Although the weather wasn't that hot, it was warm enough for us to brave the short swims in the outdoor pool at our hotel and managed to sun bathe a little bit. The live music with a variety of shows/karaoke in the bar at our hotel was good entertainment in the evenings. Being close to the beach and other amenites makes self-catering holidays ideal. The excurtion to Gibralta making the trip more interesting was arranged through the hotel reception. Collapse

Arrived at Doramar on Sunday mid-day, Got told to come back in an hour and half as our rooms wasn't ready. We was given 2 rooms, 101 & 105. Rooms were clean on arrival, but had no balconies, which was really disappointing!! The apartments are on a hill, which wasn't a problem for us. They are situated in quite a good location only 5-10 minutes walk from the beach. Close to supermarkets, bars and restaurants. The noise at night from the karaoke bar down stairs is just unbearable to sleep in!! I was in room 101 which wasn't great... it's right in reception, you hear everyone coming in at all hours of the night!! You also can't keep the windows open in the room, which I was advised about when I was given the keys, as there is access from the road at the back. We was only leaving at 5.30pm so asked a few days before if we could pay to keep 1 room on, was advised to keep 101, no problem at all there was €20 fee which would be taken out of our €50 deposit (which is paid on arrival). However on the day of checking out we spoke to the guy on reception who told us we couldn't keep the room on!!! He then spoke to a lady who was rude who also said the hotel was full, then said the cleaners leave at 2pm so you can have it till 1pm, then told us we could pay for another night at a €50 fee... so it was fully booked a minute but not now?! so we returned to our room to pack the rest of our things up... then the guy came and knocked to say it was actually on the computer system all along and we could keep the room on after all!!! We had no maid service in the whole 5 days we stayed, and no clean towels or loo roll!! Over all I probably wouldn't stay here again, some staff where friendly, others rude!! Collapse

It's nicely situated in terms of near the marina end of belamadena and close to the lovely beach only (5 min walk)... There is also a supermarket 5 min walk to the left of the strip from the hotel to fill the small sized kitchenette. Although beware it is only a combi oven that doesn't cook things the way you want it to 85% of the time! However the fridge was cold and the freezer actually worked! Air conditioning was also good and the beds weren't that uncomfortable, mostly it was clean but it had only the essentials and was very basic. Shower and bathroom were clean and good. Only downside is the towels are only washed every 5 days and if you are going to the beach/ pool u may need to bring Ur own.. or pay to get them clean more often. The sunbeds at the pool are also not free and you have to pay to use them even if you are staying at the hotel! The general vibe was OK they weren't overly welcoming nor were they horrible they have a room to hold your bags if your appartment is not ready when u arrive however they get rather annoyed if u ask later in the day to get something out of your bags. On our last day (we didn't fly till the late evening and had all day to wait around, also it was horrible stormy weather and we didn't have a car so we were mostly stuck in the dull and mundane bar area downstairs). My partner fell very ill the day before and we saw in the info sheet they left in our room that you could ask for a late check in, so we asked the first receptionist who threw a look and said no we don't do that, i don't know where you saw that, you can only check out at 10am.. So on the day of departure, we went down and asked again the other receptionist if we could stay late and brought the info sheet down with us this time... explaining he was unwell and would benefit if we could just have the room for a little longer that day and she said with minimal sympathy it will cost your deposit (of €50) you left- to stay until 3pm. Which we decided we could not loose and spent the day in the cold bar area downstairs with little activity going on. In terms of evening entertainment, if you like the typical northern lady duo karaoke session then it's the place to be.. but personally wasn't that inspiring and couldn't stay and watch for any longer that 26 mins! The one thing i was rather annoyed about having just arrived there was a surprising €50 deposit that wasn't mentioned before for the key and 2 remote controllers and considering we exchanged our money before we went and were on a tight budget we only brought €150 for the 4 nights we stayed and with 1/3 of that gone we really scrimped. The attitude of the receptionist wasn't great it always made us feel like we were a burden and a nuisance if we were to ask a question. The shop in the hotel was very minimal and all we bought was water from there as it saved us carrying it from the supermarket although the receptionist then said to us you are not aloud to take any products from our shop if the premises in a very strict and patronising voice.. which was very strange! Overall it fit the bill and had the weather of been nicer and we hadn't needed to have the room for longer due to our late flight, and if we had brought more money had we of not been on a budget then it would have been good. As long as you are prepared I'm sure you will enjoy your stay if not the hotel opposite ' The hotel best sirocco' had just been done up and looked lovely! Collapse
