Visited the restaurant at this hotel with friends. Food was passable but service terrible. Felt like our presence was inconveniencing the staff who couldn't have been more uninterested if they tried. Orders came at different times so some food cold by the time we ate. There is much better out there for the same price point. I would give it a miss. Collapse

Arrived and the table wasn't ready. Took two requests to get a glass of water at which point two showed up. Prosecco wasn't topped up regularly. Toast arrived cold and with no butter. Service useless.

Worst experience with staff who ignored our top up request for the prosecco when it should have been free flowing they were slow with service and said no more prosecco as we were over the hour time frame. Much better places to visit food average staff could do with going on a training course on basics in working with the public as we are not a difficult bunch. Manager grunted when we asked for drink why have an offer when you don't follow it through! Collapse

I found it really difficult to find somewhere for an overnight stay in London that was a cut above basic chains, included breakfast & wasn't extortionate . I'm all for slightly unusual places/rooms and do this looked to fit the bill Some really positive points: Beautiful building, full of character including the old fashioned lift. We arrived super early & were part checked in & could leave our luggage while we went out for the day All of the staff seemed eager to please Lovely, individual room (room 46 on top floor) - we requested a high floor and we were really pleased with the room Super comfy bed Bath, as well as shower (important to us as we live on a narrowboat & so only have a shower, and so a bath has become a luxury item!) Delicious breakfast - hubby had full English & I had American pancakes, and that were happy to add bacon on the side. Nice coffee with breakfast Things that could be improved : We weren't given any info about breakfast times, check out times etc. This may be have been because we checked in, in two stages but this room wasn't available in the room either The room was lovely but got the feeling that the cleaning wasn't tip top. The bedside table was sticky with ring marks; these looked like they would need a bit if effort to get rid off. The bath panel was grimy with dirt & dust built up. We did mention the bedside table on our way out in the evening & received an apology but it was still just as sticky when we returned. It took a good deal of checking around to find the kettle etc. Again, no info re this in room brochure. No socket to plug the hairdryer into anywhere near a mirror. I'm totally happy with the quirks of a room with history, but if sockets are a rarity, or can't be placed handily, maybe having a hairdryer with a long cable would be good. I haven't blow dried my hair without a mirror since Guide camp! I don't expect to have to do it on a 4 star hotel. There was a little table, ideal to put tea & coffee on but nowhere practical to plug the kettle in, so had to put it on the floor. This wasn't particularly stable & it fell over, spilling water. Fortunately the water was still cold. I'm no health & safety freak but with boiling water, that would not be good. We were presented with a menu at breakfast but no explanation of what we could order so we had to ask. We had full English included in our booking which was listed as a separate item, so it wasn't clear that we could also have items such as cereal, pastries, toast etc. It was nice to have table service, but having to ask for each item separately made us feel a bit greedy! It it had just been explained properly, that would have helped. We paid £180 for our overnight stay. The area is lovely & very handy for bus, tube & narrowboat travel. Would we stay again? Possibly. A bit more communication would be the key to sorting minor niggles. Collapse
