Really quite average, certainly not somewhere you would go for a special occasion but handy for visiting Chelmsford or I could see for weddings or functions. The main thing that was noted was the lack of a lift to the second floor which meant a really very strange walk through corridors and up and down mini flights of stairs which was both time consuming and disjointed. I’ve never seen anything so strange in terms of layout. The walls were paper thin and we got to enjoy the couple next door having a loud argument at 7.30am and could hear anyone and everyone who walked past. The room seemed nice but the bathroom was pretty dated and had a nice ball of dust/hair rolling around when we arrived. The shower mat was discoloured and it just didn’t feel very clean. On the upside the breakfast was nice and the receptionists were friendly and helpful. Nothing bad about it but a bolt hole and nothing more. Collapse

We stayed for three nights as we were attending a wedding we added a couple of extra nights on. The hotel was convenient for the station and the city centre. Our room was a good size and a selection of teas, coffee and hot chocolate were provided. The staff were very helpful with directions and advice. The breakfast choice was very impressive and the dining room had a lovely atmosphere especially the conservatory. The staff had a good knowledge of the requirements of a gluten free diet so I felt less anxious. Collapse

I stayed here with there my partner for 3 nights , I am literally on my way home now with a 7 hour drive ahead . I came for some spinal surgery at the Nuffield in Brentwood . I called ahead before booking to ask few questions as I have disability for eg lifts and car park situation and explained I would be having surgery .. from the minute we step foot in the door the service was excellent. Free upgrade to premium room that we were so greatly for . We had shower I could get into as I can’t get in the bath but that was also available for my partner . We loved the free snacks in our room every day and fresh water ,beds made and a voucher for 20 percent of our food for one evening . They couldn’t have done enough for me and my partner . The reception staff were very pleasant and the people who served us at the bar and restaurant were all so lovely . I’ve stayed in a few places now with only recently being diagnosed with a disability and I’m only 32 so it’s hard for me to come to terms with and I get embarrassed. But this hotel made me feel so at ease and that I was an actually person unlike previous places I have stayed , I will be returning to this hotel for probably the next 2 years as I have more operations to come . And I’m glad I found somewhere so good ! I would highly recommend this place .. and the food was excellent also ! Thanks for a lovely stay see you again in 4 weeks :) Danielle & Daniel Collapse

Enjoyed a one night stay here. Double room was a little small but the large and modern bathroom made up for this. Comfy bed and very good selection of hot drinks in room. The shower was lovely. Enjoyed a very tasty buffet breakfast which was almost faultless aside from there not being a runny egg in sight! Staff were excellent and very polite and accommodating. Collapse
Walls so thin, you can hear other people snoring and taking a bath.

Stayed 1 night as my Husband was joining his friends in town for a curry. Thought I would go with him and have my breakfast cooked for me and chill out as we are usually up early at home. During the evening as the walls are so thin I could hear a person in the room next to ours snoring. Where our bed was situated it backed onto the next door rooms bathroom. So you could hear the toilet flushing. Also every time someone walked by you could hear the conversation quite clearly. Thinking I was going to rise later than normal I was woken by what I originally thought was a truck ticking over to find it was the next room filling the bath. It sounded like the ceiling was filling with water and it would coming crashing down on us, and I am not exaggerating. By now its 7.25am and the extra sleep was not happening. My husband meets his friends once a year for this meal and as he got in very late he was very tired like myself. I also had another couple of issues, the TV overhangs the bathroom walk through and is dangerous and needs dealing with, and the bed is on a wood floor and constantly moves. When you roll over or sit on the bed it shoots across the room. We asked to speak to the Manager and got a very nice Duty Manager as she had to check out each time our complaint issues and our agreement of refund. We paid initially £103 pounds and was offered for a very poor nights sleep £20 refund and an upgrade next time. Next time, no way. We finally got £50 refunded which I pushed for as I said I am not moving until I get 50% refund. This was checked with the Manager whom quite frankly should have dealt with us anyway then the Duty Manager wouldn't have needed to check things out with him each time. Bit embarrassing for The Duty Manager whom should have the power to deal and agree the situation on there own merit. This makes me think the hotel is profit concentrated rather than customer focused. But I am sure the Manager will have comments on that one. We again on leaving were offered an upgrade for our next visit. No way would we be staying here again. I knew where the Hotel was situated and that its just off a very busy road that had over Ten Blue Light Ambulances go by as a hospital is near. I am a very seasoned traveller around the world and whilst you have different ratings over the world this is not a Four Star Hotel in my opinion. Four star hotels should not have so thin walls and safety issues. The hotel is very tired in places, the staff were pleasant, and the breakfast was acceptable but I am staying elsewhere next time we visit Chelmsford. Relaxing it wasn't. Collapse
