The Coldra Court Hotel was recently a Hilton Hotel, now part of the Celtic Manor Hotel. The facilities were very good. The rooms and bathrooms were comfortable and adequate but perhaps need some updating over time. The Seasons Restaurant was very good with a varied choice on the menu. All the staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly. There was a courtesy minibus up to the Celtic Manor Hotel. We would definitely recommend the Coldra Court Hotel as it was very good value for a weekend break. Collapse

I used to visit here a few years ago. What a calamity. Seems to have gone "package" big style. Queues of coaches in the drive, Lobby jammed with large groups, Multiple Reception desk queues many people long, screaming kids playing hide and seek around the tables. What a bear garden. And the food! Oh dear the food! Snack for two, coffees for four £70 +, holy cripes. The leak and potato soup tasted neither of leak nor potato. Actually had no taste at all, the Chicken Caesar had gone off bits of lettuce and giant slices of rubbery chicken, also tasteless. Finally the burger sandwich. Inedible. What a let down. Wished I had arranged to go somewhere else and won't be back. Ugh! Collapse

We as two couples had a 2 night stay in late March and were very disappointed in many aspects. 1. My wife and her friend arrived ahead of us who were cycling to the Celtic from Newbury (104miles). They were booked in for a spa treatments and as with other reviewers were caught out by the Parking nightmare namely finding the car park then having to wait for the shuttle bus. 2. At check in they were told we had rooms overlooking the Golf course...we are not sure when the M4 Motorway was last deemed to be a Golf Course! They also requested assistance with bags to our room as the lift was not working. This was arranged but never happened. I and my friend finally arrived on our bikes and had to carry the bags to the room which was a fair distance! Minor detail was also no bike racks in the resort!!! 3. We booked anevening meal in the CEN restaurant and here our friends were served one wrong starter which was changed after we complained and two wrong main courses. The waiter offered to change these but we were so hungry (remember the cycle ride?) we just accepted it. 4. Breakfast was good apart from the service staff would not clear dirty plates so we accumulated them on the table!!!! 5. Saturday evening we ate in the Olive restaurant with a Spanish themed buffet which was excellent and the service provided by a young waitress on her first night of work was very good and put the Cen staff to shame the night before! However when we booked our table and asked about the other Restaurant we were told by the lady in a very snooty way that it was fine dining indirectly suggesting it was above us. Shame the lady doesn't understand basic customer (never prejudge your customer!). 6. However the Celtics final and damming failure was the checkout - we checked out with the bills being split between our two rooms all appears well until our credit card bill arrived this week and we find we have been charged our friends bill twice and they had also been charged for so we were overcharged by a mere £900!! Whats more they managed this because they took the money from the cards we used to book but on check out did not request either signature or PIN to be used. We have written to them to request the refund and point out our other "observations" as above. Overall a poor experience and we will not be going back. If you go be prepared to pay for parking which is madness given you can only get to the Hotel by car!! Collapse

After years of living locally to the Celtic Manor and hearing such wonderful reviews I was excited when my husband purchased me a Spa treatment for my Birthday at the resort, I was looking forward to a relaxing day at the resort. Firstly I made my first contact with the Hotel on 11th April via the email address given on the voucher, 3 days later, I received a message back saying my message had been undeliverable. I tried contact via telephone and found lines either busy or not being answered. As a last resort I contacted the resort via Facebook, I received a reply and told to pass my contact details via messeneger so reservations could contact me. I did this and after waiting three days, had still not received contact from the Hotel, so contacted reservations again. I got through and asked for a booking on fri 28 or sun 30 the lady booked me in and said if i cancelled this I would lose the voucher, no other information was given to me over the phone. On arrival at the resort I found the car park system confusing with not very clear signs and work vehicles everywhere. I appreciate that work has to be done on hotels but it was slightly chaotic. On arrival at the Hotel, I noticed a sign on the Reception that the Forum Health Club Pool and poolside facilities were closed for essential maintenance, I had not been informed of this when I booked the date and so obviously I was now unable to have the relaxing time that I had planned. On arrival at the Spa the girls on reception whilst very professional looked very uninterested. I booked in and was told "your with a male therapist but they will have told you that whehn you booked". This was not the case and was the first time I was aware of this. Whilst I had no issue with this, some females may well have felt uncomfortable at arricing and hearing this. The spa treatment I received was excellent and the therapist again excellent I have no issues with the treatment or the therapist. The treatment was slightly spoiled for me by the noise of the pool maintenance and the constant sound of running/flowing water! and the knowing that I couldnt stay after the treatment as I had planned. It was literally treatment over, glass of water, change, car park! My husband had paid for this voucher expecting me to have a 5* experience and a relaxing few hours at the resort what I actually got was hassle to book it, no prior information regarding my visit, not informed facilities would not be available, was not informed that i was being seen by a male therapist, was unable to have the relaxing day I planned for and so you could say a very expensive hour!!! Very disappointed at what should be Newports if not Wales' finest resort!! Collapse

Really great stay, plenty to do and good service. In general hotel seemed busy but it wasn't a problem. Took advantage of the upgrade, at check in, to a signature room on the sixth floor, definitely worth the money. Lovely room, great space, checked in early, wine, chocolates, everything we needed. Only thing I would change is room location, we were on the corridor of the lounge and restaurant, which meant increased traffic/ nose of people up to 11pm, steak smell from restaurant and open doors to corridor, which meant you could clearly hear the evening entertainment in our room. Not a major problem, but next time I would request not to be in that corridor (middle one, there are 3 on the 6th floor). Great spa facilities, visited both days. Visited the cellar bar in the Manor House (stupidly before happy hour, it was dead and bar menu is very limited), Merlin bar, signature bar, olive tree restaurant and breakfast at steak on six. Can't say the Olive tree restaurant was that good, lots of choice but didn't feel it went together, slow service and not much atmosphere. Was included in booking price, definitely wouldn't pay separately to eat there. Breakfast was great, lovely location (on sixth) lots of choice, not over busy, great service. Good wifi access throughout. Used the instant text/ message service to find out some info about service, thought this was great information resource and I didn't need to leave my room! We didn't pay to park at the main hotel (£15 overnight) we parked at the Manor House and got the minibus to the hotel, which arrived in the car park just as we were locking the car. On leaving we were told the minibus didn't go to the car park and we needed to walk to the Manor House. Not a long distance just a pain because it was raining, we got soaked and this wasn't the case the previous day! Overall great stay Collapse
