We have just returned from a trip to the Doubletree by Hilton (city). We had a very pleasant stay but there are draw backs with this resort I really don't want to say anything to put people off of their stay at this hotel as the staff are very helpful and the food was very good and the rooms are cleaned daily to a high standard but there are definitely some things that are wrong not with the hotel but with the location and also the transfers to and from the hotel. Lets start at the beginning We arrived at the airport and was meet by the hotel driver to take us to the hotel, all good so far. we got to the coach/mini bus which could do with updating as it is old and cramped The transfer is advertised as 45 minutes, however, if there is anyone on from the Resort and Spa hotel they are dropped first so the journey in fact is closer to 1.5 - 2 hours (it was for us) booking in was a very easy process, we were allocated a room on our arrival at 10:30ish which was quite handy The transfer between Doubletree City and the Resort & Spa is roughly 35 minutes each way on what I can only call a school bus, the seats were very narrow and you can only just get 2 slim people on the seats. As both my wife and myself are regular sized my backside overhung the chair on a daily basis and I was constantly buffeted as people boarded the bus. Apparently only the British queue, as on a normal day my wife and I plus a couple we met from Leeds arrived early to ensure we got on the bus only to have a hoard of people turn up as the bus arrived and then try to barge past to ensure getting on the bus (the hoard tended to be German and Russian) but I cannot blame the hotel for this. maybe a queuing rope like they had at theme parks or something would resolve this issue The drinks are more expensive at the City hotel than at the Resort and Spa (i.e. a bottle of house white at the City hotel is approximately £45, the same bottle at the Resort and Spa is £35. I do not know where the disparity comes from, maybe the location) for some reason, although we did get 4 free bottles of water per day in our room which was very helpful for tea and coffee of an evening just before hitting the hay we tried to hire a car though the hotel but was told it would take 2 hours before the car was available and the price was £60, we went to a local car hire company (Sinbad's, yes really) and the car cost £22. not too sure what the additional £38 was for On departure the hotel did not give enough time to get to the airport in a timely manner, in fact we arrived at the airport as 12:10 for a 14:25 flight and then had to check in and clear customs which left very little time for duty free shopping so here is my Pro's and Con's list Pros The staff, they are very helpful, polite and always willing to help The food was excellent, however, if you don't like rice and spicy food you may find the choice limited. I like spicy so all good for me Breakfast, a good selection of cereal, juices, cheeses, breads. Fresh omelettes and/or fried eggs. some unusual items were chicken nuggets along with veal bacon and chicken sausages on all inclusive all drinks were also included as long as you selected the correct version (there are 3 options) Con's The location, it is a 35 minute transfer to the beachfront hotel The drop off time for the airport The coaches are outdated The rooftop pool is very small with limited sun beds (although plenty of pools and sun beds at the Resort and Spa) Overall, I liked the hotel and staff but the location is very restrictive for both resorts as you are tied to the hotels. there are some excursions laid on by the hotel but not enough. the shopping is very expensive in both Ras Al Khamaih and Dubai but this is something the hotel has no control over Would I recommend this hotel? I am on the fence, in another location I would recommend it at the drop of a hat, however, it isn't in another location so probably no, it is all about the location and nothing else for me. as I said the staff we excellent, I also enjoyed the food and the beach front hotel once I got there but the transfers are a pain and you are still tied to the hotels Collapse
