We organised a christmas meal/ party here. It consisted of a 3 course meal, half a bottle of wine and a disco. The food was beautiful and they included an unlimitted soft drink option for those who did not want to drink alcohol.

Room overlooked river, ok was warm and clean. Not the Cathedral view I had booked. Check what room is available before booking as no one told me the Cathedral view was an upgraded room and when we arrived, there were none available.

Enjoyed our stay here. Came from Sussex by train and then taxi from the station ( just under £5). There was a great welcome on arrival with mince pies and hot choc or mulled wine. We found we had been given a suite for our 3 night stay which was lovely. We signed to the Marriott brand so got free wifi ( I would actually expect this in 2017! ). The room was lovely with ample storage and a well fitted bathroom. We found the restaurant rather cold when we had evening meal which was a pity as it just took the edge off the experience. The food was very tasty though and well presented. It was also quite difficult to control the heating in the bedroom as it worked through the air con - the duvet was also rather thin. There was a supplementary mobile heater which helped a little. Breakfast was fine with buffet service but plenty of choice and was available to quite late in the morning. The waitresses were really helpful and kept everything topped up despite the large number of guests. Great coffee ! One of the bonuses of this hotel is the location - it's within easy walking distance of the old town and made shopping at the Christmas market a real pleasure. The Cathedral is beautiful and we enjoyed the exhibition on St Cuthbert as well as a carol service. We would definitely come again. Collapse
