I stayed here for three nights during a business trip to Vevey and was a bit reserved after reading some of the negative reviews here but decided to give it a go. The hotel is charming and my room was really big. Yes, there were some stains on the carpet but what can you seriously expect from a hotel that is over a hundred years old? Some wear also adds to the authentic experience and it's only cosmetic anyway. My room was facing the city so the view wasn't good but the hotel is a few steps from the lake anyway. I didn't hear any noise from the other rooms during my stay and slept quite well. There were two extra pillows (softer than the ones on the bed) in the room and the iron and ironing board I requested were there for the whole stay. The room was surprisingly cold during the night but I like to sleep when it's cold so it wasn't a problem for me. I didn't eat breakfast or dinner at the hotel so can't comment on them. Cell phone reception with my provider (Salt) was horrible inside the hotel room and I had to keep the phone next to the window. The hotel staff spoke English well and checking in and out went smoothly. Collapse
Pricey but what else do you expect

This hotel is located in the heart of Montreux and has fantastic views of the alps. The hotel entrance and breakfast room are still as they were when the hotel was built and there are original features everywhere. The rooms are clean and appointed as required. The bathrooms are large with nice facilities and extra touches like free products. I have stayed in their deluxe rooms and junior suites and personally preferred the deluxe rooms. In neither rooms were there coffee making facilities (despite paying £215 per night!!) and when I asked for tea/coffee facilities they just left us with a kettle - no cups, tea, coffee, sugar or milk saying that they do not provide such facilities but we could order room service at a heft price!! Lovely hotel and location but lacking in basics. Also carpets need replacing especially on stairs and junior suites are not of equal standard. As normal I got the crap room compared to fellow travellers. Would recommend for location and breakfast - though even the breakfast menu gets boring and for CHF25 each, you do not eat that much to benefit from breakfast included. The free travel card was a plus point :-) Collapse

This lovely old hotel is charming and comfortable. I have stayed here many times in the last twenty years. But now the Eden is in need of maintenance. The carpeting and furniture are dated and worn. But the beautiful architectural details are still there. The location is the best in Montreux, sitting right on the lake. Most of the hotels are across the street. And the views from the room are spectacular. I hope the the hotel will someday be brought back to it's old glory without losing it's original details. Too many Swiss hotels have been updated in a contemporary style. And consequently it would look like any other. Collapse

So in reading some of the negative reviews I want to just say this is a old hotel, some of it has been restored and some probably is ready for an upgrade. If you don't like old hotels and want glossy modern - this isn't your spot. This hotel is however charming, has AMAZING staff and feels like a piece of history. The rooms are immaculately clean and have everything you need. The location can't be beat - right on the lake steps from the waterfront trail that leads to Chillon and beyond. It was walking distance to the ferry dock and pretty close to the train station as well (I walked but it was a little tough with a giant suitcase). I spent two lovely nights here and would again in a heartbeat. Collapse
Awesome - from top to bottom

Stayed 5 nights in mid Oct for 25th anniv and wife's bday... rm#520... room included small (but useful) balcony overlooking lake. The staff all spoke English very well and were SUPER helpful in recommendations for things to do as well as restaurants. HUGE kudos to Mahmoud, Guillaume, Lora, and Silvia for being so friendly and helpful. Walk from train station was 10 minutes tops, but try to use elevator if you are dragging yer luggage, as the stairwells are pretty steep. The stay included (pleasant surprise to us) a travel pass that was extremely useful... free bus/train around town and all the way to Vevey and the wine areas beyond that. This pass also gave us fantastic discounts to local/alpine attractions such as Chillon Castle, Rochers-de-Naye, Maison Cailler, and Vinorama. Room was always clean and shower was perfect (strong, hot water with no drainage issues at all)... bed/sheets were very comfortable... TV was newer LG LCD and was fine despite only about 12 English channels... WiFi was free and perfect... was able to check gMail and use all iPhone apps and visit all sites as if I were in states with no issues. Room also included a small user-programmed safe - perfect for storing passports and swiss cash. BTW - Discover card was accepted at train station (both Montreux and Geneva), but nowhere else... I mean nowhere. Breakfast was included in our stay, however it was only fair... buffet style was good (nice selection) but scrambled eggs were watery and sometimes cold. However, it was convenient and worth it as the breads and pastries were always fresh. Downstairs bar was nice and friendly (thx much to Christoph, who was very nice/helpful). Casino was a fun night-capper... 5 minute walk from hotel. Restaurants we dined: Le Museum (absolutely unbelievable fondue and steak), Caveau des Vignerons (great fondue), Palais Bonheur (Asian food above casino), and Restaurant Dolce (Italian)... all great dining experiences! Would highly recommend this hotel - the walk to Chillon Castle via the lake-front walkway was something to behold! Collapse
