Let me start with the good: The staff was generally helpful and friendly. When my luggage was delayed, the front desk clerk quickly set me up with a toothbrush and razor. The barkeeps and waitstaff in the bar and restaurant were engaging when the topic turned to Scottish gin. I had an excellent steak frites for dinner in the bar. It all goes downhill from there. I never had a truly hot shower during my four-day stay. Colleagues reported similar situations so it wasn't just my room. The TV was geriatric--there was a 1-2 second delay with each click of the remote. Programming was in-and-out with a "weak signal." Wi-fi was slow. The room was generally clean but a bit tight. For example, the electric kettle has to be extracted from under the desk and brought across the room to the bedside table to be plugged in. The gym was well-equipped though suffered from being partially below ground in a wet climate. Windows were clouded with moisture and things felt clammy. The hotel is in a residential area away from the center city. There isn't anything to walk to so you'd best like the food service on property. Breakfast was poor though the other meals were pretty good. Overall, not a great experience. Collapse

I am just home from having a 2 night-stay in this hotel with my wife attending an event and we had the most awful time from the minute we arrived. The rooms are up there with the smallest crammed hotel rooms I have ever stayed in.The room had NO heating a draught coming under our door that was like a Gail force wind, the shower would not heat up until it was running about 10 mins even then it was only Luke warm. We ordered room service to our room for breakfast on Saturday morning for the waiter to turn up with no cutlery and by the time she came back the breakfast was cold. I thought I had seen it all until I ordered a snack burger later on the Saturday to be Horrified that it was completely raw. I went back to reception with this and the manager thanked me for giving him it back and assured me that he would speak with the chef who was working, I was not even offered as much as a refund for the burger or an apology. It only got even more comical when we where told at the bar we would receive a 10% discount as we where part of an event at the hotel but we then got a £20 service charge on our bill when leaving. I would Recommend the hotel start spending some of this money on heating as people where even sitting with jackets on in the bar it was that cold. I have stayed in better premier inns at a fraction of the cost, It’s safe to say we won’t be back !!! Collapse

I stayed here for my anniversary on Saturday night. It was amazing i couldn't fault the hotel or staff in any way. The entire hotel was spotless, on entering we instantly felt very welcome by the reception staff, and the open fire burning away. The room was brilliant with a bottle of chilled procesco waiting for us. Beds were comfy and clean, as was the rest of the room not a spec of dust to be seen. Food was great, we didn't eat in the restaurant, but instead ordered from the bar, service was quick. The bar staff were incredibly friendly, especially the lady who's name i didn't catch, she went above and beyond for us, i would love to give her a special mention and thank you (i know her shift finished at 9pm that night). The following morning breakfast was great a buffet style breakfast we both had a full cooked breakfast with fresh orange, again couldn't fault a thing. We used the health centre after, the sauna steam room and Jacuzzi were great, all very clean as where the changing room. Again staff there were very friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend the doubletree by hilton hotel, and will most certainly be back again without a second thought. Thank you for a great anniversary night. Collapse

The last visit to the hotel I left disappointed. However this trip was so much better. The rooms have improved although a little small noticable when opening the door for room service, made it a little awkward squeeze. There is still things that need doing & maintenance required.. Lights not working in the bathroom and the extract fan was filthy. But Going by the size of the hotel it must be a constant battle to keep it up. Heating system finally works this time But overall I was happy with the cost, rooms and overall service. Room service & food was by far the best part. The lads were doing a fine job ! Wish I had the motivation to go use the pool, so can't give a view on that. Last time it was closed for refurbishment. Negatives. It can be noisy after 7 in a morning with lots of action in the corridors, doors banging & housekeeping starting so early. Same applies to the draining and adjacent rooms which seams to be more noticeable then some hotels I've stayed in. The last visit to the hotel I left disapointed. However this trip was so much better, there is still things that need doing. IE. Lights not working in the bathroom and the extract fan was filthy. Check in could be made simpler and quicker. The staff were excellent but the listening to the same generic chat to each guest checking in before me it seamed pointless. Collapse

We booked a chocolate afternoon tea to celebrate our anniversary for a treat. This wasn't a visit we would be repeating in a hurry. We were the only people in the bar area for the time we were there, and there was a draft blowing through the whole time (I spent part of it with my coat on). There was a new member of staff who was left on her own to try and figure out what to do with afternoon tea as the other member of staff had to serve in another area. The 'chocolate' afternoon tea was simply an afternoon tea with a little pot of chocolate spread added to the spread - disappointing given how it was advertised. We have visited many places for afternoon tea, but wouldn't be rushing back here at all. Collapse
