Hotel location was great for Chester Zoo. Looks lovely and reception staff were very friendly. However in room, children's bed was not ready, food found on floor behind one chair, sunglasses from previous guest on another chair, and sweet found stuck to the carpet. Batteries had gone on both remotes for televisions and air conditioning would not stay on. Staff very good and sorted out all problems quickly but general state of room was unacceptable. Evening restaurant menu limited especially children's menu which had a choice of only 3 things. Reception staff cleared the restaurant bill on departure due to issues with room and again were very good. Overall, hotel and room looked lovely, all staff very helpful but limited menus in restaurant and general cleanliness of room was awful. Collapse

We visited Saturday 21st January for my wife's birthday. Upon arriving at the hotel, which we last stayed at about 3 years ago it was clear to see that renovation work was ongoing however disruption was at a minimum and there was an alternate entrance to avoid the work which was taking place. The lady on the front desk, who I believe was called Wendy, couldn't do enough for us and was really friendly. When I booked the room I made a note that it was my wife's birthday treat and she made sure she said happy birthday as we were booking in and gave us a voucher for a drink each. We found that when we got to our room we had been upgraded and they had even left a cake in our room saying happy birthday on it! We went in the spa which was quite busy as it was Saturday tea time however we were able to find room in the various steam rooms and jacuzzis etc. so was worth a visit. The room was clean and tidy as you would expect and it couldn't be faulted. We ate in the Marco Pierre White restaurant which I would recommend however I also had a drink in the hotel bar/restaurant. I didn't eat the food but saw it been brought out and it certainly looked good! I would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone thinking of visiting Chester. It's only a ten minute drive from Cheshire Oaks and is straight off the motorway making not easy to find. Collapse

We had booked dinner, bed and breakfast and use of the spa. We enjoyed making the most of all the facilities. The spa was very good with a lot to do even if it was quite busy in the afternoon. However, I am disappointed to find out that there is now a £15 charge to use it. I feel that this is too expensive to pay on top of what you have already paid to stay in the hotel. We had dinner in the Garden room which was good. We chose to eat from the set menu which had a good selection. The cheeseboard was slightly disappointing but everything else was great. The fish and chips were huge. After dinner we asked if we could have a cocktail and the staff explained that they were only available from the Marco Pierre White bar. When we got there there were only a few stools to sit on and it closed at 11.30pm. The cocktails were lovely but more seating and a later time for last orders would have improved our evening. Breakfast was as expected- a good selection of hot and cold food from the buffet and a selection of coffees/tea. The hotel is currently having a lot of work done so outside is a bit messy. Inside, the staff have tried hard to minimise the disruption but I am sure it will be a lot better when the work has been completed. Collapse
Great stay as always, despite alot of building work going on.

Staying here never fails to impress me. You pull off the main road and feel like you are in a country estate. Just a slight warning, they are doing alot of improvements/building work here, so the car park was covered in mud. I believe reception is being renovated over the coming weeks, over an 8 week period I think the staff said. Quick check-in and a great welcome from the staff. Up to my room on the 1st floor which was a junior suite (got upgraded which was nice). Large 2 room suite, with bathroom. Huge bed as always. The Spa facilities here are excellent, Gold & Diamond HHonors members get access free, I believe everybody else has to pay a fee to access. Well worth it anyway. Didnt have evening meal here this time, but breakfast was a nice choice of foods (self service) or items from a menu that you could order. The staff here are great, from the restaurant, to check-in, and housekeeping. Can't wait to go back. Collapse

Let's acknowledge the builders are in,so there is going to be disruption but honestly the problems that I experienced have very little to do with builders The guest bedrooms and corridors have that feeling of being neglect and outdated something from the 1970s. Brown and grim There is a general lack of attention to detail, curtains off the tracts and beds not properly connected ( see pics ) Admittedly it was a very cold evening but even with an additional heater I have NEVER been so cold. The heating in my room could not be set any higher than 23 and believe me it never got anything close to that as the heater just wanted to blow out cold air . The pride of the hotel should be the newly refurbished garden restaurant. To quote the hotels own literature " When you dine with us you are unlocking the secret to our brand new restaurant where we have created a menu using some of the finest British ingredients around. " Serious attention needs to be paid to this very average and at times below average offering. Charging TOP dollar with starters in the £7 to £9.50 price band. Mains £12 to £22 and deserts an eye watering £7 or more you would expect something a bit more special than a meal thrown on an ordinary white plate with paper napkins !!! The menu has left the pound signs of the prices in order to be stylish and modern the hotel needs to put more attention into the food that's served up for it also has had something left out....value for money . I saw nothing to suggest it was made with the finest ingredients Breakfast...why do some hotels think cheap sausages and reconstituted orange juice is acceptable? Again I saw nothing to justify the claim of it serving the finest British ingredients. The pool will cost you another £15 unless like me you are a diamond card holder. With a vast experience of Hiltons I would say this was about the worst..... I just hope things do get better . Collapse
