This was once, obviously, a wonderful hotel but attention to detail, unfortunately, has now fallen by the wayside. Our first room on the second, annexed floor, via the lift then up a short precipitous flight of stairs was very small with little room to put our baggage. It had been decorated nicely but not completed as the woodwork on the door and window sills hadn't been done. It had lovely UPVC sash windows but unfortunately the view from them was of a rusty old fire escape. We found the bed extremely soft and requested a different mattress or room, but were told that the hotel was fully booked. Neither my partner, nor I, slept that night as we were so uncomfortable. After being shown five alternative rooms, the following morning, we found one, although lacking a telephone, that had a wonderfully comfortable bed. That was where we spent our second night. I'd like to thank the lady on reception who took the trouble to show us so much concern and changed our accommodation. We found the food was nicely presented and the staff friendly but overworked. Because of a wedding being catered for, the bar never seemed to have anyone behind it. Craiglands is positioned in a wonderfully strategic spot for walking on the moors or down into the town centre and because of this and the conscientious staff, we would stay again. Collapse

We used our buyagift.com voucher and telephoned the hotel directly two weeks in advance to book our two night get away. We telephoned on the Friday (two weeks before our stay) to book, but were told by the Receptionist she had just got back from holiday, and a new system was in place which she was unsure how to work it, and to call back on the Saturday. We did this and talked to another Receptionist who took the bookings and also a supplement for a room upgrade. We also booked an evening meal in the Bistro for the first night, a table for 6 as we were entertaining family, who were local to the area. However, on arrival we were told there was no reservation except for the dinner! We were further told the use of vouchers did not include for a weekend! The Receptionist was quite terse, but after we explained we had just driven up from Essex, she agreed to book us in and said she would deal with the voucher company. At this point we still don’t think she believed us, albeit we did state what had happened at the booking stage and a sudden twinkle in her eye, suggested to us, she did remember, but didn’t say anything. We were offered a free upgrade, but this was cancelled out by having to pay a supplement for using the voucher at the weekend! Our guests came and we ate in the Bistro, not the best meal we’ve had, food was in our opinion well overcooked and it took a while to be served each course, and it wasn’t that busy. We later found out the bar menu was better so we should have stuck to that! The bedroom was large and clean and had pretty much what you would expect. However, it was cold so we turned up the radiator but it didn’t really heat up. We did have a good night sleep, but in the morning when we went for our showers, the water was cold. We did complain and the Receptionist mad a note to have it checked. So, to Saturday night, we had eaten out and returned to the hotel, around 10pm only to find a wedding taking place (which we hadn't been warned about) and there were cars parked all over, even in the entry road to the car park. We did manage to grab what looked like the last place, but having had to squeeze up the road into the car park, the car was scratched by branches from the adjacent shrubs! When the wedding broke up, the cars started up and people were revving their engines, this woke us up, albeit the actual wedding and music didn’t. The next morning, we tried to shower but once again cold water! So, when we checked out we complained again. The Receptionist told that someone had been in a checked and there was nothing wrong. We assured her it wasn’t alright, then she stated it was probably sue to the old piping and that we should have left it a while to heat up. We did we left it running for 15 minutes and it was still cold. We also complained about the cold room, at this point the Receptionist told that everyone had complained it was too hot, so they had turned the boiler off? But surely no boiler, no heating and NO HOT WATER! There was no sympathetic apology or even a hint of understanding just a terse thank you and goodbye. I don’t know why people stay in jobs which they clearly hate, especially in a customer facing role as she has. Would we stay here again, well what do you think; a big fat NO! It's a real shame it could be a 5 star as the building itself is wonderful but it would take tens of thousands of pounds to get there! Collapse

Very pleasant occasion. Plenty of hot tea, tasty cakes and scone. Sandwich fillings not very inspired, especially the veggie one (plain tomato and cucumber) but overall a good afternoon. Within walking distance of ilkley.

Groupon Stay for 2 at last minute. I had wanted to go to Ilkley for a while so this was ideal on Cow Pasture Road. Check in was easy, the lady on the reception was approachable, friendly. Our room was on the 2nd floor, took the lift. The room was large, warm & inviting. We had prior to our visit arranged to have the evening meal, breakfast. Meal was fine, adequate portions. In the morning breakfast was good, lots of choice. We enjoyed our stay. Collapse
