had been before midday and she had told me later and anyway I told him we would have had to bring key back for room so was not an issue. I mentioned to him about the food that as you pay for and potentially not get on first day this should be offset and he was at pains to tell me it was Jet2 policy, Jet2 told me it was hotel policy. He was having none of it. When I told him that I would give an honest review on here he asked me if I was trying to scare him, I told him no I was simply telling him what I would do. He was the rudest hotel manager I have ever met. It's a real shame as this hotel is nice, albeit you should try and opt for the air con rooms as it is really needed in the heat, it is clean, there were some cockroaches but these were being dealt with which is all you can ask, pools lovely, the beds are memory foam and really nice, the remaining staff friendly and food better than expected. The manager and some staff on reception need to learn manners and respect. Collapse

Booked with Jet2 We arrived approx 10pm and were dropped at the rear of the hotel, no clearly lit signs to reception so we followed a traveller who had been here before. Met at reception to be told we had been upgraded from our booked studio rooms to apartments free of charge and as we had missed the evening meal there was a plate of cold meat and fruit in our fridge with a bottle of mineral water. Room was lovely and spacious with veiws of both pools (block c) your typically decorated hotel room only fault with room is no Air Con but we found a local shop and purchased a fan as we had our 5 month old daughter with us and the room would have been way too hot for her. A ceiling fan in the front is the only kind of cooling offered, which to be honest circulated hot air. We were on the top floor with no lift access and a big flight of stairs so pretty inconvenient carrying a pushchair up and down them daily. Pool area well mainted and clean. We chose the quieter pool which was apparently heated but still took your breathe when getting in. Bigger pool much louder with lots of children and loud music played. Only fault was bar by quieter pool is only open July, August and September so had a short walk to get drinks. Food was standard 3* all inclusive buffet food, lots of choice but food slightly cold, i wouldnt say we had a bad meal here but not a great one either. Staff all hard working and very helpful especially bar staff. The one man on reception i found exceptionally rude and unwilling to assist, NO LATE CHECK OUT AVAILABLE although advised to check on day of departure, still told no rooms free, very hard to beleive in such a big complex. Location is great a short walk to beach front and plenty of shops with a market across the road on Thursdays and Saturdays, watch your bags around the market as lots of pick pocketing going on. Entertainment was terrible !!! You have to be seated by about 8 oclock to get a table, all inclusive finishes at 11 and the place shuts down at 12 including balcony lights which is frustrating. Security visibly present on complex which is a good thing. All in all a good family holiday and would definately come back to Costa Adeje maybe trying a different hotel. Collapse

Had to cancel hotel in Los Cristianos and re-book to El Duque. Extremely pleased with the accomodation, dining and cleanliness. Apartments large, comfortable and well appointed. Housekeeping completed efficiently and concientiously. Two very well appointed swimming pools. Wide selection of food at all meal times. Bar service extremely good. Disappointed that bottled water not included in all-inclusive and not available to buy in El Duque, though available in restaurant and at the bar for drinking.. No retail available on site for water, newspapers etc. Collapse
