The Coldra Court Hotel was recently a Hilton Hotel, now part of the Celtic Manor Hotel. The facilities were very good. The rooms and bathrooms were comfortable and adequate but perhaps need some updating over time. The Seasons Restaurant was very good with a varied choice on the menu. All the staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly. There was a courtesy minibus up to the Celtic Manor Hotel. We would definitely recommend the Coldra Court Hotel as it was very good value for a weekend break. Collapse

Wasn’t impressed at all to be honest. Lots of queuing from start to finish - I thought booking a certain time slot would prevent this from happening. Video to introduce the children to the visit was a huge marketing ploy and a nightmare to sit through with little ones. Not a good move Santa! Next was the ginger bread making - kids were freezing and icing to decorate the little man was frozen solid. Then letter writing to santa - in a room with plugs hanging from lamps - ready for a 2 year old to play with! Then we eventually got to see Santa (picking icicles from our noses!) he wasn’t particularly chatty and just wanted Mrs Clause to take the photos, hand us our mass produced Snow Man and encourage us to pay yet another £10 for a photo. Disappointed in the whole event to be fair. We’d booked afternoon tea after. Had to wait almost half hour to be sat, another half hour to be served and then felt like we were being rushed to finish. Really not an enjoyable experience, especially for the money. Be sticking to our local garden centre next year. Collapse

Well where do I start Took my grandchildren to visit Santa First part was finding Santa they were Showing a promotional video of all stuff available at the hotel kids don’t wanna see this .... Outside in a wooden shed with no heaters really The decorating of gingerbread men was so cold the icing was set you couldn’t spread it so the sweet wouldn’t stick. Now for the bit you’ve been waiting for if they spent as much time Interacting with the children as they did taking photos to sell they would be on to a winner... Santa was rubbish it was all to rushed to cold to much of a money spinner. The staff must be working in condition under the government guidelines But we still had the Reindeers to look forward to has we had taking carrots They e mailed me the night before we went but I didn’t read the e mail that the Reindeers were no longer on site. The happiest person working there was the bus driver taking you from the car park to the Resort. Don’t waste your money go way over rated Never would I come back Collapse

We stayed on Sunday the 3rd of December and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. This year we decided to take our little boy to visit Santa although he is far to young to understand. We proceeded down to the Christmas area to be met by a young lady who was very pleasant and she ushered us into a line ready to go to the next room to see elf Rebecca. This is where things went a bit South. The video of elf Rebecca was nothing but marketing for the hotel and was clearly not aimed at the children as They had no clue when to interact nor what was going on. The next room was the gingerbread men. This part was very fun but there was limited seating and some children were without a seat. The 2 girls looking after this area were more interested in having a personal conversation than actually interacting with the children. The next room was a letter to Santa which was a very small area where your also expected to queue for Santa. We waited in line to see Santa and as we proceeded to walk towards the door magically another door opened to which there was another Santa. Fair enough our child is of an age where he doesn't understand but to an older wiser child this would be devastating and lead to a lot of uncomfortable questions. Such as how come there are 2 Santa's etc. Very careless of the staff. No apology was given for this. Another concern is how cold the who area is for the children. There's no sign of heating which I feel is awful considering the price you pay. Whilst on our stay we visited the grill. The staff were exceptional. We were however disappointed to see the menu had changed which I know happens according to seasons and ingredients so can't be helped. We visit the Celtic manor several times a year and we've never been disappointed however this time the Christmas kingdom was a huge let down. I would like to thank all the staff who did make the stay enjoyable and would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New year. We look forward to returning to stay in 2018 Collapse

The hotel was beautiful, very well lit with lovely lights and a wonderful tree and train set in the foyer. It was disapointing that you had to walk past the gym to get to the ice rink and grotto. Well i say grotto, grotty would be a better word. When you put on a grotto you are dealling with childrens dreams, i expected so much more from a 5 star resort. If they gave this the same attention to detail as the golf it would be great. The first section saw the children watching a video looking for Santa, in fact is was a advert for the resort showing what they had to offer. They stated that Santa had hit the sherry and was asleep, “drunk santa not a good image for young children” the elves were boring and didnt want to be there. The second room was ok, made a ginger bread man. The third room was writing a letter to santa and posting it to him, what is the point in this they were seeing him in person. Sadly mother xmas was miserable and looked tired. Santa was behind a £9.99 door from b&q, obviously one of several their. The room was poorly dressed and Santa was sat on a cheap settee. He looked under weight and frail not what you expect santa to look like. His costume was cheap looking, he made a few crude comments to my 30 year old daughter such as “ sit on my knee, thats the only excitement santa gets this time of year” this was totally unappropiate. Sadly we will not return, it was obviously a money making machine. Celtic manor pride themselves on quality, they have really let themselves down here. They should take a look at disney and learn. The Celtic Manor is quite awkward to get to but worth it if you can navigate yourself around the roundabouts and entrance leading to the hotel. The hotel is lovely around Christmas as it's beautifully decorated. We went for the tea for two (or in my case tea for four). We were greeted and asked to wait in the seating area and then shown to the tea area which is situated in a lovely area overlooking the outside grounds. The service can be a bit too formal for my liking but the staff are great and tell you everything about the menu and the range of teas on offer. There's a good selection of teas, cakes and sandwiches which are really filling. The staff however will put any left overs into a box for you to take home. I would come again if I wanted to impress someone coming to Wales for the first time or just wanted to impress someone with a posh teatime treat but perhaps if I was eating with friends or family would go somewhere more homely and less formal.
