Good hotel in an excellent location opposite Kensington Gardens. Second time we have stayed here and we weren't disappointed. Its a good standard hotel, very clean well maintained with pleasant and efficient staff. We find the Notting Hill area is a great base for exploring London and this hotel has the benefit of only being across the road from Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park and a short stroll to either Notting Hill or Queensway Tube stations. Rooms are very nice with some overlooking the park and the hotel provides a tasty buffet style breakfast. Collapse

We had a very pleasant 4 night stay at the Doubletree Hyde Park. The room was clean and bed comfortable. Breakfast was more than adequate each day and the front desk staff was very helpful. Internet was reliable and fast, and there was a good choice of television channels. You do need to manage expectations, though. As others have noted, the rooms are very small, but the two of us did not feel too cramped (and, to take a phrase from cruise ship reviews - you aren't in the room too much anyway if you are touring London). Also, although there are tube stations nearby, you are a couple miles from the basic tourist stops such as the Tower, Houses of Parliament, etc. On the other hand, you are right across from Hyde Park and Kensington Palace, and it is easy to get around by public transport. Finally, the lobby is a sterile, somewhat chilly, unwelcoming area with only one chair. On a number of occasions we noticed guests with luggage sitting on the floor waiting for a taxi to arrive or the like. I suggest some more thought (and decoration) is needed. One other suggestion (or more a pet peeve) - our room had no information sheet or brochure about the hotel (with breakfast hours, location of fitness facility, information about the surrounding area, etc.) It is one of those things you don't miss until it isn't there. In general, we were happy with our stay and would certainly consider it again. Collapse

I stayed here for 7 nights - mostly because I was unable to change my reservation without paying a one-night penalty fee (144 British pounds or more). I made reservations in advance with the proviso that they could be changed up to 24 hours in advance. I thought I would be able to change the number of nights after arrival - I could but with a penalty. My suggestion if you are booking a multi-night stay but have some uncertainty would be to book multiple reservations for different nights - if you are unhappy after the first night you can cancel subsequent nights. Cons: very small rooms (twin room), difficult to regulate heat (gets extremely hot even set at lowest setting - I had to put the AC on), uncomfortable beds, lobby is non-existent (one chair) so don't plan on meeting there or having another place for a lounge, worn and dirty carpeting in the room, micro-sized toiletries (one shower depleted most of the body wash), a room with a view looks out over bus parking lot, very limited water pressure in shower, unusual shower configuration - difficult to turn on without getting wet, general cleaning issues (orange staining on shower tile grout, a large area - 1.5 square meter area- of the wall to right of desk prominently stained). Pros: close to Queensway tube station, walking distance to restaurants and downtown along Kensington High Street, Nespresso machine, hot water kettle for tea (Tetley and Twining are supplied - I bought my own tea). You do have a HD wall mounted TV, a fridge, a laptop safe and one USB charger on the clock. I had little to no interaction with hotel staff after my initial rollaway issue - had to ask for some bathroom provisions which ran out and to try and fix internet on my last night; everyone was pleasant. The hotel only has rooms with a king bed, a queen bed, two twins, or a single twin - most of the hotels I checked in London had two twins rather than two double beds (not sure if this is the case for the UK overall). I had one extra occupant for a night - rollaways would cost an extra 60 British pounds (OUCH!!!) and they said they only could be used in king rooms but neither king room nor rollaway were available. Wasn't crazy about the twin beds but needed two beds. Keep this bed sizing in mind and ask in advance if you need a rollaway. At the rate charged by this hotel you might be better off finding other bookings. Another hotel across the way through Hyde Park had a pullout sofa in their room with twin beds - while the room rate was higher it was a 5-star hotel and not that much more when you figured in the Doubletree's rollaway cost. Hilton Honors members have free wi-fi. Also the water is extremely hard - droplets of water left on the faucets leave a powdery white residue - ladies (and gents), prepare for some hair washing difficulties - and this may be London wide occurrence. We stayed at this Doubletree Hotel for 8 nights in early December. It was booked as part of an Expedia flight and hotel combo. The Hotel location is great! There are 3 tube stations within a few blocks (Queensway, Notting Hill Gate and Bayswater. Buses are also available right outside on Bayswater Road. Our room was nice, but small and faced the rear of the building with no view. (at least it was quiet!) The beds were comfortable and the room was clean and cozy. There are plenty of fast food (Pret a Manger, EAT, McDonald's, etc) close by and a few grocery stores. A bit of a snafu upon check out as somebody else's dry cleaning was charged to our room. The Manager removed the charge immediately when we told them it wasn't ours, but it was odd how this could happen... Overall a nice stay. Collapse
