Hotel was quite centrally located to various sites. The staff were not over friendly, the breakfast was satisfactory. There was no English channel on the TV. It would have been nice to have had a lounge with coffee/tea machine to perhaps have a cup of coffee or tea after a day walking around. The bus system is very adequate and very cheap but it is best to see Rome walking around. Collapse

Just back 5/8 from this hotel. My wife booked the Hotel D'este for 3 nights in Rome as a 65th Birthday present for me in February. We arrived, We started to check in, and were told that we were being moved to a newly purchased hotel Hotel Montreal next door, and we had been given a larger room. My wife was not happy about being moved, we trudged next door, to be confronted by an entrance to a building site. In the entrance hall, concrete and brick rubble was against the wall, cardboard was lain across the floor and up the stairs to this hotel's reception and there was a haze of brick dust all around , The Larger room was on the ground floor, it was dark, drab, and had an unpleasant smell in it. This was defiantly not acceptable. So back to reception, where we were told we could have our original (smaller) room, we went to look at it. It was defiantly a single room with a double bed shoved against the wall. Back to reception, where my wife was now getting upset. We told them that she had booked in February, so expected what she paid for, we were then told that they had had technical problems and these things happen. Take it or leave it. We were then offered a third room next door for one night then we could have a room in the D'Este?. Back again next door. This was a larger room this was better than the first, so said that it would do for now. 10mins later we found the toilet would not flush, I went to reception. One of the reception staff said he would get someone to look at it. So off we went to do some sightseeing. We came back and the entrance hall had been cleaned up and the floor had been mopped, but there was still a dust haze around. We found the reception man tinkering with the toilet, saying its taking a long time to fill, I will get a workman to look at it, off we went to Dinner. When we returned the toilet flush mechanism cover was in the sink, and no working toilet. My wife was really upset at this stage so off I went aging to sort it out. I told the reception guy what was wrong , keeping cool and calm and told him I was not happy . He then gave me a fourth key to another room ( still next door) which was a quadruple room. It still looked drab and dingy, but it did not smell and it had a functioning toilet, so we moved in there. Next morning we went to Hotel D'este to have breakfast ( In the Montreal no food was available, and to be honest if it had been I would not have eaten it, the patio breakfast room was dirty, it had overgrown plants and as building work was being carried out right above the patio a dust cloud was descending on it) the guy on reception said to bring our cases back to D'este, I said No, we were staying were we were as it was now only for two nights. So what can I say about Hotel D'etse. breakfast was ok for a 3 star hotel, the foyer was clean. That's it. Since our return I have trawled through the reviews of both hotels and what happen to us has happen to a number of customers, so be warned, Collapse

The view from our room was great. Wake up every morning to a lively Rome, and we could see a building that looked good. Aircondition was working thankfully, you REALLY need that on the summer there.. Breakfast was free and every morning from 0730 to 10 am. Variation on breakfast was ok from a town hotel, it's not like when you are on vocation on tropical locations like Canary Islands. One thing they should have is a toaster since the bread was always dry. Not even butter could save it. There was sweets and other stuff too, like dry sponge cake for café. We wanted to pay for the hotel stay right away, but we didn't and i am glad for that, because we paid the city fee the day before we left since we were leaving very early, even thou we wanted the prepay the whole amount, he only charged the city fee and the day after when we were going ti leave, we had to pay the same city fee again which was 36 euros (not big deal, but still). Since we were in a hurry, we did not see this until we saw the receipt on the Airport. It was like he never got or had written down that we had prepaid. Imagine if we had paid the whole amount twice. We just let this slide, but a 3 star hotel is a 3 star hotel i guess. Collapse

Brilliant location, a few minutes walk from the Coliseum and a minutes walk to the nearest metro which takes you to all the key locations. Plenty of restaurants about and a super market on the same road. Room; Me and my partner went for a simple double room with continental breakfast. We ended up changing rooms. Our first room was a lovely cosy room with a double bed, an interestingly beautiful view of apartments, free air on, fridge, dressing table, large wardrobes and a large bathroom. - unfortunately the staff never read my special requests and gave me a bath and not a shower. This lead to us changing rooms and due to us complaining it felt like they gave us the most disgusting room in the hotel! The room was roughly the same layout but everything was broke and the bathroom stank horrendously. The room was on the second floor with minimum sunlight, broken curtains, broken bedroom boards and outdated decor. And again the smell of the bathroom was revolting! The change to this room acutely took 3 days so when we found out about the state we decided not to complain but to ask to upgrade. The answer was no because the better rooms are for bigger customer groups which was understandable. Breakfast - Average breakfast of pastries, bread, ham, cheese, cereal, yoghurt but nothing to mine or my partners taste.. all tasted a bit odd. 7:30-10:00am Service - Apart from the day of the room change the staff were lovely and welcoming! Always greeted us with hellos and byes and gave us useful information of how to get to places and gave us a map of the metro system ( ask for one when staying in Rome it's so useful!) Extra - Wifi - on and off every half a hour or more. Reachable from all floors TV - Our second tv we had only had one English speaking Chanel on and the remote was unable to take us to the menu - so I would recommend you to bring a laptop or tablet for entertainment. City tax - don't forget about this as there was no notice when arriving at the hotel so thankfully we remembered ourselfs and kept money aside ( €4 pp/pn) Water - shower temperature was temperamental BRING YOUR OWN HAIRDYER! I was there for over 40 minutes trying to use it! Never again!! Acsess - lift and stairs and wheelchair ramp into hotel Recommendations - There is a cute little snack cafe down the road, I've attached a photo of it below! - just type it into google maps.... It's about a 7 minute walk and it's so cheap and no service charge! I got a pizza the size of a laptop for just over €3, my partner got a huge baguette for €5. They have tons of pastries , deserts, drinks, pizzas, make your own salads etc. It's defiantly worth a visit if your on a budget! Me and my partner went for a week for my 18th birthday, we wish the stay could have been more pleasant room wise but you get what you pay for! When staying in rome it's so impotent to either put a lock on your bag or don't take one at all when out and about! Collapse

Beware! we got shafted with this place. Booked and confirmed our last night in Rome months ago as a family room (1 queen and 2 singles for kids). Upon arrival we are told it was booked out and we had to stay in the hotel next door, "is the same hotel" the manager told us "is 3 star". I think not! There was no double room available so we had to stay in 2 separate rooms at opposite end of the hotel! Had to split up with one each kid. Yes, I hear you, "just move" but at 6pm we weren't about to try find last minute accomodation. Rooms are absolutely nothing like the rooms displayed on website! Really old, horribly hot. 3 star - unlikely, tick the box: Air conditioning; tick (but not really working, room was around 30oC even after leaving on all day); mini bar; tick (didn't work). Tiny rooms, old and horrible. Included breakfast was next door at original hotel, which was much nicer. Typical Italian bulls*t. Avoid this place. Collapse
