Fantastic room, warm and genuine service, beautiful location, world class food, thoroughly enjoyed every minute. We had breakfast in our room but after we popped in to see the breakfast room and saw the superb breakfast buffet offering we will definitely be going down to the restaurant for breakfast on our next visit. We had a delightful mid-week stay here. The house and setting are beautiful and unlike some country house hotels very easy to access. When one pays for quality accommodation it is the little things that should stand out as well as the big ones. The rooms had proper sized drinking glasses and coffee/tea mugs. The bedding was superb as was the lighting. As for the big things, the service provided by the staff - all the staff - was the best we have ever experienced in a 4-star/5-star hotel. The food was excellent. Over our stay the evening meals were graced by perfectly prepared starters - scallops, pig cheeks, celeriac volute; the mains included sirloin and expertly prepared fish. The black cherry sorbet was the best we have ever had anywhere. Breakfast is well presented and the variety impressive. We will be back to Crathorne Hall. Collapse

For our wedding anniversary my sister kindly bought my wife and myself afternoon tea at Crathorne Hall. The staff were friendly and we were directed to a most pleasant room with comfortable armchairs and nice views of the garden. We had choice of cafetière coffee or tea so my wife had coffee and I had Earl Grey tea. The coffee had some bits in (obviously escaped the plunger) but this was promptly replaced with apologies. The waiter was very attentive and obliging, revisiting us a couple of times to ask if all was well. On his last visit he offered more tea and coffee if we required it. Full marks for service. The food was pleasing, sandwiches were tasty, cakes varied and the rhubarb and custard trifle was pleasant. The scones were a little well done but still fresh. As our appetite is not what it used to be we were unable to consume everything and we were supplied with a box to take away items for later enjoyment. We would recommend afternoon tea at Crathorne Hall. Collapse

Having read a few of the latest reviews, I have to wonder where they have stayed before. I have travelled the UK for many years staying at a wide variety of hotels. I am certainly not known for nice reviews and can be likened to a rotweiller at times, but on this occasion I have to say that this hotel hit the spot even if the free bottle of champagne had not been part of the offer. My wife and I had each been given a voucher and were using them whilst on a trip around the UK. We were originally booked in for Sunday and Monday but a change of circumstances meant we had to reroute and the hotel were able to accomodate us for the Friday and Saturday although it meant we would not be in the Bridal suite for both nights as they had a wedding on the saturday. We however were not bothered by the Bridal suite and they put us in the Ormersby Suite which has the 4 poster bed. The room was wonderrful, the bathroom an absolute delight and the other little extras amazing. On our arrival they asked when we wanted the champagne which was duly delivered to our room in an ice bucket accompanied by 18 beautiful strawberries dipped in a wonderful chocolate. When we went to dinner we were asked if we would like to have a drink in the bar whilst we looked at the menu and chose our meals. The hotels bar is not one where you can sit at, it is in a room off a lounge where you sit and a waiter attends to your needs. Our drinks were exactly as we ordered and we enjoyed the ambience whilst we looked at the choice of food. I noticed a comment in an earlier review of a guest paying £38 for a screwtop bottle of Shiraz which he felt was about £7.50 from a supermarket. I really feel I need to take issue with this as there are a considerable selection of better wines than Shiraz priced either slightly lower than or just slightly more than £38 and had the guest spoken to the Sommelier I am sure he would have changed it. When I requested a wine off the List it was not available and he immediatly asked me what other types of wine we enjoyed. He realised immediatly that we did have a fair knowledge of wines and then stated that the hotel had some bin ends which he could let us have at considerably reduced prices and on the third night when we had drunk the last two bottles of a particular wine he invited me to the wine cellar and asked me to have a look to see if there was anything that might interest my palate. None of the red or white wines we chose cost more than the £38 shiraz and we certainly drank some very interesting wines. The sommelier could not have been more helpful and if we did not finish the wine with our meal it was carefully brought to us in the lounge to consume after dinner. The menu offered a good choice of starters mains and desserts and the presentation and quality were superb. We enjoyed the two days so much that we stayed a 3rd night at the full price without the champagne offer. This is the first time my wife and I have stayed at a Hand Picked Hotel and to be sure it will not be the last. We will be returning with my extended family next year and also trying some of the other hotels in the group.I must also say that the grounds of the hotel are really worth spending sometime walking around and as for weddings and noise, well there was as I have mentioned earlir a wedding at the hotel on the Saturday. The function room is well away from the lounge/bar and dining room and even though we retired early we were not disturbed by any noise.. Collapse
