My wife and I booked a two night stay last weekend in order that we could take part in a cycle sportive. On arrival at the hotel it looked quite nice and the reception area was impressive. First off we had to queue for over 30 minutes to check in and whilst in the queue noticed that there were many hen parties in the lobby. As usual for us we walked up the stairs to our room not using the lift and it was clear that the stairwell had not been cleaned for weeks - it was extremely dirty. The hotel room was situated in a long corridor with very many rooms leading off much like a budget hotel and not what we were expecting given the price we had paid. The room was adequate if a little dated and the staff quickly attended to converting it into a double as we had requested from a twin which was pleasing. Very noisy in the corridor at night. We decided to eat out after being told we could not reserve a table in the dining room. We also discovered that the dining room shared an open space with the bar which had numerous televisions blaring out from all sides. It was far too noisy to enjoy a meal. As we were starting our cycle sportive very early on the Sunday I asked if it would be possible to receive a refund for the breakfast that we were unable to make use of, but this was declined. Overall a disappointing stay and a hotel that we will not be returning to. It was interesting to note that when I checked out on the Monday I was not asked if I we had enjoyed our stay - significant?? Collapse

This was a very busy hotel that had a lot to offer. There is large function rooms, buffet breakfast, gym and pool, restaurant and bar. It is a cheap taxi ride to town. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean.

Very nice hotel

Had a very pleasant stay here. The room was very nice, clean & the bed was very comfortable. Despite the hotel being packed with families it was very quiet at night. Just a couple of gripes; the 3.30 check in and the teapots for 2 are a bit small.

Just back from a 2 Night Stay at The Connacht Hotel. We booked a 2 Nights B&B Package , No evening meal was included. Upon arrival, we got a blank stare at reception and a "hello"(a girl who was training on reception) which was disappointing as I have stayed in this Hotel many times in the past and always got a friendly welcome and a smile. We asked if we could include 2 Evening Meals in the package and that wasn't a problem (until we actually went to the restaurant). We were given Room 3023 located in B Wing (the oldest part of the Hotel) , It was nicely decorated and looked like it had been refurbished recently. The Room was well equipped with extra things that you would need like toiletries/safe/tea and coffee facilities etc... I do think though, that the bathroom could have been cleaner as there were yellow stains under the taps and in the bath and just the general bathroom area could be cleaner and done up as it was old fashioned. Free Wi-Fi throughout the Hotel and very fast which was excellent. The Leisure Centre staff were very friendly and the facilities were excellent and clean. Housekeeping staff were also friendly. We ate in the bar for lunch twice during our stay here and the Bar Staff during lunch were excellent, efficient and could not do more for you, I can't remember the gentleman's name that served us but he had ginger hair with glasses and he was incredible. Breakfast was self-service which was grand, plenty of selection on the first morning but this morning it could have been better as nothing seemed to have been restocked!. I have to say our only negative experience (for the first time ever in this hotel) was the restaurant staff and the service... Dinner in the Reubens Restaurant is served up until 09:30PM - we went down at 08:40PM roughly, and it was relatively quiet, on our first night there, The Menu had very little selection and we were waiting for 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive (only 3 tables were taken up), the staff seemed disinterested in us and kept busy with setting tables for the next day instead if serving the guests, we ordered dessert and we were left waiting for 20 minutes, we brought it to the attention of one waitress who was very abrupt when we politely asked about our desserts and she replied with "Well you didn't order it off me" (so it's not your worry is not?) I was shocked at that response and it was highly unprofessional, We were given our desserts eventually (under duress) and it felt like we were being rushed - we were the only ones there since we went down a little later than other guests... The next evening, we also ate in the restaurant and we were given a better Menu with lots of selection, again though, the service was very slow and we were left waiting at least 15 mins again for our drinks to arrive, however our meals arrived on time that night at least and there were more guests in the restaurant, The abrupt waitress that we experienced actually apologised to us on the waiting of our desserts which I was happy with and also said that she wasn't sure about our table as the manager never mentioned us to her. THEN to pay for dinner there and then, we were told that we could pay at the bar and again, there was confusion and one member of the bar staff reported the problem to reception - we ended up having to solve the problem ourselves at reception in the end. - Highly unprofessional receptionist that evening too who was reading the newspaper with not a care in the world - she rang up the bar in front of us to report the problem and said "the guy is here with problem" rather than "MR()" Checking out this morning, we were told that we had to pay an extra 55 Euro which was not the case, only we explained the situation we would have been overcharged, before we left the desk we said thank you WE DID and the receptionist just said "grand" - safe journey sir, thank you for staying with us (would have been nice) Overall, I was a little Disappointed at the service and the lack of communication between staff as there is constant confusion. I would recommend this hotel usually, but for service and professionalism - it's not the hotel... Collapse

Fantastic visit! Very clean but busy, has over 300 rooms and holds over 1000 people so never quiet in reception! No noise at night though, very good leisure centre, breakfast was busy with queues but worth it, would recommend staying here!
