my experience with this hotel was excellent from pre-check-in, during the stay, to final check out. the front desk took time to explain available services. just a few minutes after I entered the room, they called to confirm if everything were working in the room. they provided two bottles of water free of charge, which is really nice since many other places charge outrageous price for such small items. we checked in quite late and had dinner at the hotel. the waiters were patient with us, even if we were the last table to finish, they didn't seem to mind at all. My starter was too salty for my taste, and I mentioned that when the waiter came to take the plate away. in the end they took that off my bill. Collapse

Despite its central position with a water view in a cramped area, I still thought this very expensive, although I know I was comparing prices with out-of-town, small town hotels and a Premier Lodge I'd stayed in recently. For groups of 10 there was a discount, but 12 of us had to ask for it. They had lost my booking, so I had an infuriating wait while the receptionist fiddled about searching her screen. After about 20 minutes I was given an available disabled room, whereupon they found my booking under a wrong name - inexcusable when emails with the right spelling had passed between us. (I couldn't get online myself to check because I wasn't booked in - and had to pay extra for wifi in any case!) Finally a warm cookie was trust into my full hands which I couldn't eat and certainly didn't make up for their incompetence. My room was ok, others seemed small, although one had upgraded to get a 2 chair balcony with river view. The modern bar area was very busy with reasonable snacks, but a glass of house wine was £10 and no one knew what a bitter shandy was and had to be taught. Room Bars were sensitive, so don't move anything to look at or you'll have to pay! Water and bathroom goodies were generous though. Tables in the outside garden overlooking the 'old mill leat' had a lot of flies, but the dining room was quite nice and food was fine. Breakfast was self-serve and good and it was great to be given a private room. Some of the corridor carpets were a bit threadbare and supper trays had not been cleared from them late in the morning. Their car park costs £25 per day which is apparently comparable with others nearby. I felt I'd paid for a treat which I didn't really feel I'd had, on the other hand when their extension is finished, I might, just might, face going there again. QUESTION Why in a disabled room with good bars to hang onto, did I have to clamber into a bath to use the shower? Collapse

Lovely hotel, with nice reception/bar area. The room was clean, with fresh towels and crisp bedding, fridge and coffee/tea and nice toiletries. Cambridge is on the doorstep, which is the perfect location for shopping, food or drinks, and of course a soft of sight seeing. The room temperature was ideal considering it was a cold new years eve. The beds were very comfy, and we slept well. There was no noise from other guests but considering Hilton had a New Years eve celebration in full swing, which was open to all guests. The breakfast was good, Staff were busy and worked hard and all very hospitable. View over the river and the common was delightful and a lovely way to see the new year in. It is not possible for us to rate this hotel lower and we felt the 5 stars are well deserved. I would say that anyone one visiting Cambridge should be prepared for expensive parking charges throughout the city. Collapse
