Perfect hotel for couples

Had a wonderful time here. Staff were very friendly and all food and drink we had was lovely. Highly recommend and will certainly return to this hotel! A small taxi ride to the port or into Palma nova is ideal for a meal or drinks out in the evening!

I arrived quite pleasantly surprised at how smart this hotel looked, despite the steep streets all around it in my attempt to find it on foot. The reception was clean and bright and airy with the pleasing low sound of ambient music; even the air itself was perfumed by a device that discretely emitted perfumed vapor. I was efficiently dealt with by reception and was in my room within minutes; on the ground floor facing a plant covered retaining wall to the street. Room 124 was clean bright and acceptable. Its bathroom was just about useable but ok. I went half board and so I was soon attending my first evening meal. Considering there are a limited number of guests staying at this hotel, the food on offer was reasonable with a fair choice of dishes. My first nights' sleep was terrific, on a memory foam mattress and no outside noise; quite unusual for a holiday in Majorca and I should know, I've been here 14times and stayed in over 20 hotels around this enchanted island. However, things came to a thundering crash at Gosta Portals on my second day. Whilst I was attending my evening meal, between 19:30 and 20:00, my room was accessed and £1050 worth of my belongings were taken. At first, I thought it was just my mobile phone that was stolen. I reported the matter to reception, who had no ounce of concern. I returned to my room and gradually realized other items had also been taken: a brand new Canon camera, Phillips Architect shaver, Seiko watch, a jacket and a backpack; probably used by the thief to stash his loot in. Again I reported this to reception and asked for the Police. reception dismissed this request, saying the Police would not come to the hotel and that I would have to take a taxi to the police station in Magaluf. I have to warn you all to take out holiday insurance if staying at this hotel, there are not enough CCTV cameras to protect you. None in the corridors to your room and none outside the rooms to cover the access points. It was as if the hotel just did not want to be subjected to any responsibility whatsoever. I stayed for a further eight nights after I insisted that I was given a different room, which I was granted, on the top floor, still facing the street. Aside from the room theft, my stay at Costa Portals was enjoyable and I would stay again at a later date. I also warn you of what to do in the event of a theft from your room. The Police will not help you without an IME number to your stolen phone nor will they help you without your passport, so take it with you when reporting a crime. You would think the hotel would have given this advice wouldn't you, but no they didn't. I believe I could have nabbed that thief, I had my suspicions about persons very close to my room who had been acting suspiciously on the first and second day. It was as if the hotel favored the thief and not he guest. I did not let my loss spoil the rest of the week and I was soon out on my adventures, I like walking. One hour to Palma Cathedral but here are buses running regularly to Placa Espanya, the main area for buses and trains to everywhere; you can even get the train to Soller from here. I managed to get to Alcudia by public transport, quite cheaply and quickly, with enough time to have a great day out and get back to Costa Portal for an evening meal. I even got the bus to Port Soller, bus 210 from Placa Espanya underground bus station, then walked over the mountains on footpath GR221, from Port Soller to Deia, a comfortable three-hour walk, where I returned to Palma on bus 210. Once off bus 210 at Palma, bus 104, just a step away, will bring you back to Portals Nous. It's a great day out, so gorgeous, I did it the following day. Collapse

On arrival I was greeted with the warmest smile from the nice young lady on reception called Irene'! I'd previously seen pictures of the reception area on trip advisor but was impressed to see that many things had changed! A full size hand carved Harley Davidson motorcycle must have been their latest addition to the decor ! After checking in I headed to my room ! Wow! They had also gave these a refurb too! Modern , Clean and most of all Comfortable! More than happy with my room I wanted to explore the rest of the hotel! I soon noticed that the rest of the hotel had also had a make over ! I soon had my shorts and headed down to the beach ! The sea down there looked so welcoming! And infact felt quite warm for mid April! Returning from the beach wasn't really suitable for anyone with walking difficulties! Very steep! That's the only downside I could think of worth noting! The food was good/brill, and all the staff from the cleaners, bar staff , and even the Chefs really worked well as a team and really went out of their way to ensure you have a wonderful day! When talking to other guests I found most had previously stayed in this hotel before and returned year after year ! And I dare say that I'd be a returning guest too! This is a place where you can simply relax and rerun home feeling reborn! Thanks all for a wonderful holiday Collapse
Great location and staff. Poor build quality and management.

This place has wasted a great potential as location is great with a secluded beach nearby, restaurants and a supermarket in close proximity. Quiet in terms of surroundings. Nice and helpful staff is doing their best and serving rich breakfests and OK dinners. (Perhaps the cleaning ladies could take more time in cleaning each room, as they are rushing a lot. For no obvious reason, as you can later see them chatting away their time in the lobby.) Bus stop close by and plenty space to park a rental car. Close proximity to Palma, still very quiet and close to a very luxurious yacht port (with a larger beach and a beach bar). Unfortunately it seems the management decided to make some savings on the recent renovation work. Very poor craftmanship and materials have been used. Hotel floors of cheap wooden panels make this hotel very acoustic. Whatever your neighbours are doing at any time of the day and night - you are almost part of it - if you know what I mean. The hotel randomly charges for beach towels in some rooms, while in others they are free. This "squeeze every penny out" policy includes charging for 1 extra hour of keeping your room despite the hotel being half empty. WiFi is simply horrible. Even downloading e-mails takes ages. It's, a small detail, but adds up to the overall impression, that management is saving money on every little detail, without this being reflected in the price you are getting. If this is not your last possibility, then avoid as there are probably better alternatives nearby. Collapse
