I travelled to Cambridge on business. The location on the river was fabulous, and it was a short walk to all of the sights. The welcome was great- a warm cookie on arrival and staff were all extremely helpful. I was expecting more for breakfast for a Marco Pierre White restaurant- packet porridge, and poor options for gluten and dairy free guests. The coffee was awful but nice freshly squeezed orange juice. Overall for the price I was very satisfied. Collapse

This hotel is not cheap but is ideally located on the riverside a few minutes walk away from the colleges. Views are wonderful from the dining room. We were aware of the current refurbishments, and as HH members had selected and "checked in" our room online. The room was spacious with plenty of hanging space and a decent sized en suite. Bed was very comfortable. TV took a while to work out as the channels were all over the place. Be careful with the minibar and goodies above it (crisps, wine) as there are trigger happy mechanisms that instantly send "usage" alerts to the billing system! Main disappointment (as expected) was the parking facility, which inevitably was constricted by the building works. The place was almost full around 3pm (earliest check-in time), though how many were tourists or shoppers was unknown. The cone restrictions at the barriers were ridiculously positioned. meaning that you had to pass through the exit barrier before coming back through the entry barrier if spaces weren't obvious from the first circuit. We just temporarily moved the cones to circumvent this absurdity and to hell with elf'n'safety. We were however prepared for the £19.50 charge and made sure to arrange a full 24 hours mid-afternoon to mid-afternoon with the front desk to accommodate our plans for the weekend. Collapse

We have just returned from a lovely family weekend at this hotel to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday, from the minute we walked through the door the staff couldn't have done more for us. We found the hotel clean, the rooms good and the attention to detail just perfect. We look forward to returning soon. Collapse

Last minute stay- arrived at reception to ask for a room for the same night. Advised a price, so went online (still at reception) and booked for £30 cheaper. Was told by the receptionist the reason she didn’t offer me this room, was because we would need to leave earlier than the usual check out time. I suggested we would be leaving early anyway for work and therefore found this room would be suitable. Two points therefore; why didn’t she give me the price of the lower cost room with the caveat of the early departure- or at least enquiry of my plans? Also, why was it not highlighted when booked directly on the hotel website, that I would have to evacuate my room ‘early’ (no specific time given)? What also might have been necessary to know about was the noise, which woke us at 06.55 and continued until we left. Primarily the collection of glass and rubbish- maybe some extra glazing would benefit this side of the hotel?! Was is so busy on a Sunday night that this was the best room available?! The plug hole in the bathroom also gurgled noisily anytime another room released waste water, intermittently through the night. Upon check a new morning receptionist enquired if we had enjoyed our stay. I touched on the noise and instead of acknowledging my observation, empathising or apologising, he just advised simply, ‘It’s chilly outside.’ Having been to a few Doubletree hotels around the world, we love the signature cookie. None were provided upon check-in, in the room (which is fine because I understand there were not expecting us) however when I asked at checkout if they still have them, a delicious warm cookie was produced, from a seemingly heated drawer. He appeared to neglect my husband might like one, so had to ask for another one. We were very excited to revisit an ordinarily nice hotel, however we feel let down and will try somewhere else in the future. Customer service makes a huge difference and the specific touches seem to have been ignored. Disappointing. Collapse

If not for the above my review would have been Excellent - The Car Parking charge of £19.50 for residents is a SCAM a Hotel of this Standard should not have to resort to this kind of subterfuge - I am extremely disappointed. There was also a very disappointing Hotel refurbishment going on with no explanation and certainly no offer of recompense!!! So I only award a Poor to Average rate for the Hotel. Collapse
