Passable hotel, poor Crowne Plaza

The hotel is conveniently located at the Sondrio metro station and can be reached by a short 10 minute walk from the central train station. The reason why I chose this hotel was due to it's convenient location, because I love the IHG brand, and because of of my good experiences with the Crowne Plaza brand while travelling abroad. Unfortunately I must say that this stay did not meet my expectation of what a Crowne Plaza should be nor of what a 4 star hotel should be. Most of the staff we met along the way, in particular housekeeping and the breakfast servers was always friendly but from walking in the door there wasn't the usual friendly IHG rewards welcome nor acknowledgement of status. On the contrary, when I asked why I didn't get any member benefits, the reply was "you got your points didn't you?". And upon checkout when asked how my stay was, I replied "not really satisfied" and there was 0 reaction. Not even a "why?". Going upstairs to the room was a big let down to the Crowne Plaza standard. The rooms are spotlessly clean but are tiny, dark, and the floors, furniture, etc. have seen much better days in the past. The temperature control is inoperable and the rooms are too cold for comfort. To make matters worse the duvet is light, and if you want to warm up with a hot drink, the room only comes with 1 of each type of drink (tea, coffee, cocoa) so you and your partner must pick and choose who drinks what...if both want coffee... too bad. Also only 1 person may use the single bathrobe in the room which was made and paid for 2 people. This is pathetic for 150 Euros per night. Breakfast was fine and the selection was nice, so in the mornings I looked forward to escape the room to have breakfast. The positive sides are that the pillows are comfortable and the bathroom is nice. Overall I wouldn't recommend to stay here. The quality of accommodation is poor value for money, you're not in the city center, and the price is far too high. Collapse

Nice weekend break. The room was nice and the bed comfortable. I had a good experience. Just one problem, the free internet is painfully poor. I had to pay for premium internet service, as I had my daughter with me. We had a few issues connecting to the premium internet too. If it was not for the internet, I would have rated 5*. Please sort the Internet issue, I would love to stay in the near future. Collapse

Hotel is worn out, room furnitures are all damaged, there are even holes in the curtains, the hard wood floor is full of dents and scratches, this hotel needs a refurbishment urgently ! As a regular there I've seen it ageeing in the past 10 years, but time has come that, for the price they charge, the owners will at least provide a brand new look to the bed rooms. Common area still look fine. The room cleanliness was not perfect neither; when I checked in I found white powder in a corner and a shoe trace next to the bed. They recognized it and discounted the total check for that. The room temperature could not be properly adjusted in Room 806 (Corner room), and remained cold, despite on 24/24 and set on 26c, it never really went above 23c (it was 2c outside) The bathroom remains nice, albeit the wooden furniture is tired there too. The closet in the 806 do not allow to stack shirts, there are no drawers neither, so I used my suitcase for flat packed shirts. The room had a decent size, but I could hear my neighbour sneezing at 7 AM across the connecting door. All that for 150Euro a night? Internet worked well, staff is very friendly, and the hotel has a parking in the back, but it cost 20Eu a night. Avoid the costly breakfast at the hotel, coffee is triple at the bar that at the next door cafe, where you can have a decent Italian breakfast (Staff goes there too) Commuting to the hotel is very easy; and that remain its main or only interest, the metro station is directly next to it, 5 meters from the front door. Crowne Plaza Hotel Milan City is well located, though not exactly in the downtown area. It is near the main train station but still a substantial walk away from it (especially painful when dragging heavy bags!). The rooms are well-sized but overall the hotel seems old and dated. We dont have any real outstanding memories of our stay, but no complaints or negative points to highlight either. I think this is a good hotel considering the price point, size and location. Collapse
