Stayed here for a night in a lovely room overlooking the gardens. I'm leaving this review not to criticise but to feedback so hope it's taken in this manner. There's much good about it, and I will return - staff are friendly, our room was lovely, the building is beautifully set, and it's a very peaceful place. There are however, small things that ought to be reviewed and improved upon . 1) Our room carpet wasn't well hoovered. There were bits and crumbs in various places. 2) There was no breakfast card in the room 3) There was no pen in the room to fill in the breakfast card requested. 4) There was only one bath robe in the wardrobe. These things should be, in my opinion tended to prior to it being let, and there should be a formal system which ensures they are not overlooked. We look forward to staying again soon. Collapse

We visited Crathorne Hall to attend a wedding, so this review has two parts since we stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights. Crathorne Hall is absolutely stunning and set in the most beautiful grounds. The weather was sunny and bright and was lovely to explore and see the spring flowers beginning to bloom. The Wedding: The wedding was simply lovely, it appeared well organised, the wedding breakfast was enjoyable and in such a perfect setting, it was a joy, a truly enjoyable and memorable day. Hotel stay: Our actual stay at the hotel, however, was very disappointing. Being an old building, there are many stairs, and I did ask if we could have a room on the first floor, so not to have to climb too many stairs after breaking my ankle last year. We were given one of the Disabled rooms that is barely suitable for a disabled person let alone an able bodied person. This room had so many faults and having read previous reviews, the hotel management were well aware of the issues. The bathroom looked lovely but completely impractical: shiny, slippery floor in the bathroom, very low sink and mirror where an able bodied person had to bend awkwardly, shower curtain too high so the water poured underneath, sink too close to the toilet where a tall person could barely get their legs under. The bedroom is located above the dance floor of where the wedding was located the following day. However, the first night we were there, they had a birthday party and we had the misfortune to be directly above and the music from the Ceilidh, sounded great but we might as well have invited ourselves to the birthday party since the music was so loud. Singing 'Waltzing Matilda' at 11.30pm was not quite the relaxing evening we had in mind prior to the wedding day! Unless you are going to the party, do not have this room if there is a party going on and music. The bedroom had a standard double bed (4'6") even though their website claims that all standard rooms either have a king or superking bed which is untrue. This is not so good when your husband is 6'3" and the bed is only 6' long! The bed was ok but not the most comfy and the duvet, far too warm. The windows in the room were all very high, with the bottom window ledges about four feet off the ground, if you were in a wheelchair, there is no way you could ever see out. Worse still, was that the bottom window panes on all the windows had a 'blur' plastic, so that you could not see out of them. The beautiful woodland outside was completely obscured. Having looked from the outside, this was the only room with them on. If this was for privacy, then I'm not sure who they were trying to protect, wheelchair users couldn't see out anyway. This was awful to say the least. We found the coffee/tea/cups under the TV in a cupboard, there is no way a disabled person would ever manage to get this out. Other silly things, the wardrobe wasn't particularly tall, my dress for the wedding was too long and wouldn't fit in it, so had to be hung outside. The hairdryer was on a shelf at the top the wardrobe, a disabled person would never reach this. Overall, the room could be so much better and much more user friendly for both able and disabled people. Our first morning down to breakfast, we arrived at 9.45pm and was told that there were no more tables available and could we wait. Whilst we waited, we wandered along to Reception and explained the problems we were having with our room and asked to see the duty manager, who was not available at the time. We explained that we were going to the wedding and would catch up later. We eventually got into breakfast well after 10am and found one croissant and one choc au pain left. However, the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon were delicious and so was the Egg Benedict. The service was ok but not particularly relaxing, which was surprising since the view and the room were lovely. Our last morning after breakfast, we went back to Reception to find the duty manager. We discussed with him our problems including the noisy room on Friday, the double bed, the disabled room etc. He acted as though he had never heard of these problems before, however, reading through previous reviews, these issues have been highlighted by other guests. He was under the impression that we had changed rooms, but this did not happen but as we were at the wedding. We were offered a £25 per night reduction on a room rate of £120 the first night and £150 the second night. This was a kind gesture but in terms of value and enjoyment of the two night stay, this was disappointing. We stayed at the Doubletree in Newcastle (see other review) the night before and in terms of value and sleep/comfy. This was far better than Crathorne. We loved the wedding in every way. Would we return as a guest to this hotel? Very unlikely. Collapse

A beautiful setting for an overnight stay whilst meeting up with old friends. Receptionist staff were polite, courteous and very helpful.
