Just landed back from 6 nights at this amazing hotel, was slightly dubious after reading some of the reviews but wow, amazing. Free upgrade to signature room on the 19th floor, spacious, clean, perfect size for two people and all our luggage and shopping. Never had a problem with the lifts, never waited more than 1 minute. New restaurant and bar attached to hotel which was perfect for a nightcap every evening when we returned to hotel. Staff are very friendly, cleaners change towels and linens daily. Would highly recommend Collapse

Hotel Edison offers terrific value for money. The décor is a little shabby but the bathrooms have been updated, the room I had was quiet and warm ( in a very chilly November) and consider the number of people checking in, it functioned very well. Because of the price, expect to pay extra for things such as the business centre and luggage locker. It's real value is in it's location. 30 seconds from Times Square, 5 minutes to 6th Avenue. All the theatres are within a two minute radius and there are plenty of cheap eats in the area. The shop next door is open 24 hours a day and serves coffee and eats that you can take back to your room, should you wish to. Some people find the staff brusque, but they're genuine new Yorkers and will look after you if you need help, just remember to smile and say thank you, rather than take them for granted. The gentlemen on the front door are very helpful and have considerable local knowledge. Worth overlooking some of the ancient fittings and erratic lifts to experience a genuine slice of New York. Booked a 2 centre holiday vegas and new york through Thomas Cook so they actually chose this hotel for us... So when we arrived and saw how close to times square we were i was.. HAPPY DAYS!! excellent location and central to everything i wanted to do!! myself and my fianceé were able to walk to almost everywhere. Check in was fast and painless and I wish i could remember the mans name... Chris maybe?? if the hotel is reading this, its the man who checked us into room 521 on thursday 16th november, he said as it was our first time he was going to upgrade the room for us as they're a bit small... lovely man. Got to the room, 2 queen size beds... so we used one to unpack out cloths onto... free bottled water... safe... ironing board.... but most importantly... it was WARM... almost to warm but i loved it given how cold it was outside!!! bathroom was small but again WARM!!! its somewhere to do your business and wash so it was perfectly adequate for that bed was comfortbale We didnt use the restaurant as we had so many places we wanted to try in the 2 days we were there. Only complaint was the WiFi was shocking! kept dropping out and making us sign in and dropping again every 5 minutes, thew phone to reception didnt work either but didnt take away from the experience. The Edison Hotel is a gem. The staff is top-notch and they care about the comfort and concerns of the clientele. Any traveler can find a hotel in NYC that will give you a bed, a shower and a place to sleep, but the Edison Hotel goes the extra mile. Our room on the 17th floor was newly remodeled and we were very comfortable spending nearly a week there. The bed was easily the most comfortable we've slept in over many a year. I can't say enough about the Edison Hotel's staff. From the front desk to the ladies who clean up the room, they are polite, professional and they listen to the concerns of their clientele. The only problem we experienced was out of their control. Some bright spark got the idea to start jackhammering on 46th Street at 1:00 in the morning! This went on for three nights during our stay and I was highly upset. I went down to the front desk at 3:00 am to lodge a protest and they were very apologetic and understanding (not much they can do about the City allowing road maintenance in the wee hours of the A.M.). They offered to move us to another room facing 47th Street and they provided ear plugs to help drown out the racket. I found myself impressed by their sincere efforts to make up for a situation out of their control. It has been eight years since our last trip to NYC, but it won't be that long before we return. I highly recommend the Hotel Edison and it will remain our first choice for a short or extended stay in NYC. Collapse
