The Coldra Court Hotel was recently a Hilton Hotel, now part of the Celtic Manor Hotel. The facilities were very good. The rooms and bathrooms were comfortable and adequate but perhaps need some updating over time. The Seasons Restaurant was very good with a varied choice on the menu. All the staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly. There was a courtesy minibus up to the Celtic Manor Hotel. We would definitely recommend the Coldra Court Hotel as it was very good value for a weekend break. Collapse

I’ve been to the Celtic Manor a few times over the past 7 years and having visited again this weekend, I must admit that the hotel is by far not what it used to be and not what I would expect of a 5* hotel, that is known to be one of the best in the area. Positives: - we had booked a signature room and therefore were given a nice bottle of red wine and chocolates - the bed was very comfy - food in olive tree was ok - staff in signature restaurant for breakfast were very nice - private check in on 6th floor Negatives: - considering this hotel has a 5* rating, is kind of in the middle of nowhere and has a lot of land around, I think it’s outrageous that they charge you to park your car (spending the night cost us around £250 - you would think you can get free parking for that) - parking in the underground car park for the night costs £15 and parking outside a bit away from the hotel costs £5 - on the day we arrived it took the house keeping nearly half an hour to deliver a pair of slippers for us to be able to go to the spa -we had booked three rooms: in one of the rooms there was a problem with the toilet and the other room was right by the signature bar so very noisy until late at night and again in the morning - it is a little bit of a struggle to find a lounger to sit on by the pool as there are not enough of them for the amount of people in there. It felt a little bit like being in a 2* hotel where people fight over their deck chairs. Lots of people just leave their towels on the loungers for hours and there is no none there to stop that from happening (the signs they put on the loungers are obviously not good enough to solve the problem!) - they seriously need to do some updating on their lifts - these must be the slowest lifts I’ve been in for ages - even though I booked this at least 5 weeks ago, we were unable to get a table in the olive tree before 8.45pm, which would have been fine if the staff hadn’t started to show us quite clearly from around 10.40 that they want us to leave by constantly trying to empty the glasses from our tables we hadn’t finished with -in the signature bar we had ordered two cocktails that were priced at £12.50 on the menu but were charged at £14.50 on the bill (the manager rectified the mistake but it was inconvenient and we had to wait around for this to be corrected) - on the actual bill we had posted through the door the next morning, we could see the money we had spent the previous night. We had spent just under £50 on drinks in the olive tree (with a service charge included) but then had another £49.17 added to that bill under “gratuity”! What a joke! I’m not even sure if there should be a service charge in a restaurant where you have to help yourself to the food, let alone a gratuity charge of nearly £50 when that was the total of the bill! We obviously insisted on this being taken off - breakfast on signature level was ok. Staff was very nice but they didn’t offer hash browns nor proper breakfast bacon, which probably both should be part of a full English in a 5* restaurant. As I’m a vegetarian, I would have also appreciated some sort of vegetarian alternative to the sausages etc Also the kept running out of stuff and didn’t keep filling those things up again (e.g the water melon) Even though I think overall this is still a nice place and I had a good time with friends, I think considering what they promise they need to up their game a little! I was slightly disappointed and don’t think they are as good as they used to be, which is a real shame! Collapse

The positives such as a convenient location, lovely staff and some pretty rooms in the old part are sadly let down by an attempt to squeeze extra money out of customers from what is an already overpriced hotel. Being charged £5 to park in a nearly empty car park without any prior warning is almost as bad as being told that having paid for breakfast doesn't include a cappuccino which will cost you nearly £4 extra. Whilst the old building has its bonuses, there is no lift access to the first floor and they did try to do building work at 1am. They did stop when asked but the fact that I list this as a positive says something about the attitude to the customer. Collapse

My self my partner and her son,his wife plus two children had lunch in this establishment. My starter was excellent-but my burger was `very poor`-in quality and taste. The youngest child opted for sausages and mash. The sausages-he could not eat-even though they `were cut-up for him`. When I tried them...`they were as tough as old boots`(as if they had been cooked the day before) plus; they were `sour & off Finally, `a hair` came with the dessert! To sum-up, a very nice place-just dont eat their!! N/B I wrote to the Manager and the owner- but, they are so arrogant- didnt even receive a reply. Hence, this review and advice. Collapse

Stayed back in June with a group of friends, and it was our first time staying here. We booked a dinner, bed and breakfast package, and stayed in one of the signature rooms, 6 of us in 3 rooms. Check in was great and the rooms were lovely. Would definitely recommend staying in the signature rooms, they were stylish and comfortable , and from what I have been told much, much nicer than the standard rooms. We made use of the Forum Spa which was nice, the spa and sauna/steam room in the ladies changing room was out of order which was disappointing. Had some drinks, which included a free glass of Prosecco in the Signature Lounge which was great, and then went to get ready for dinner. We has a 3 course meal at the Olive Tree Restaurant, which is buffet style, and it was here that we were extremely disappointed. We ordered wine and drinks for the table, and after our glasses were poured, the bottle was taken halfway across the restaurant, and placed in a wine cooler next to another table. Within about 2 minutes the diners at that table picked up the bottle and placed it on their table. I called a server to tell him what had happened and asked for the wine to be brought back to our table. He said that normally the wine was left in the coolers across the restaurant. I told him that we wanted the wine near our table as it looked highly likely someone else was going to drink it. He looked very displeased, but did eventually agree to bring it over to us. Then we went to choose our food. There was sufficient choice, but the quality of food was terrible and I have genuinely eaten better food in Harvester! We has chosen a range of food between us, none of which was good, particularly the salmon which was dry, and the meat balls were inedible. The desserts were ok, but again, no-where near the standard of food I would expect from a 5 star resort. As I have mentioned before, dinner was included as part of our package, but had it not been , I can honestly say we would have refused to pay the £39 per head charged for this 3 course dinner. Following our stay, I contacted the hotel to give them feedback, and subsequently received an email stating they had tried to contact me. I responded that I was on holiday at that time, but gave them the date I would be home, and would welcome a call from them then. I heard nothing, and have since sent 2 further emails to the Celtic Manor asking for contact. I must say that our breakfast the following morning was superb (served in Steak on Six). I would avoid the Olive Tree at all costs if staying here! Collapse
