The Traditional Afternoon Tea consist of Sandwiches, Scones with cream and jam plus various dainty sized cakes, you can also opt for Champagne. We had Afternoon Tea for 4, from the restaurant you can see out to the river (lots of people out punting at this time of year). All very pleasant but be warned if you are due a visit in the next few weeks/months, the hotel is expanding and there are rather a lot of unsightly building works which I wish I had known about prior to booking. After taking our hot drinks order and then subsequently delivering the drinks and sandwiches etc we were left to our own devices, it would have been nice if we were asked if all was ok etc, I would like to have had some hot water to make the tea last a bit longer. All in the main a pleasant Birthday Treat, be warned that as well as the price for the tea, there is also a service charge. Collapse

Whatever you do avoid booking here until the renovation is finished. Luckily we were only here for one night. We could not even see out if the room. It was so hot we stayed out as late as we could but still got no sleep at all. The staff we dealt with were polite but that's no use if they are expected to put people in dreadful rooms and then offer a partial refund if they complain. I didn't want a refund, just a nights sleep. After all , isn't that what a hotel is for. Collapse

Highly recommend this hotel, We used the valet parking service. At reception we were greeted by very friendly staff with hot cookies who immediately congratulated my husband on his 50th birthday stay. I rang the day before to ask for them to help me choose a nice room with a view to which I was asked if I wanted to upgrade from my original booking with a discount. I said yes and as I entered the junior suit (room 304) the phone rang to say please except the upgrade free of charge as a birthday gift (how lovely). We went down to Marco Pierre white's steakhouse bar & grill (use the 25% discount card in your room) where we were shown our table with a view across to the river watching people taking a punt out along the river Cam (very entertaining) a waiter came over with two complimentary glass's of birthday bubbly, it really made my husband feel special. The food was delicious, we had a starter each then shared the chateaubriand which was cooked medium rare and was so soft & tender. We ordered the burnt cream dessert to share but they also bought a brownie with a birthday candle as well while singing happy birthday. The hotel is so well located and easy to get to the town on foot. As part of my husbands birthday treat he had a private booking with the master gin distiller at the local distillery (10 mins drive) to which he spent two hours tailoring his own gin (he's a massive gin lover) in the evening we took a taxi to Daniel Clifford's Michelin star restaurant Midsummer's house. All in all I can't fault our experience, yes the hotel is being renovated but we never found that intruded on our stay or view. Cambridge is lively with lots of music and festivals at the moment what with graduation week and parties but we feel this added to a lovely atmosphere. The price we paid was more expensive than other places I've stayed but this was across the town because of graduation week. Thank you Doubletree for the special touches. Collapse

This expensive hotel is well-located overlooking the River Cam, with gardens so stunning that we saw two weddings take place there. It is also very conveniently located for those who want to visit the historic sites of Cambridge, including the sublime King's College Chapel. It is also very convenient for those, who want to go punting on te River Cam. The room was comfortable and in a quiet location and the bathroom was well appointed. The international staff was generally very helpful. We had a good breakfast in the hotel. We also had lunch in the wonderful gardens but the service was so slow tha the hotel did not charge us for the food. Collapse
