We stayed at the Edison for 3 nights last weekend. It is in a fantastic location just around the corner from Time Square. On arrival I thought it looked good but didn't feel the receptionist was very helpful. We were a family of 5 with 2 rooms. We asked could we have them close together and one a twin room. We got neither! We were put on the 4th floor which was so dark and dismal when you came out of the lift. Very shabby, brown doors and basically drab. We were in room 422 and when we opened the door we were met with a dismal room. Old, shabby and paint cracking on the door to the bathroom. We had a Queen bed. There was a chest of drawers where the drawers didn't close properly. The air conditioning unit which was under the draughty window, which looked out onto more windows, wasn't working and had a wire hanging from underneath with some electrical tape holding it together. The bathroom was old and dated with the bath peeling. The door had cracks from the paint peeling on the inside. We had asked at reception on arrival for an extra bed as one of our daughters wanted to come in with us. We were told we would get a 'roll away' bed. After returning to the room some hours later we noticed some extra pillows, but no bed. But what even surprised us more was the blow out heater that was now left in the room on the chest of drawers and this was heating our room. 7 hours later at 11pm I had to go to reception and request the bed again. I also complained to a guy at reception that we were unhappy with the room and that it wasn't good enough that we had to request the bed again 7 hours later, but also that we had a blow out fan for heating. I told him I had read that some rooms weren't refurbished and was this one of them. He told me this is what we paid for! That this was a classic room and basically like it or leave it! The classic room is certainly nothing like the photos advertised. Yes this hotel is in a great location but overpriced for the room we had. Luckily for us we were out most of the time and had to only endure this for night time, which was unbearable with the fan heating zapping any air out of the room and humming all night long. This is one hotel I certainly would not be returning to again in the future. Ive been to New York a few times now and this has been the most disappointing hotel of them all and the most expensive for what we got! Make sure if you decide to book this hotel that you get what you pay for definitely check out the room first. I found the staff, (except the ladies cleaning our room, who did a great job), very rude both at reception and also some of the staff in the restaurant where we had some drinks one evening and also our breakfast on the morning we were leaving. One guy in particular was so rude as he kept walking past us while we tried to order a drink and then when someone else came in just went straight to them, even though we were the only other people at the bar......dreadful service. I have uploaded the pictures which are taken on the morning we are leaving, the room is a mess as there was little room for us to pack. But you can see what the room looks like and definitely not worth the money......my advice....STAY AWAY! Collapse

We stayed at Hotel Edison last week for 2 nights. You are steps away from Time Square! The staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in one of the renovated Signature rooms. It’s was very tastefully decorated and comfortable. The only thing lacking was counter space on the vanity. With 2 women getting ready a little more vanity area in the bathroom or in the room would have been nice. The bathroom was small but adequate otherwise. I would stay here again! Also I had been worried about the noise in such an active area on New York. We had no trouble sleeping and rarely heard any sounds from the streets below and we were on the second floor. Collapse

I've just returned from a 4 night girls trip to NY & we stayed at the Edison. The Hotel is in a great location for easy access to all the main attractions. I would recommend booking a signature room but stay clear of Room 942 if you like a quiet room - the ventilation system is right outside your window & the room's heating is horrendously noisy.(maintenance couldn't have been less interested when we reported it). The rooms were clean & ours were a good size with extremely comfortable beds. Towels are on the small side - bath towels rather than bath sheets. The Rum Bar is an experience & the Freidman restaurant is well worth a visit - great staff & food. Most of the hotel staff are friendly & helpful however, we encountered problems with one particular member of reception staff on several occasions who clearly could not have cared less about the service (or lack of ) he provided. We were given inconsistent information regarding payments which resulted in one of our party having no access to the money on her travel card & 2 of us now finding ourselves being charged credit card/conversion fees (all of which we intend to claim back !!) However, we didn't let that spoil our stay - the positives outweighed the negatives. Collapse

It’s in a good location, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Collapse

The Edison Hotel is in a fantastic location 2 mins from Times Square. When we arrived at 1pm our room wasn't ready we were told it would be ready by 3pm they can keep your cases for 50c per item. We headed out and came back at 3 to be given our room card then headed to our room. Arrived at the room and the card wouldn't open the door so we stopped a worker who confirmed the key wasn't working and to take it back down to reception. I headed back down to reception to be told your room isn't 1102 it's 1002 I said you wrote on the card 1102...... no I didn't. Someone else approached me and said I'll come back up with you to check, we headed back up and yes she had wrote the wrong number on the card, picture taken of said card for proof and taken down a floor to right room. Well opened the room door to a horrible smell of damp, on further inspection the paint was falling of the ceiling in large flakes, round the bathroom door frame was covered in what looked like damp spores. The toilet was small and very grubby. There was a massive water mark on the carpet from what looked like a radiator leak at some point. The carpet had masking tape round the pipe from the radiator and a bit iron burn on the carpet. I phoned reception to complain as we had an email to say I was to get a complementary upgrade because it was our birthdays to be told they had no availability so I told them I had it in writing from them. They told me they could move me rooms the next day and to take our luggage back down to reception and another room would be available after 3pm, so luggage back down to storage at 50c a piece and back at 3 for new room. New room on 22nd floor was lovely, spotless clean bigger bathroom 1000% better than the first room. I would definately say if your going to The Edison I would pay the extra for a signature room as it's like night and day. Complimentary house coats, shampoo, conditioner, soap, coffee machine, hairdryer and bottled water. All in all I would recommend this hotel but only if it was signature rooms I honestly would have hated it if we had to stay in the first room it was horrible grubby dingy and smelly. Collapse
