We stayed in a standard studio we were not expecting much after reading the reviews on here but were given a room in K Block. We were very impressed with our room we had two single beds, a kitchen and air con. The only down side was how far we had to travel with our bags to get to our room (it was up hill and no one to help). K block ended up being a great location for us, we were able to use the back gate exit so did not need to walk far for restaurants. The strip is about a 5 minute walk from this exit which is great for exploring but you could hear the noise from people walking back late at night. The actual hotel is massive we didn't even see half of it! The pool area was very nice and kept clean. Only a short walk to a lovely beach too. The room was also equipped with a hair dryer, iron and ironing board. Collapse
If you are expecting 4*, dont stay here.

We have just returned from a 10day all inclusive which is our main holiday. We paid a lot of money expecting it to be a luxurious 4* hotel. It would be lucky to get 2*. We had booked a standard room but that turned out to be a studio room. Our initial room was via patio doors on a shared balcony which opened straight onto the bed. Sorry 2 glorified camp beds. Only just enough room to walk around them. At the end of the "beds", there were 2 armchairs & a small table, which we had to put our luggage on as nowhere else to put it. On the other side of the "bed" were 2 stools & a breakfast bar. Adequate enough kitchen, had we needed it. The wardrobe was grubby & i wouldnt have wanted to hang my clothes in it. Having complained to the poor lady on reception who was having constant complaints from other guests, she advised that we could move rooms but not until the following day, which was acceptable. Our 2nd room much better but still a studio & grubby decor. The halls leading to/from the rooms were not inviting with broken tiles all over the place. Food - warm & repetitive. When we spoke to the restaurant director, he told us that Portugese people didnt eat their meals red hot as it is bad for their digestion. The gardens were well presented. The main pool had so many sunbeds around it to accommodate all the guests, were crammed together. There was a 2nd pool again crammed with sun beds, which were in need of being thrown away & replaced. Some of them were so dirty, i wouldnt have let my dog sleep on it, if i had one. There was a 2nd kiddies pool which was also filthy. The main Ocean bar was ok, the staff were friendly but we couldnt get Sangria unless we paid for it. There was supposed to be bowling green in this area but it was just an area covered in green baize which again, was in disrepair, but had the stage on part of it, seating & a huge bouncy castle. We took a look at the other MGM hotels nearby, which were also 4* & they were 4*. When i asked if we could use the facilities, restaurant at the other hotels, i was advised, only for the entertainment & anything else would have to be paid for. Praia D oura is the poor relation. We were very disappointed with this hotel for what we paid. The conversation i had with restaurant director, who had only been there a couple weeks told me that we had good quality towels & bed linen. Everything we complained about, he twisted it to put a positive view on it. Typical manager. Never mind the posh towels, get the place tidied up & serve Hot food. Collapse

Just got back from a 10 day stay at this hotel. 4 star it is not.... would be pushing it to rate it even 3 star. The apartments are very dated and not overly clean. The evening entertainment is 3rd rate and is held on the so called bowling green. The food is palatable but is not very warm and not a lot of choice. The 2 pools are ok but freezing cold but there are plenty of sunbeds some of which are falling apart though. The area is very hilly so not suitable for those who have any walking difficulties. Would not stay at this complex again but would certainly come back to the area. Collapse

First let me say that our apartment was what we expected.its a pity that we could not get into it till 17:00hr.the hotel really needs to change it system for allocating the rooms.we noticed several things that were below par,the children's pool was filthy ,a general lack of maintenance, power cables across the floors.the so called bowling green is a joke, this is located down at the ocean bar.the bowling green(lol)is an accident waiting to happen.not only is it not stuck down but blows about with the wind. As regards to the accident waiting to happen, there are power cables layed across the floor. The staff we thought were wonderful and you felt that they were trying to help. There is very limited things for children to do. Down at the ocean bar area there is a giant inflatable dragons head which was very popular with the children, its a pity that it seemed to be deflated every time the entertainment started. We felt that if it had been left inflated the young children would not have kept running onto the stage area. The food we found was what we knew it would be.The breakfast was very nice with not a bad selection, lunch was very good but the evening dinner was lacking in choice ,we had hoped for something like a roast at least once, roast potatoes etc but no. As regards to the all inclusive,I have never known a hotel to be so stingy. The time it starts and finishes was 12:00hr and seemed to end at 22:30hr.Dont expect any cocktails! At check out our wrist bands were cut off and we felt that this place had the feeling of that's it now ,you pay for everything you want till you depart.I don't know about you but all the other groups of hotels we have stayed at let you (if all inclusive)eat ,drink, etc till your collected. The evening entertainment by the staff was o.k but we didn't stay till the end most evenings as we had had enough.the staff you could see were trying very hard ,and credit to them for what they were trying to do but yet another area that needs money spent on it to give the hard working entertainers a better chance of showing off their ability.
