I struggled for a long time, trying to decide how many stars to give the Corinthia. In the end, I decided to give it 5 stars, and to qualify the review with my comments below. From the outset, our visit was plagued with problems. These were reported to various managers and were addressed during our stay, although not entirely resolved. The main problems are outlined below, but these are not the only shortcomings which befell us. We were a group of 9, split across 4 rooms. The hotel had not recorded my request (made directly to the hotel some 3 months earlier) for an outside room on a high floor and instead gave us an interior room on the 3rd floor, looking into the atrium. This meant, even with the windows open, we had no source of fresh air. A request to change rooms was denied on the grounds the hotel was fully booked and no other rooms were available. A few minutes later, two of our friends had a problem with the plumbing in their room. Their request to change rooms was granted, leaving me feeling I had perhaps not been told the truth just a few minutes earlier. That night we were woken at 4 a.m. by a cacophony outside our windows. The hotel had chosen this time to clean the floors with a high-powered industrial cleaner. I called the front desk to complain, then filmed the source of the noise and provided a copy to the manager the following morning. He was aghast to see it and, to his credit, reported back to me later that day that he would take action against the cleaning contractor. It later transpired that this is apparently a regular occurrence in the hotel. On the second night, we were again woken in the middle of the night, at 3 a.m., this time by a combination of other guests singing loudly in French, and hotel staff generally banging around in the lobby. Our friends in a different part of the hotel reported they had also been kept awake by a raucous party. When they called to complain, they were informed they would have to put up with it until 2 a.m. These incidents were also reported. A third pair of friends were also kept awake on both nights by loud noise. On the third night several of us were again woken in the early hours, by noise caused by staff stacking furniture in the lobby. A call to the front desk resulted in a slight reduction in noise, but not a cessation. All in all, the effect on each of the three nights was not unlike trying to sleep in a noisy railway station and is absolutely, completely and totally unacceptable for a hotel which presents itself as the epitome of comfort and service. The problem stems partly from the architecture of the building, which is undeniably grand, and partly from the attitude of the overnight staff who do not seem to realise just how disruptive the noise is. They do nothing to maintain a peaceful atmosphere during late hours, and only react when someone takes the trouble to complain. So, why 5 stars? Firstly, because the managers I spoke to did seem to take the problems seriously, and they went to great lengths to try and apologise to all 9 of us. The fact remains that this DID have a detrimental effect on our holiday - having been disturbed since late, we were overtired the following days, and less able to enjoy ourselves to the full. But, as I have said, the managers went out of their way to try and make amends, and for that they deserve to be commended. I hope very much they take our comments and observations on board, because this hotel truly has the potential for a deserved return to its former glory. As things stand, frankly, it could go either way and if they don’t address the noise issues, I fear they will allow standards to slip, to the point where their main market will comprise stag and hen parties from all over the EU. A final note on the staff - all the people we dealt with directly were courteous, impeccably smart and helpful. Without a doubt, they are this hotel’s greatest asset. However, given the level of discontent in our group - as well as on the part of other guests who were complaining about the same issues as me at the same time as me - I would not be surprised if there is concern behind the scenes that so many people feel it necessary to complain. After the second night of noise, I almost felt sorry for the manager dealing with these unhappy guests.... So, five stars - for now. This hotel is comfortable, is in a great location, and the staff are smart and attentive, although the night shift could do with some training in keeping the noise down. Based on our experience, if you don’t mind a LOT of late-night noise, then by all means stay here - you will love it. But if you prefer to sleep peacefully, I suggest you check reviews written after mine, to see if the noise issue has been addressed. If other people are still writing about it, then you should stay somewhere else. Collapse

It is 100% worth it to book and get access to the Executive Club and Spa - this includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, and happy hour. All of these things include drinks. We were there during Christmas and it was really lovely. Collapse

We stayed for four nights and were very impressed. The service was impeccable, the staff both knowledgeable and personable. Rooms were well appointed and the facilities were superb. The Caviar and Bull is a wonderful onsite restaurant, and we enjoyed excellent after-dinner cocktails in the lovely bar. The only downside is that it is located about a 20 minute walk from the St Stephen's Square and river front areas. Collapse

Having just returned, I am very surprised by the fantastic reviews for this hotel. The bedroom was extremely small and the bed definitely not a superior double, just your average run of the mill double, plus it was saggy and uncomfortable. The temperature of the room was unbearable and the controls wouldn't go lower than 18. The room looked out over the restaurant atrium so it was impossible to open a window for fresh air. After complaining the mattress was changed but the temperature remained hot. The entrance of the hotel is splendid and beautifully decorated for xmas, as are all the public rooms. The hotel is located, for me, too far from the river and the walk back in the dark is a bit, what shall I say, Wireesque, I was asked twice if I wanted coke and I don't think they meant the fizzy type. The hotel spa is OK, although the steam room is very smelly and the hot tubs a little cool. To conclude, a hotel with 3 star accommodation and aspirations to be 5 star. The staff however, were always extremely courteous and informative. Collapse
