Hotel location was great for Chester Zoo. Looks lovely and reception staff were very friendly. However in room, children's bed was not ready, food found on floor behind one chair, sunglasses from previous guest on another chair, and sweet found stuck to the carpet. Batteries had gone on both remotes for televisions and air conditioning would not stay on. Staff very good and sorted out all problems quickly but general state of room was unacceptable. Evening restaurant menu limited especially children's menu which had a choice of only 3 things. Reception staff cleared the restaurant bill on departure due to issues with room and again were very good. Overall, hotel and room looked lovely, all staff very helpful but limited menus in restaurant and general cleanliness of room was awful. Collapse

My wife and myself have just returned from a one night stay at the doubletree chester hilton hotel and spa . Yes there is building work going on around the hotel and grounds but this did not affect our stay and the whole experience was fantastic. We got an upgrade to a suite , which was a fantastic room with full bedroom and living space , along with a bathroom containing walk - in shower and large bath. We dined in the brand new garden room , which has been refurbished to a very high standard and the three courses that we had were all top quality. The spa and pool facilities are also excellent and we spent 2 hours relaxing in the pool , sauna , steam room . Breakfast in the morning was so relaxed and the choice and quality of all food was excellent , with cereal , pasteries , full english breakfast , along with coffees , teas and fruit juices . A friendly professional attitude by all members of staff made our stay perfect and we will be returning in the next four weeks. Thanks again to all staff. Collapse

I visit this hotel frequently and to be fair the experience is pretty good. The staff are attentive, polite and good mannered. The rooms are great and the dining facilities are excellent with a new bistro style restaurant and a Marco Pierre White facility. HOWEVER There is a major refurbishment project currently underway both internally and externally with a new car park being created in the adjacent field. Parking is all over the place at the minute, the grounds are messy and I wouldn't wear my best shoes trying to find the entrance in all that mud. If you can cope with mess then fine but it bugs me. Really loved this hotel. There is some major renovations going on but this didn't affect our stay . We didn't use the spa facilities so can't comment on them but our room was lovely , not very big but really nice . The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings like a stately home with large fountain on entrance . Very friendly staff who was very attentive . Breakfast was buffet style with everything you could need and more. Overall we had a lovely time here and wished we could have stayed another night . Collapse

We were given this stay as a gift and I was disappointed for a Hilton hotel. I think when our voucher was bought it had things included which had changed in the new year. -We didn't receive bathrobes like it said. -We didn't receive a glass of bubbly at dinner like it said. -we upgraded our menu at dinner because we didn't have much choice on the menu handed to us. We paid an extra £20 in total. -We had a few problems with the bill at the end but that was sorted. -I also noticed that the complimentary spa access has now been taken off and there is a charge of £15 per couple and £25 per family each time you visit. In the welcome pack they have crossed out where it says complimentary. Which needs changing as it's really noticeable. -The rooms are okay but nothing really special -I did enjoy the welcome cookie and the staff were friendly enough. It was nice to have a break and come to Chester but the most enjoyable was going for drinks in the centre. You can grab a taxi for £5.50 to the centre which isn't too bad. Collapse

Booked the hotel for Valentine's weekend, 2 nights. The beginning of the stay was simply fantastic- Reception staff showed real empathy even though very busy- credit to the whole team on reception as I spoke to them over the stay and no matter who was on the desk the service was still as good. We stayed on the Honors floor, decent sized room, clean and quiet, shame the fridge didn't work but I didn't mention as it wasn't affecting our stay so I can't say it was a fault. Used the pool and gym area- very busy but well worth a visit! Charge of £15 per day did seem expensive, however I was given a complimentary pass from reception due to the stay being a special occasion- Thanks!! The Marco Pierre restaurant- I had booked it online as an upgrade but was told on arrival this meant i was only added to a waiting list- we were gutted as this was one of the reasons why I booked this particular hotel- my advice, book via the hotel in advance!!! Because of this we had to use the hotel restaurant- used it once on the Friday evening and again on the Saturday morning and this is where the hotel is completely let down- the service was horrendous from the beginning through to the end to the point that we didn't return and had to eat out. Another issue- In every stairwell there were groups of dirty plates, empty bottles, ice buckets and glasses- think of a whole floors worth from the room cleaning - they were there from the morning and still there at 10pm until I went and told someone who was genuinely mortified- cleared up quickly once notified. To make this hotel a good hotel the basic service elements around dining and housekeeping need to improve drastically. All in all it could have been phenomenal but unfortunately it wasn't. Collapse
