We booked this hotel for 2 nights as part of a BA City Break holiday and because it was so much cheaper than the central Amsterdam hotels we'd stayed at previously. We waited patiently outside the terminal for the free shuttle bus and watched as numerous other luxury minibuses for what seemed to be every other hotel came and went (and came back again in soime cases) but eventually, a large bus came and it was apparent that it was shared between 2 other hotels in the Hoofddorp area. It was already quite full when we arrived at 10:00 but the driver accomodated the 4 of us and our luggage. The Crown Plaza is the last hotel of the 3 to be picked up or dropped off to so we had quite a trek around the industrial estates of Hoofddorp to drop off all the other passengers and eventually arrived at the Crowne Plaza. It's quite an imposing looking building and is located in an industrail area, next door to the Crocs shoes head office. Once inside the reception area, things were OK. IT was clearly once very good and I can imagine that 25 years ago it was the height of luxury. The decor was a little worn but the staff were smartly dressed and check in was completed quickly. As check in is normally at 15:00, we were fully expecting to have to leave our bags and head unto Amsterdam centre for a while until our room was available but despite being before 11:00 AM when we arrived, the lovely receptionist said that a room was already clean and vacant so we could go in early. This was a great bonus and our 3rd floor room was spacious, clean and had excellemnt heating and air conditioning. Although we'd requested no minibar (you'd be amazed how much of a bill a couple of children can incur), there was a complimentary bottle of water and some tea / coffee / biscuits etc. The room had a few minor niggles such as a blown lamp in the bathroom, a wobbly shower rail and a toilet that was soon in danger of detaching from the wall, it was OK. The safe didn't work either but the Samsung TV and entertainment was gfood and there was a selection of English language programming to keep us busy. We only stayed 2 nights, and didn't sample the breakfast as €22 is pretty extortionate for a buffet. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and we had no problems whatsoever. There was a lovely looking (in the brochure) swimming pool but this appears to have closed down indefinitely now and wasn't mentioned by anyone which was a shame. To get to Amsterdam Central station from the hotel, it's a 10 minute walk to nearby Hoofddorp station where you can enter from the nearest end after buying a ticket from the machine. It was €18 each way for 2 adults and 2 children and is just 3 or 4 stops. The ticket machine takes coins and credit/debit cards and has instructions in English and Dutch so was quite easy to use and trains were very frequent. It was also a 20 minute walk into the shopping/restaurant zone of Hoofddorp with a selection of great restaurants at about 1/2 price of the downtown Amsterdam tourist trap area! Checkout was swift and efficient with no problems and we took the (very full) shuttle back to Schipol when we left, but all had to stand as there were no seats free. What was mildly niggling is that the Hotel has 2 branded minibuses (17 seats or so) which were regularly in use to collect and drop people off but these were clearly not available to the general guest as several attempted to get on when they arrived outside but were quickly dismissed by the driver, yet others were ushered on board. Nobody knew who you had to be to use them! Minor niggles aside, it's a decent enough hotel and if you don't mind a bit of walking to get anywhere interesting, it's great value. Collapse

I took the free shuttle from the airport. It stops at an additional 2 hotels before reaching the CP. Check-in was painful, it took 15 minutes to reach the check-in desk, and I was only 1 person back in the queue. There is mention of a swimming pool, and the revolving door pictures show a lady enjoying the pool - it is closed down! The room was very nice. The club lounge was average, and unattended. The fridge ran out of some soft drinks and beer, and the canapes went quickly also. Guests were calling down to ask for refills. The hotel was overbooked when I stayed, and a family at check-in were being walked. There were large tour groups in, so I was unable to book a table for the party at the restaurant - good tip, don't bother with the hotel food, 10 minutes walk and you have the choice of 15-20 restaurants. I'd probably choose the Hilton next to the airport next time. Collapse

I was not impressed with the poor quality of my most recent stay at the Crown Plaza Schiphol Amsterdam. The room was dirty and quite disgusting. I checked in on 3/23 at approximately noon local time (0600 my time), and had booked it for 2 nights. There should have been no rush to clean a room that I hadn't yet checked in to (I had paid for the previous night to ensure that I had a room upon arrival). The footstool was stained. The bed's decorative 'shawl' was stained. The sink was stained. The tea kettle was broken and rusty (but still functional). Two of four pillows and the comforter had hair on it. I found all of this upon check in. As it was 0600 my local time - and having been up all night – I chose to simply mitigate what I could and address the matter it here. I have stayed at the hotel before and was not impressed with the quality of the room- but this was far below the level of previous stays. I made sure to take some photos to serve as evidence of it. Be sure to check them out (gross). Additionally, but wholly unrelated, the hotel has opted to close the pool and hot tub with no explanation as to when or if it will reopen. I asked and the front desk staff said that it was closed - but did not know why it had been closed or if it would ever open again. A mistake in my opinion, but if it is to be closed permanently- I suggest and update and expansion of the gym. It is woefully underwhelming and in dire need improvement. There are a number of better hotels in the area. Opt for ANY of them. Lastly, website for the hotel states that the gym offers a rower and step stepper – neither of which are to be found in the already cramped gym. There isn't the physical room to add either of those machines - let alone both. Collapse
