Not what we expected from Hilton as we have used many of their lovely hotels in the past. Stayed for a few days over half term. Incredibly modern hotel which works in some areas but makes other parts look like a warehouse. Reception is efficient and able to answer any questions we had. Staff were friendly. Rooms were clean but again very modern and not particularly to our taste. Very comfy, huge bed (awful foam pillows) but with no head board it was difficult to sit propped up - very easy to bang your head on the stone wall (happened on numerous occasions). No bedside tables, just a recess in the wall. Sliding door covered toilet and shower so one was always open. The sports bar was where we ate most evenings and the food and service was good. The buffet breakfast was ok but the evening was poor - limited choice and no atmosphere. Didn't make you want to linger at the table over a coffee or liqueur . There was no ambiance in any of the restaurants especially the room where breakfast and the dinner buffet was - like sitting in a barn - very echoey ! There was a distinct lack of information (none) re trips etc and when asked were told there were no brochures , just a printed sheet reception printed off for us when asked. There was no information re good local restaurants or bars. The bar in the lobby was hardly ever opened and we had to ask for someone to serve on the occasions it was open. The spa was not free to guests as it implied on the website. The indoor pool we could use was quite dark and I felt it could be unsafe if swimming with kids as I was unable to see under the water. We didn't use the other sports facilities. The roof top bar was lovely but with limited seating got quite crowded at night. If you did not get a sofa then you were left with a long bench and stools or a sun lounger. The pool loungers looked fab but it was difficult for those who wanted to sit in the shade but stay with the family as there was a fixed roof so you were unable to alter the angle of the shade. The was nothing to walk to from the hotel so going out involved walking (long way up or downhill) or a taxi. We enjoyed the break but will chose a less modern hotel next time. Collapse
Quirky, friendly and fresh!

Booked a fairly late deal for Wifey and I as an Anniversary break, and very happy that I did. Staff - very friendly and helpful. Smiles all round. Hotel - Spotlessly clean...reception like an art museum, hallways like a nightclub and bars/ restaurants great. Gym - Awesome. A brilliant facility, Large, very well equipped, modern equipment, very clean. Spa, yeah you pay about 30Euros, but its a big Spa pool with a number of jets which massage different parts of the body...a sauna and steam room, jacuzzi etc. We were in there a good 2 hours and think its well worth it. The rooms - awesome. Makes me laugh how people criticise the open plan stuff! Don't stay there then!??! They make no secret of the fact that the shower is next to the bed etc! If you're staying with your partner then what's the problem??! We loved it! Also the bath by the window/balcony is fun! The balconies are cleverly positioned so no-one can peep in..unless they are about 2 miles away with binoculars! Everything spotlessly clean..large flatscreen telly...air con, minibar, iron.... all good. Rooftop bar, out of this world. Early evening with candles on we sat and enjoyed a bottle of Cava..genuinely one of the best bars we've been in. Must be great in Summer when u can dive in the pool etc.. The only small niggle would be the evening buffet...All a bit expensive and conveyor belt-like. It wasn't bad, but even the staff here weren't as helpful and friendly as elsewhere in the hotel. We found the food in the restaurant next to the gym MUCH better, cheaper and healthy too! The hotel is on a Real Estate development at the top of a very steep hill. We got off the train at Carvajal station (at the bottom of the hill - approx 30 mins from Malaga and cheap as chips for a ticket) and were lucky enough to find the little hotel shuttle tram waiting for us. This was luck more than judgement, and I can imagine it being annoying if you had to wait there for too long. It doesn't look like a regular cab stop and definitely too long/steep to walk. Would go back... would recommend... Collapse

Trendy modern design including works of art. Lovely pools. Beware the expensive spa! Sauna & steam room only accessed via the spa. Good breakfast. Slow service in restaurant - but only one person serving the night we ate! Handy land train to station & beach. Open plan bathroom - silly concept & design which involved sharing a sliding door between the shower & toilet!! Certainly gave us something to talk about!! Lovely infinity pool with bar which was open in evenings for a sun down drink. Collapse

This is our second family stay at the doubletree higueron. The staff are efficient and courteous and remembered us from the previous visit. They were also happy to provide our son with extra portions of their famous cookies! My only criticism of the hotel is that it is advertised as a hotel and spa. This implies that the spa facilities are included. The spa is run by a separate company and an entrance fee is charged. Hotel guests receive a discount, but it is still quite expensive. It would be a nice gesture if hotel guests could be granted a limited number of free entrances. This is a small issue and certainly wouldn't stop us from staying there again. Collapse
