We as a group have used Hilton Hotels for our Christmas night out for the past four year, I can speak for all 30 of us, never again, The Double tree experience was shocking to say the least, we sat down at 1900hrs for a 1930hrs start to our meal, what we got served was a joke, tasteless soup (allegedly) I don't like turkey so was offered chicken instead, this was dried out and with the mess of vegetables that were thrown onto the plate soon found its way back to the kitchen, as I don't touch alcohol I was given some tasteless white stuff (I have city and guilds in catering and I'm still not sure what it was). By 2345hrs there was still no sign of the tea and coffee, when I asked for a tea it arrived cold (not even warm) I asked to speak to a member of the events management team only to be told they went home at 2200hrs, WOW, I did however speak to the duty hotel manager who was apologetic and took my grievances and details and said I would get a reply from someone, still waiting, I saw at least 40 people leave before midnight and our party left just after midnight to go somewhere else as we all felt that Doubletree Hilton had let us down and ruined our night out, would I recommend this venue to anyone, not even if I hated them. My colleagues and I stayed on Saturday 9th December for a party night in the Ballroom. Check in was fast and efficient, the rooms were clean (we had five booked), and it was only when we got down to the ballroom that things went downhill. The party night started at 7.30pm, but we were still waiting for our starters at 8.15pm. The soup was completely tasteless and inedible (butternut squash and sweet potato, with not a hint of spiced creme fraiche). The turkey main course tasted like it had been exposed to the freezer since last christmas and was overwhelmed by brussel sprouts and not much else - the cranberry and apple jus was also tasteless stock. As for the dessert (which arrived after 10.30pm - three hours after we sat down!), we couldn't figure out what we were eating. It was supposed to taste like chocolate but it wasn't a cheesecake, it wasn't a mousse, it wasn't a sponge. It was by far the most flavourful of all the courses and thats a stretch. We never saw a hint of tea or coffee on offer after that. Bar prices were ridiculous, at over £30 for a bottle of mediocre prosecco. The service was slow, badly organised for such a large event, and the servers could use a lesson in customer care. Three hours to serve three courses is beyond a joke. get some of your managers on to the staff to crack down on uniform standards too as they were not two-star never mind four. Most shirts were not ironed, the girls were absolutely caked in make-up and they all need a tie-tying tutorial. As a hospitality profession I was appalled by the experience at this party night. get your banqueting and events operations sorted out please. The only redeeming factor was the live band, called Circus. They were entertaining and engaging and kept people on the dancefloor. It's a shame they were only on stage for a couple of hours. This was my first experience of this hotel, and based on their inability to cater for an event this size (which they should be used to based on their reputation), I won't be back. I will also avoid recommending the party nights. I hope to receive a management response with good reason for this disaster. Collapse
