As there were only two of us we took the KLIA express to KL Sentral. I had three pieces of luggage but still found the train very convenient. Book your tickets online as there are decent discounts with Mastercard. We ordered out taxi through grab app and within 15 mins we were at Dorset. Taxi driver was friendly and taxi was clean. Dorset kl is centrally located and walking distance to Bukit Bintang where the shops are. Ideal location as you avoid the traffic along Bukit Bintang especially if you are driving. Parking is complimentary at Dorset but parking entry is narrow .Do be careful. I was told by visitors who drove. Hotel has been renovated and I think it is still being done. Lobby seemed bare.Check in was smooth and staff was friendly. Room was huge and was tastefully decorated . There was space for a teo seater couch too. We had a twin room and beds were big and comfortable but pillows too soft . There was a kettle with tea and coffee bags. Daily complimentary bottled water was also provided. Cotton robes and slippers , with ironing board were all available in the room. Decent packaged Toiletries were also provided. I was pleasantly surprised, did not expect this from Dorset. Housekeeping was attentive and prompt too. Towels were old looking but still acceptable. I found the corridors are a tad dim . Dark new carpets were added to the ambience. Wifi is good and I did use it quite a bit . television programs were not good. TV reception was bad too . Anyway I was out most of the time. My Sister with two young kids who arrived two days earlier ordered room service - Spaghetti bolognese .Unfortunately the kids found it oily and meat gristly. But the continental breakfast was good and reasonable priced. We did not head to the buffet breakfast in the first floor. I did not use the pool but the kids did and loved it .Brother in law used the gym and it was decent according to him . Lots of food options - local and international for every budget in this area. Shopping is good but can't compare to Bangkok. Underground and overhead walkways are rare but there is good one that connects farenheit88 via brand outlet to pavilion elite. A lot of shops and eateries there. Everyone goes there. I would recommend Dorset for its location and the new refurbishment . Rooms are big and clean and and you can easily walk to the main area in minutes. Don't bother with cabs. Collapse

Last week, I brought my team of 22 people for our annual team retreat . I am very impressed with Janie from the sales team. She was very diligent and patient over the last 2 months with quite a number of changes. As the function rooms are all booked during our stay we were not able to hold our meeting in the hotel. Janie went the extra mile to secure a place for us even taking photos for me. On the day of our meeting she personally drop me off to the location to make sure that all is well. This is the type of commitment which is out of the world. The hotel have been recently renovated. Nice and refreshing decor. Great location and good service staff. and great breakfast too. I certainly will come back again with my team. Collapse

When we checked in, we were told that we were being upgraded! We were happy to hear that - but when we went to the room, it looked like the standard Dorsett Room that we booked for! We were on the 28th floor - so maybe that's what they meant? Upgrading us to a higher floor? We are still wondering how different it would have been if we were not "upgraded". In any event, we were generally satisfied with the room. It was newly renovated so there was this "new" smell in the corridor but thankfully not in the room. The beds were comfortable and the toilet was new and clean. There were cordless phones in the room - the first i've encountered in all the hotels i've stayed in. Very convenient! The hotel was within walking distance to Pavilion but be warned - if it rains, there is no covered walk-way to the Ritz-Carlton next door (from Ritz-Carlton, it is connected to Star Hill plaza). So because it was raining, we were 'stuck' in the hotel until the rain stopped. Umbrellas were provided but we had a baby and a toddler. But yes, location wise, it's not bad. There were however quite a number of things that spoilt it for us (in addition to the disappointment of being "upgraded"). First - a small thing (but small things distinct a hotel from being very good to being an excellent one). When we checked in, we asked if they have super glue as my wife's sandals was breaking (sole coming apart). We were told they didn't have and that's it. They didn't advise us where we can go to buy it ourselves, they didn't offer to go out of the way to help us. So fine - maybe I expected too much to think they would go out of the way to help us. The hotel was being refurbished. When we tried to get into the parking area, we had to drive past an area where bits of sand (or so i thought) was falling onto the car. When we got back, i found that those bits of sand actually stuck to the car and i had to use my fingernails to scratch them off (see photo). When we tried to use the bathtub, to our horror, the water was murky - brownish, yellowish. We had to get them to come to fix it and they managed to in the end after coming 3 times to look at it. The design of the bath tub could have been better. There was just this glass panel and no shower curtains so if one were to use the rain shower, it is very difficult not to get the toilet wet. When we went for breakfast, it was clear that they appear to be overwhelmed by the large number of people. There were no teaspoon left when i took the coffee. I asked them for it and later, a bunch of teaspoons were just dumped on the counter where the coffee dispenser was. Again, no big deal but it would speak so much of the staff if they had arranged it nicely there. We also note that a number of the staff there do not look friendly - no smiles - and were not very helpful. These were mainly those who were in blazers. When we asked for more drinking water, we were told that we only get 2 bottles. Thankfully for the hotel, there were also some staff who were really nice and friendly. One who was cleaning the next room readily gave us extra towels and shower gels (we used the pool a bit so needed the extra towels and shower gel/shampoo) - together with a nice smile. We wanted to have a late check-out and were allowed to do so at 2 pm. But after 12 noon, our key cards could not be used. So when i went down to put the bags into the car, i realised that i couldn't go up again as the key card was not functioning. One of the bellboys(?) helpfully used his to get me to my floor. Along the way, he was chatting with me in a friendly manner, asking if i had eaten and then asking me to call them if i needed help getting my luggage down. It is staff like these who make the stay a pleasant one. Unless we get a good price to stay here again, we will probably choose Marriot or Ritz-Carlton or Westin if we want to stay in that area again. Collapse
