We have recently just stayed at this hotel to celebrate our anniversary. Prior to arrival, I had contacted the hotel asking if they could by way of celebration upgrade us both for this special occasion. Despite receiving an email advising the hotel would do its utmost to assist our request, no such upgrade was given Upon arrival at approx 2.15pm we were greeted by a male member of staff who was obtuse and aloof in manner and most unwelcoming. He proceeded to advise us adopting a rather surly attitude that we were unable to check in and did nothing to assist us both in helping to store our luggage in an appropriate, safe place until check in time. Our room, when we eventually checked in was basic, (not what you would expect from a 4 star rated hotel), clean and quite spacious. The breakfast was very nice, despite the fact no additional tea/coffee was offered! This morning (when checking out) the hotel room was ringing (it was approx 11.15am) with a member of staff ushering us out of the room as it was just past check out time. I mentioned this to the female member of staff (when checking out) questioningwas there an issue as at the time of the phone call, we were both walking out of the hotel room having completed a last minute check of the room for any potential belongings we may have overlooked to pack! She advised there was no problem, except to say that she was wondering where we were as we were late checking out! I pointed out to her, we had visited Gent many, many times and stayed at many different hotels and had never encountered such surly, unwelcoming and unhelpful attitude from hotel staff! She did not apologise in anyway and neither did she do anything to suggest that this hotel is happy to be 'rid of its guests' immediately the clock strikes 11am! We will both not be returning to this hotel again as it appears to be a common theme about the attitude and surliness of some of the hotel staff! It will be the Marriott hotel for us both next time we visit, having stayed there before it is in a different league to this unwelcoming hotel! Such a shame, as some of the staff we encountered were nothing but friendly! Really spoilt our anniversary celebrations so thank you for that Hotel De Flandre!! Collapse

We stayed one night in room113 in historic building. The room and bathroom were very clean, the beds big and comfortable( a bit too soft). We had kind of open terrace in front of our room facing the inner yard. In the night it was very quiet( I guess in hotels closer to restaurants nose might be the issue). I wrote couple of mails to hotel before booking directly and they answered immediately. They gave recommendation about parking, as historic part of the city is now closed for cars. So we followed there recommendation and parked at Ramen street ,which is very close, just for 14€ a day. We also payed just delux double room and additional bed they put for our child free of charge. Breakfast ( for €21) we did not take, . At walking distance there are several cafeterias, where it would be quality for less money. In bathroom you will find good basic cosmetic set. And in a room there is tea/coffe set. Our coffe machine didnt work, but for a short stay we didnt care. Collapse

Family of four (2 adults 1 toddler 1 baby) for a day trip on our way through the Low Countries. We got a really nice loft room which was spread across two floors. Lots of character and offered stunning views of the City. The drawbacks-was very hot and I didn't think the air conditioning was working. The fact that a small portable air conditioner was provided didn't help as it was a bit too loud. Kept one window open through the night to keep the bedroom cool. Secondly, there are no facilities on the bedroom level, so to use the hot water kettle it was several journeys up and down. Good for exercise but was a slight nuisance, especially in the dark. Would not really recommend the loft for families with young children. Finally, no free parking onsite but there is a public car park not far away. Enjoyable stay and great location, but for the price one or two upgrades would be nice. Carpets looked a bit dated and floor had a gradient - quaint for sure but not really my thing. Collapse

Nice hotel with a great breakfast. We've had a quick visit to Gent and it's wonderful old city centre. We arrived early morning and it was no problem to leave our luggage at the reception and start exploring Gent. Later in the afternoon, we came back to check-in. The room we received was big and quite nice although not really reflecting the very nice interior at the entrance, reception en buffet areas of the hotel. We have had a nice stay and would come back here. Location and breakfast are a big plus! Collapse
