This was once, obviously, a wonderful hotel but attention to detail, unfortunately, has now fallen by the wayside. Our first room on the second, annexed floor, via the lift then up a short precipitous flight of stairs was very small with little room to put our baggage. It had been decorated nicely but not completed as the woodwork on the door and window sills hadn't been done. It had lovely UPVC sash windows but unfortunately the view from them was of a rusty old fire escape. We found the bed extremely soft and requested a different mattress or room, but were told that the hotel was fully booked. Neither my partner, nor I, slept that night as we were so uncomfortable. After being shown five alternative rooms, the following morning, we found one, although lacking a telephone, that had a wonderfully comfortable bed. That was where we spent our second night. I'd like to thank the lady on reception who took the trouble to show us so much concern and changed our accommodation. We found the food was nicely presented and the staff friendly but overworked. Because of a wedding being catered for, the bar never seemed to have anyone behind it. Craiglands is positioned in a wonderfully strategic spot for walking on the moors or down into the town centre and because of this and the conscientious staff, we would stay again. Collapse

Not sure where to begin but this was a valentines gift booked for 1 night, we called up to book after paying through Groupon it took us 5 times to get through but better late than never! Paid the £15 supplement as it was a Saturday and got the confirmation email confirming it was for the date we wanted. Got there they couldn't find the booking? Luckily (the lady on reception said) they had a couple of spare rooms, she gave us the key for one but when we went up it was already occupied! Nightmare! Went back down she offered us a room that was a double but our Groupon deal said executive so we asked for this and got it. We were asked if we wanted to go to the Murs meets Buble tribute for £15 per person which we rejected and then was offered to go just for entertainment after our usual Groupon meal for £15 for both which we accepted but when we got down there another couple had been offered the same thing but for no charge so we didn't pay the additional £15. Breakfast was a NIGHTMARE to say the least, no sausages bacon or black pudding and only 2 hash browns left at 10am no bread no coffee/tea until we asked them to bring it out and at no one time was all breakfast ready at the same time so if you wanted a full English you would of had to do it in three stages without a hot drink. So we didn't bother. I asked the manager why this was as one sweet young girl was running round alone trying to help everyone and he said it's because everyone came down at once. Surprised a hotel of that size isn't prepared when they know how many people are occupying the hotel all want breakfast at the same time which is usually the case. The hotel is lovely it self the food was gorgeous although small portions but alcohol is very overpriced it was £9 for a Malibu & Coke and a pint. Won't be staying again Collapse

This was a two night stay with a groupon voucher, we had what was called an executive room ( not sure what standard was) it was comfy enough, just a little basic. The hotel is an old building but the bedroom has been modernised as had the bathroom. We had a king size bed which was comfy with white linen's, good towels and toiletries in the bathroom. The bedroom, dining room and bar area were warm but corridors a little chilly. Our first night included a two course meal with wine which was of good quality but was missing veg with all main dishes, so we decided to have the extra course, which on reading the menu was an extra £3. The breakfast first morning was excellent apart from only scrambled egg as they had run out of eggs, the tea and coffee was only warm not hot. We were going to eat out in Ilkley the second night but saw the chef on return to the hotel who took note of the night before and said we should have had veg etc with all meals, he asked for us to try the hotel restaurant again as it had been his day off, we agreed to do so, the meal was in a different league 3 * - 5* such a difference and told the chef so. The second mornings breakfast was also excellent with pots of hot tea and coffee. The staff in the hotel were all very pleasant and did their best. When we came to check out and pay our bill we were told that the first nights desert was not an extra £3 but £5 because we were on a groupon deal, it wasn't the money it was not being told about it at the time of ordering, so if you are on a deal be aware you will pay the extra. The bar prices were rather expensive in fact very !! Collapse

Just returned from a 2 night Groupon deal -- good value. Hotel very clean & full of charm. Our room ( 129 ) was an executive grade and very spacious, however, the towel rail didn.t work, the plug in the sink didn;t work and the hot water tap in the sink didn;t work!! I advised the front desk of these issues after the first night but it did not get fixed !!- no visit from the maintenance dept ( as far as I know !! ) The Receptionist said they had been told but I was not convinced.. Also, under the window , an air conditioner ran on & off all night which keep us awake. So dont ask for room 129 ! Sorry to keep moaning but the breakfast plates were cold, so the food soon went cold ( its not difficult to keep plates warm !!). Just details that need attention !! -- Collapse

Stayed here as a buy a gift voucher having not read any reviews and needing to stay somewhere close to Leeds. On arrival staff were excellent and friendly even helped us with train times to work out best way of getting to Leeds. Our voucher came with a free evening dinner which we weren't able to make use of but hotel happily swapped it for a lunchtime burger option. Facilities were good and if had stayed longer would have like to make use of free gym. Room was very pleasant and the bathroom was very modern and finished to a very high standard. Close to train station in Ilkley although we did not use, but not too far to drive to main city although Ilkley has all amenities you would need. Staff friendly on departure and overall a very pleasant hotel which I would happily visit again. Collapse
