Amazing hotel we stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton in London Excel. We stayed for a wedding and loved the fact that the hotel was open 24hrs. We were served breakfast in bed at no extra cost and our room was upgraded too. Amazing night's sleep and staff and everyone was very helpful. City airport was right next to us but it didn't matter because we didn't hear the aeroplanes and they didn't disturb our sleep. No attractions nearby but it was ok for us as we were near family. Had a great stay at this hotel. Warm cookies on arrival, perfect nights sleep and great WiFi so I could get a little work done as well. My room on the 5th floor looked out over the runway at London City airport which I really enjoyed and there was no noise from this at all. The staff on reception was very friendly. Would have no hesitations going back to this hotel again. Collapse

I would highly recommend NOT staying here. I cannot understand how this hotel is still open. The level of service from everywhere, apart from one lady on the front desk, was absymal. First of all, my room was not ready when I arrived, three hours later than I said I would. So, the staff member relocated me but I had to mention that I chose my room specifically for the view, so he tried to convince me that he had given me an "upgrade" so that I could have the view that I had already chosen! This is just the tip of the iceberg. The whole hotel had a pungent, wretched smell of marijuana. I was utterly shocked. The lifts were so tiny and so rickety, I was certain I was going to meet my demise in one of them. The signs on the walls were all chipped, cracked or falling off. The whole hotel is needing a desperate upgrade, but I get the impression that won't happen for a very long time. My room was shocking. As soon as I stepped out of the lift, I thought I had gone back to the 70s. The decor is horrendous and so mismatched. My queen bed only had TWO pillows on it and they were both different shapes, which made for an extremely uncomfortable nights sleep. There was a flashing smoke alarm right above my head, with a flash so bright I thought a plane flying over was going to mistake my room for the runway. Breakfast: DONT! If you are going to stay here, save some money and pay to have breakfast elsewhere. Never in my life have had such horrific service. A man whom I can only presume was a manager, Giuseppe I think his name was, preceeded to shout at and argue with a waiter right infront of me whilst I waited to be seated. Then this said waiter welcomed me to breakfast but didnt show me to a table, just shoo'd me away to find my own table, only for me to find absolutely nowhere to sit. The service from the entire team was horrendous. The food was disgusting, what little there was of it. Waiters were bringing out PLASTIC jugs of juice to fill up the large jars of juice with barely enough juice to fill 5 glasses. I was just in utter shock of how bad this entire experience was. I will never EVER stay here in again. I recommend you do not either, stay in the Aloft, Premier Inn or Novotel; for the same price or cheaper and far far superior. I just don't understand how I can stay at one DoubleTree hotel in Tower Hill, the night before, have an outstanding stay and then go to this hotel and have such a terrible stay. Never again. I have later found out this hotel is ran by a franchise, Shiva Hotels, under the DoubleTree brand. So AVOID all their other hotels at all costs, I cant believe Hilton has given them the contract for the new Lincoln Plaza, Curio Collection. Absolute shambles. Collapse

5 mins walk from DLR and 15mins walk to City Airport. My husband and I stayed prior to flight and were very impressed. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and efficient. Dinner was ok could have been hotter but tasted good however the full English breakfast was exceptional the best I’ve had in a chain hotel. Plenty to choose from and cooked really well. Also good choice of cereals, fruit, breads, cakes and pastries. Will definitely stay again if needed and will be happy to try others hotels in the group. Only down side was the restaurant was cold at night- it was snowing outside! Collapse

We stayed here for one night before a family Wedding. The room was booked by a family member for us in one of the Honors rooms (5th and 6th floor). It was a nice greeting when we arrived by reception who offered us a warm cookie each (what a cookie that was i tell you!). Went up to the room which over looked the runway. Noise from this was not a problem as the room had very good glazing. The room was comfortable but when we went into the bathroom, we noticed a extractor fan cut in like an other bathrooms, but this did not stop running all the time we were in the room and through the night which was not to much of a problem as you can just close the door to the bathroom ( in hindsight we should have reported it to reception to get it sorted). But the biggest bug bear was the noise from the heater/air conditioning unit in the room, which we could not turn off no matter what we turned or pressed, and while we kept thinking it will turn off soon it didn't all night ( again we should have mentioned it to reception but didn't, as laying in bed at 1pm and struggling to sleep you do not need someone coming into your room to sort out the unit). We did mention it to a lovely lady behind recpetion in the morning who very kindly offered us a partial refund, which was very acceptable. Breakfast was in a very nice spacious room with a very good selection of food and and hot drinks made to order from a Barista. The only minor fault was that the fried food was on a help yourself buffet like at most places so it was only luke warm. Another small note, most of the staff were friendly except for one person who saw us come down for breakfast and stared at us on the way past recpetion, we both said good morning to him and we didn't even get a smile back. Thanks! All we can say after all this is, its a little over priced for our first time visit and for the level of service we received and we would prefer to stay opposite at the Premier Inn opposite for value for money and a quieter nights sleep. So I am a Hilton Gold member so stay in Hilton Hotels when I can. I stayed for one night then extended as the hotel was great, staff were friendly and the bar and services were good as well. I had a nice room overlooking the river. Views here are not spectacular but they were as good as one could get. Place has a good bar, convenient to the Convention Center. I would stay here again.
