Stayed four nights & stayed on the top floor (25th). Got the 11A bus from the airport to WanChai upon arrival in Hong Kong. Interesting first experience of Hong Kong. Used taxis for our various excursions which are very inexpensive & also the HK Metro which was cheap & has an extensive network. The Dorsett WanChai hotel is a modern hotel situated adjacent to the Happy Valley racecourse. We went to the races and had a great night. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning on staying in Hong Kong. Collapse

Nice rooms free WiFi but handset in the room to set WiFi a bit difficult to figure out but the staff were very helpful. Very knowledgable about the local area and points of interest to visit. They kindly upgraded our room free of charge overlooking the happy valley racecourse. No racing on unfortunately but great view of the sports pitches to watch rugby, hockey and football. Rooms were very clean and comfortable and breakfast had a vast variety to suit all cultures. Thanks to the staff for your wonderful hospitality. Particularly enjoyed the free cocktails with live music in the reception area. Thanks particularly to Ronald at reception for his assistance when he helped to relocate my lost mobile phone and Tay for her warm welcome to the hotel sharing information with regard to Hong Kong island. Inflexible and not customer focussed

If you don't run into trouble, this hotel will probably be fine. Complimentary pocket wifi is great, the rooms are nice enough (if a bit small and prone to being artic-level cold when you come back after a day out). It's not convenient to anything other than the racecourse, but at least there's a tram stop outside. If you do have a problem, the hotel is not on your side and will not treat you like a customer. Now, my problem was *caused* by my travel agent, but when they were bending over backwards to rectify their error, the Dorsett Wanchai was actively stopping them. The staff either have no latitude or no inclination to be flexible with the hotel's strict policies, and will make you feel like a nuisance. I understand that sometimes nothing can be done, but usually the staff will at least make the effort to appear to be on your side; the Dorsett Wanchai staff do not appear to subscribe to that school of customer service (or any other). Talking with my travel agent, reviewing some of the other low-rating reviews here and listening to other poor customers being shut down at the front desk next to me confirms my suspicions: the hotel is only a good experience if there are no deviations from the standard flow. Anyone who inadvertently trips on one of the hotel's policies runs into a brick wall. Hence my one star review: it's not worth the risk. There are dozens of hotels nearby, try to find one that prioritises customer service instead. I chose Dorsett Wanchai because it's close to our HK office, but there are plenty of others, and I will be using them from now on. Collapse

We had planned a trip to the races and wanted somewhere close to stay. The Dorsett was a great choice , we made use of the early check in option which was greatly appreciated after a 12 hour flight. The rooms that we got were very clean and were good size , the beds were really comfortable and the choices at breakfast were fine. The staff were great , really nice friendly people to deal with. We had a few drinks at the bar , the prices were pretty good , about the same as we pay in Perth. There are plenty of places to have dinner and the club strip in Wan Chai is a 10 minute walk away. You can jump on buses and trams just outside the hotel and the hotel offers a shuttle service. I will stay there again and would recommend it to anybody , especially if you are going to Happy Valley. The breakfast selection in the hotel is quite basic and the hotel has quite a small lobby area. Our room was overlooking the Happy Valley racecourse so had an excellent view of the Hong Kong skyscrapers and surrounding mountains. The room was noisy at night with a constant stream of traffic going through the tunnels underneath which made sleeping difficult, especially if you're a light sleeper. It is about a 10 minute walk to the main area in Wan Chai where you will have a selection of bars, restaurants and markets. I cannot complain about the overall service and value though. Collapse
