We have just returned from a one week stay at Hotel Croatia. We booked the family room and the Manager, Sara, verbally advised us in April that we would most likely be able to stay in this room the full week. Another family had booked the room for one night mid week, but Sara, the Manager expected to find another solution for them. A few days before our arrival, we were informed that no solution had been found and so we would have to move rooms in the middle of our stay. Fair enough, we accepted this graciously and moved rooms twice on Wednesday and Thursday morning. The seaside room is far inferior to the family room (two rooms) and so were surprised on check out to see that the single room was 10 Euros extra. The room is noisy at the front of the hotel and the shutters were permanently closed and so you get no benefit from the sea view. We asked Sara to waive the extra 10 Euros as a commercial gesture for all our inconvenience, but she did not take kindly to this suggestion. We accept that we received the pro forma invoices prior to arrival, but these were in Euros and the invoice on departure was in Kuna. It is therefore very difficult to quickly make the comparison. In any case, there was no point arguing over 10 Euros and so we settled our bill and checked out. The real problem started now. We booked our transfer to and from Split Airport via the hotel. They advertise a transfer service and told us that the driver they use, Hari, has worked for them for some time and always given full satisfaction. Our experience is quite different. The trip to Baska Voda went fine but then Hari quoted a different price for the journey - 87 EUR instead of 80 EUR. The receptionist confirmed that Hari was right. We ended up paying 85 EUR because no-one had the right change. No receipt was offered or received. The misunderstanding would be sorted out during the week and the balance paid on return to Split. On the day of the return journey the driver arrived at the hotel. We placed our bags in his minivan and then my husband confirmed the return price with him as had been quoted by Sara, the Manager. Hari agreed the price of 160 Euros return. So, my husband replied that we would pay him 75 Euros as we had already paid him 85 Euros the previous Saturday, on arrival in front of the hotel receptionist. Hari then claimed that we had not paid him any money the previous week. This is a blatant lie. However, of course, it is our word against his. We approached the hotel receptionist, but unfortunately he could ''no longer remember seeing us make the payment despite the previous week's discussion about the correct fare. How convenient. Now the hotel have changed their mind and said that the receptionist entered in the hotel log that no payment was made... More lies! Understandably if the hotel has a long-standing commercial relationship with Hari they will want to protect it rather than siding with one-off guests but the lies and changes of story on their side makes us think the hotel and its staff are at best shady individuals and best avoided. Anyway, we have learnt our lesson the hard way, please make sure you book your transfers through reputable companies, suntransfers, hoppa.com etc. Of course, Hotel Croatia say this has never happened before, but just make sure you don;t become the next victim.... We had a marvelous stay at Hotel Croatia! A nice, bright, clean and spacious room where we lived comfortably for one week. Wi-Fi works everywhere. The terrace, where you can eat the abundant and fresh breakfast ist cozy. The staff is simply extraordinary. All staff members, Anna, Larry, Svone and Ante were very friendly and always ready to help. We can only recommend this 'oasis' in the middle of Baska Voda. Collapse

I was hesitating to visit Croatia. After 3 unsuccessful attempts to make nice holiday in this country from 1990's primarily due to unfriendly staff, bad food and poor cleanness, this was the opposite experience. From invitation until check out all people in the hotel were very friendly, we have no single problem with anything. Hotel smelled from cleanness since i stepped in, smiley staff at reception, in the breakfast room. Breakfast was rich and tasty. Great fresh bread, on demand omelette or some other dishes... I want return there for sure. Recommended 100%. Collapse
