Wonderful helpful staff who make it. Nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel welcome throughout the hotel. Our room was large and well appointed (with lovely old furniture). There is a very nice swimming pool. Wi-fi was free in public rooms and free to Marriott Rewards Card holders everywhere. A nice bar serves drinks but also snacks, and there is also an associated Starbucks. .We were there for a reunion dinner-dance so did not eat (other than breakfast) in the restaurant. There was a queue at times for breakfast, probably because people like us, there to meet old friends, took too long! However, we were never hurried. We were there in bad weather, cold wind, snow showers. The major problem with the hotel was that the automatic entrance doors kept opening- (the poor reception staff must have been freezing), and many areas of the hotel were cold (not our bedroom that was very war0. The helpful staff found extra fires for thermos of all those who so requested. Position is excellent- a 5 minute walk into town, ten shops, the cathedral and castle. Collapse

As you’d expect of a Marriott hotel, very comfortable and well equipped rooms with tea and coffee facilities. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly, quickly sorting a taxi out for us at short notice. Buffet breakfast was tasty with a good range of different foods. Parking can be tricky as there are not a lot of spaces and it seems to be used by people visiting the town centre. We would visit again. Collapse

I have stayed here a few times and it is right on the river, great for watching the rowers and ideally situated for business or pleasure. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, rooms are spacious, they have a good desk and are ideal if you need to prepare work in them. B&B is keenly priced. I would certainly recommend staying there as a tourist. I would not recommend the restaurant which I had dinner in for the first time. Breakfast was excellent, but the dinner was disappointing and certainly not good value for money compared with the numerous restaurants within a short walking distance. The starter was poor and the main course pretty average; both portions were small by any standard. I usually avoid eating dinner in hotels, they are all a bit bland but, whilst I have no knowledge at all of how to run a restaurant, I reckon this could be stepped up a gear quite easily to match the high standards of the rest of the hotel. Will I stay there again? Yes, in every other respect it is first rate, but I will probably eat dinner elsewhere. Collapse

I have called for help (details not important) on two occasions (I stay quite a lot) and the team jumps to and does what they can... top marks for customer service. And for those that would complain, this is an old property, that has worked very hard and served many people. Love it for that, don't give the staff a hard time because something isn't quite right! Keep up the good work and Spirit to Serve! Collapse

Stayed here on business. Had lovely comfortable clean rooms. Breakfast was buffet style and really great quality, noticeably better than many I’ve stayed in in terms of the sausages, eggs and bacon. Excellent service. I didn’t have an evening meal here but did have a few drinks in the bar. The wine was excellent quality but a tad expensive. Happened to be visiting at the same time as Arsenal FC who we passed in the corridor. Collapse
