We stayed in the Crowne Plaza for there nights, to catch up on some sunshine before winter sets in. We dislike high-rise style hotels, so we were a little concerned before arrival. We needn't have been concerned at all. On arrival (at 10am) we were booked in early and the receptionist fulfilled our request for quiet room. She also gave us great recommendations for local cuisine, and breakfast in particular. The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the Marina in Vilamoura, and about 10 minutes walk from the town of Quarteira. We sampled the hotel buffet two of the evenings - in truth we tried it the second night with average expectations based on experiences in other hotels - but it was so good, we went back on the third evening. The acid test is, would we go back. Yes, in a heart beat. Thanks to all of the Crowne Plaza team for looking after us so well. Collapse

In February I booked a 2-bed Deluxe Sea View room for a 2-week holiday in October and the day before our arrival received an email confirming our "preferences" which showed our Room Type as Junior Suite Frontal Sea View Non Smoking. On checking in on 4 October we were told this was a mistake but that we had got a Deluxe room on the 10th floor overlooking the Marina with sunset view, as per our original booking. I am an IHG Platinum Elite member so was a tad disappointed especially in view of some posts/reviews on here from people who were upgraded from a superior room to a Junior Suite! Our room was good but the bed linen was changed infrequently and the towels were tatty, thin, and very small. Nor was the floor cleaned very well and although on arrival the shower glass was sparkling it never got cleaned again the whole fortnight. Just not good enough for a 5*. I have to confirm what previous reviewers have said about continual shouting and occasional fights in the early hours of the morning outside the front entrance, the first of which woke us up on a Sunday morning at 5 a.m. and then drunken singing at 2 a.m. a few days later. We were on the 10th floor at the beach end so glad we weren't on a lower floor. No sign of anyone in the hotel trying to stop this. Seagulls were being fed by some people sitting round the pool and as a consequence we were "splashed" as we lay on our sunbeds on the grass as they flew off after their "meal" and swim in the pool. On many occasions there were 20 or 30 gulls drinking and defecating in the pool. Again no sign of management attempting to control this. Also the drunk golfers who were drinking at the Pool Bar from 10 a.m. and then quickly entering the pool to urinate as they couldn't be bothered to go down to the WC at the other end of the pool area. Actually saw one of them urinating behind the Pool Bar. Again no sign of any management intervention. The pool is cold but obviously not the best place to swim with urine and pigeons' mess in it. On a more positive note, the front-line staff on Reception and throughout the hotel were absolutely brilliant - very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Just a shame that middle and senior management appear to be totally invisible and leave their teams to take the flak from disgruntled residents. There is no signage anywhere in the hotel and on our first day we had to keep asking where everything was - the pool WC for instance is virtually hidden from view and far too far from the Pool Bar! The white wine at the Pool Bar is almost warm and despite several requests for a really chilled glass, none was forthcoming. It tasted awful and was over-priced. There is no information pack in the rooms but you can get some info on the TV and can check your room account. Vilamoura is ideal for the many golfers in the hotels but other than that there is not much to do or see. The beach is hardly visible from the pool area and was also disappointing. I was hoping for something similar to Armacao de Pera beach at the Holiday Inn but it does not compare. We had a very noisey family in an adjoining room close to the end of our stay who kept us awake all night. The Duty Manager did address this problem and was most helpful. The very loud and vulgar behaviour of some hotel guests was appalling. It is worth noting that this is a very large hotel with at least double and sometimes treble (and perhaps more) occupancy per room. Collapse

Booked this room for myself and my partner and another for my mum and dad. We were upgraded free of charge from superior rooms to junior suites overlooking the sea which was fantastic. I have stayed in most of the 4 and 5 star hotels in Vilamoura over the years and would undoubtedly say the rooms are the best I've stayed in. The pool area is lovely. The one thing I would say is I wasn't keen on the club sandwich at the restaurant (nor was my dad or partner) but that could be down to personal taste. The indoor pool facilities are also great. Definitely recommend. Collapse

Good location in Vilamoura. Easy walking distance to Marina. Hotel was clean, service was very good. just what you would expect from a Crowne Plaza. Staff friendly in all parts of the hotel. Breakfast had a very good selection to suit all tastes.

The hotel is functional but despite everything being good, it just felt that something was missing and I just can't put my finger on it. We had a great stay and loved every minute. Collapse
