The good: 1. great location, two blocks from Time Square and in the middle of theater district. 2. Staff was very friendly and helpful. 3. Military discount. The bad: 1. We were on 2nd floor and a bar was across the street. You can imagine the noise. The room came with earplugs, provided free of charge in the bathroom. 2. The room was literally 7' by 14' for a total area of 98 square feet, including the bathroom. It was the smallest room I have ever stayed in. No more than two people could be in the room at a time. I have stayed in military tents many times larger than this room. 3. The air condition unit was a window unit, with a broken vent. Collapse
Great location for the price

As positive: the staff was very nice and I noticed they helping other people with directions. They keep your bags at no charge and you can order online and it can be delivered at the hotel at no cost (I asked that). The location of the hotel is great and one of the things that made us choose this hotel was breakfast included. It was not a luxury breakfast, but had coffee, tea, pastry, some bread, jelly, peanut butter, cream cheese, and apples and bananas. It was worth it. Besides, they keep the coffee machine available 24h and in the afternoon there were cookies in the front desk and also water with lemon to refresh. They have newspaper available and a ATM machine. There was also a large TV screen with a few features like flighttracker and you can take your selfie on it! On the negative side: The sink hole cover in the bathroom did not work properly and I called housekeeping. The lady stuck her hand in the sink to release the cover, which I did not considered practical. Once I´ve seen that, I kept it open 100% of the time. The bed sheets had some stains - they were not dirty, just stains. The wifi was kind of slow, but it was free, so... just a comment. Collapse

Just returned from NYC again :-) as we are frequent visitors, love the city and people. Chose to stay at this hotel based on reviews and feedback looked largely positive. And breakfast was included. Arrived having previously sent an email asking about a quieter room on an upper floor. Got allocated a tiny room on the 3rd floor which you could touch one wall with your hand and the other wall with your foot. Room was fairly run down and the safe was broken in the tiny wardrobe. We went to complain and got told we would have to stay in the room for at least a night and check back the next day, if a room was available as we were told the hotel was full. We went back, started to unpack and then about 15 minutes went back to reception and a different receptionist who said there was a room available on the 5th floor. We checked it out. It was slightly better laid out and a bit bigger so we opted to switch rooms. If we hadn't we would have checked out and gone elsewhere! The 5th floor room was a bit better but was tired and dated. Not cleaned to the best standard, worn chipped furniture, scuffed walls, stuff (???) stuck on the dated carpets in places and splashed paint elsewhere on the floors and walls as there had been some DIY done to try and patch up the room. The bathroom was really dated, tiled floor was not exactly clean and cracked in places which could have cut your feet. Shower was really of a poor standard and you could not really adjust the shower-head so the water almost came out and hit the far wall. Bath and tiles were tired and there was lots of mould which as not pleasant. You also have no control of the heating in the room which is an antiquated old hot air heating system. So the room gets really warm and not pleasant if you've just been for a shower. We're we're not here in Spring or Summer so can imagine the heat in these rooms could be an issue as the fan system built into the window is fairly useless. The room does get really noisy! Partly because there is a Fire Station just across the junction at 47th and 8th. But even 5 flights up you can hear people in the street as there is an inner window, and a different outer window. Why the whole window could have not been replaced at some point is just cheap! Lots of drafts coming in around the window which you do have to open to vent the room. Other things we could mention was work getting done in adjoining rooms, emergency exits certainly on 3rd and 5th were partially blocked with paint tins, lights, tools, rubbish and other obstructions. At least there were no emergencies when we stayed. Generally staff were friendly and breakfast although okay was fairly basic. We have stayed at other Choice Hotels but found this one somewhat over-rated and in need of a general over haul, "refurb", and spring clean. Collapse

The staff was very inviting and knowledgeable. Great location. Hotel and room was clean. Room was very small. But beds are comfy. A lot of traffic noise (horns and sirens) But hey it’s New York City and they do supply ear plugs.
