Very nice staff. Helpful and courteous. But this place lacks the tiniest bit of charm and for $300 is outrageous, regardless of its Positano location. Hall carpets are stained and ripped and when I see exterior items such as this then I am concerned about other priorities. There are many $300 range hotels that are far better. Collapse
Definitely not a Royal Hotel!

Don't stay here! It is advertised as a four star hotel, but lucky if it is close to a three! It is also advertised as a 5 minute walk to the beach but it is about a 25 minute walk with about 500 stairs to actually get there. We had two rooms as we are a family of six and basically I cried when we entered our room which was down an old lift then about another 3 floors of walking down stairs to actually get to our rooms which were nearly AUD $400 per night per room that included breakfast, but the breakfast was so bad we had to eat out every morning. The first night we arrived late and hungry so decided to go to their restaurant for dinner which was a bad choice, the waiter was quite abrupt and to our surprise our meals arrived after 5 minutes of ordering them, they were all microwaved and tasteless. The rooms were basic, the bathroom smelt of urine, the safe didn't work and bedding was so bad we all ended up with sore necks and backs from from the rock hard mattresses and lumpy hard pillows. The whole hotel was tired and dirty which desperately needs a major renovation to come close to a four star rating. The carpet through the hotel is thread bare and patched everywhere and one day I saw the cleaner mopping the carpet it was so dirty. The day we had to leave Positano, there was no one there to help with our suitcases, the lift wasn't working, so we had to drag them up around 4 to 5 flights of stairs to reception and then another 20 stairs to get to the road with not one bit of help. We tried ringing other hotels, so we didn't have to stay here but unfortunately all the hotels were booked out and being a family of six didn't help. Unfortunately, This hotel spoilt our first stay in Positano and if we were to go back again, we would definitely stay closer to the town/beach and do our research better. kathryn - Australia Collapse

First, the location. Supposedly .2 miles from city center. Well that is a stretch - maybe as a bird flies. It's down about 400 steps just to the road below that leads to the city center. The photo of the sea is a zoomed in photo. We had to figure out the public bus transportation to avoid walking back up those steps. Then, the room. A family superior sea view room is the one we ended up in after we were first taken to a tiny room that was filled with ants. I sleep on an extra firm mattress but this was one step up from sleeping on the floor. The best was low to the ground, and my daughter slept on a futon, that they had to put an extra mattress on to be comfortable. The bedspreads were extremely old and faded. The facility. Very confusing - and you probably cannot take an elevator to your room. It only goes to a certain floors then you have to navigate the floors which can go from room numbers in the 200s to room numbers in the 900's without going up any stairs. The carpeting in the halls are extremely old, dirty, and worn through in many areas. The pool was lovely, but you can only go in with a pool cap that they will sell you. SPOTTY wifi at best. They say it's only available in reception and the pool. Turns out you cannot sign on anywhere except the terrace of the restaurant with a special sign on. Not having wifi in rooms in just ridiculous in this day and age. I will say Mario in reception was extremely helpful and really tried to make it the best it could be. Collapse

This is a beautiful quirky old hotel! It has real charm with its long windy corridors, beautiful balconies and most amazing pool! It can be an interesting walk to your room with a lift, stairs worlds longest corridor and then stairs again but it is well signed. Breakfast was great, had a good range and good service. Overall the staff were friendly and helpful but not all went out of their way to help. The only thing that let this hotel down was the wifi! They dont have it in the rooms, only in the pool and reception area. the four days we were there it didnt work in the pool area once. it does work in reception but can be frustrating slow a times! especially when you are relying on wifi to organise your trip. It is in a great location with amazing views looking out over the town and the bay, there are two ways to walk to the main areas one with roughly 400 stairs which takes about 10mins or you can follow the road down which takes a good 25mins! i recommend both as both have their own charms. Best pool we came across on our trip its huge with a great relaxing area, you have to wear swimming caps which are 3.50 each but you get to keep them and it helps keep the pool clean. I have read a lot of views about this hotel where people have rated it low as they feel its outdated; yes it could do with a few renovations but if you cant look past that and enjoy the charm and feel of the place I dont think you should come to Positano. If you want a super modern and boring hotel this one is not for you. Collapse
